So unless we are 2km above the surface or higher you can't see POI's at all? Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

Having just updated i log in to find that half the ships at Daltons are stiil full price as are modules. This has been reported several times by numerous players since beta 4. Is this a case of FD not knowing how to fix it or not giving a damn ?

I think I also read that you were planning on having some rarer POI's the further away from inhabited space we were, is that still the plan?
It would give added incentive to explore in the hope of finding something rare or even unique out there which is something that is currently missing I feel.

There are things hidden out in the black.

Half the ships (at full price)? .. I haven't checked these prices myself but one (possible) reason is; 2.0 beta not so much being to test ships' integrity (that was 1.5) but to check Horizons' for bugs. You can test Horizons in a Sidewinder just as well? (Being able to test high end ships, is a perk for having made a lot of progress in the main game, and having lots of cash when the snapshot was taken for beta? This doesn't include me by the way, am testing in my regular Asp Explorer)

STILL can't use my X52 Pro and change fire groups on the SRV, or even have the data link scanner appear when set as primary fire in the primary group. Please can this be fixed, it's been 5 beta's and it's not worked! If anyone knows a workaround so I can use the joystick, I'd appreciate it.

You have to enable the "firing deploys hardpoints" option in your bindings at the old weapons section.
This way you can fire your datalink scanner if its bound to secondary fire. Changing Firegroups don't work, but the SRV only has this two options anyway...
This is the workaround. I'll hope for a fix till the release. I don't want to fly without safety switch...

Fire groups don't really exist on the SRV I think, but you can get around the data link not working by enabling "deploy hardpoints on firing" in the controls options.

You can see them at any height (depending on their size and whether they're detectable in flight) - it's the blue circle on the scanner that fades in and out.

I'm not sure why some people are upset by this. What this means is that you fly above 2k to "scout" the area out and you get a rough indication of where to look. The patch notes even say that the actual POI is mostly not central to the blue circle now implying that it is a rough guide.

So once you have a rough location you now have to fly down and actually look for it. If somehow you still can't see it with the naked eye from your ship, then land, pop an SRV out and use the SRV scanner. Sure this slows the process down a little, but we are given realistic options that make sense, so unless people are upset because they can't farm them as fast as they'd like then I don't see the problem.

I'll see how it works in practice tonight, but on paper it looks like a good change.

Thank you OxKing, I shall give that a try. I hope FD fix it for release *crosses fingers*

In regards to balancing this new way of seeing the POI (which should have been there from day 1 :p).

One balancing issue we now have is that it is far to easy to take out the skimmers since you'll see them from the air and can easily get rid of them with your ship before landing.

Two quick fixes:

1. Don't make it possible to target them with your ship...or at least make the gimbals unable to track them. (Won't do much, but it's something at least.)

2. Don't activate them until someone approaches with their SRV. It's not like Skimmers can take on ship anyway so they might as well hide until an SRV comes along.

Thanks for the change log, and of course for the great reactivity of the team !

One question though, any word on the matter of planetary dogfights against AI ships ?

Really looking forward to that kind of gameplay.

Hello Mr. Brookes,
i take some screenshots. Maybe i understand you wrong if you say the POI is visible at any height. But you mentioned the blue circle. Beneath 2000m it is transparent if this means invisible. May you or QA have a look on this?

At 2250m:

At 2090m:

I only used the thrusters to get down, as you can see on the coordinates.

Edit: I am fine with this if it should work this way. I'll try find this by eye or land on the border of the POI and drive in the direction of the inner circle. I've found a lot of Things this way. So no Problem for me.

Regards,
Michael

The actual POI on the ground is visible at any height, the blue circle is only visible on the scanner above 2000m.

Why do something fun and simple if you can make it complicated and unattractive.

It works as intend. unfortunately.

I was thinking about this a few days back and option 2 of them not spawning seemed the best option by far. Skimmers should be programmed with at least some AI which says "Oh, Anaconda? probably can't kill that...".

How about approaching it from the other side: let the Skimmer actively go into evasive mode, moving faster than ship weapon gimbals can follow. It needs not be impossible to hit them, just not more efficient than attacking them from the SRV.
