Horrendous mining experience on XB1

For me at the moment mining simply doesn’t work. At least 50% of the time I visit any type of RES I will not be able to leave.

If I engage FSD for either a jump or a super cruise the countdown timer counts down then the whole game freezes at the blue swirl bit. Only way out from there is to close the app from the XB1 dashboard.

Then I spend an hour or so trying to log on again with connection issues. When it finally connects I have the same problem of being stuck in the RES.

Maybe the 4th or 5th attempt the FSD will engage properly.

Even if I try to mine half the time the asteroid chunks don’t materialise, or my limpets get the “programming...” message without actually spawning (note the limpet count goes down but there is no limpet to be seen!)

None of this would be an issue (‘Don’t do mining’ I hear you say) except it’s the only way to get to Selene. Nice.

Finally I persevere with this garbage to get my 500t saying to myself “never again “ only to find I now need to face the RNG gods for 10t of Painite which for all I know could take me another 500t or more as it’s not available to buy.

Again forced into a broken broken game loop. What the hell.

Rant over.
Go over to your Xbox. Hold down the power switch till it turns off. Then unplug cable. Unplug your internet too. Then start everything up again. If have your Xbox set to “instant turn on” then change that to “power save” mode... That way your Xbox will completely shut down each time... I know it takes longer to start. But you will not experience the same annoying glitches the Xbox does now and then when it is on standby or slumber mode... I had the same issue with my Xbox x. But this fixed it.

So for a while I’ve not seen this until tonight. I am trapped in the vicinity of Titus Station in HIP 8396. I can go to supercruise but if I try to go to FSD jump the countdown stops at zero & whole game freezes.

I have power cycled, cache cleared, & board swapped all to no effect.

I’m on my fifth attempt now & decided to post this rather than throw the hotas through the tv.

It shouldn’t be this hard to just navigate the game.

You don't mention if you've restarted your router/modem for your Internet connection too.

I can't remember seeing anywhere what mode your using and if you've tried switching between Solo/Private Group/Open and whether that has any affect on your connection. Someone with better knowledge than I may be able to explain this better but.....ED uses a Peer to Peer architecture which means the heavy lifting to run the game is done by our XBoxes, the servers only provide points of reference for things like BGS/Mission board/Market Info etc and when in PG/Open we need to be able to connect to Other Players directly. So apart from the DNS setting discussed in a previous post there's another setting that can affect the game called NAT (Network Address Translation) and ED works best when this is set to 'Open' (or at least in my experience it does). The following reference is to the Microsoft Help Page that explains this in detail and how to check/set it.

https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/networking/nat-error-solution

If you're not already using 'Open' NAT then I would recommend you switch to using it, it may help.

N.B. As with any change make a note of what the current values are before you change anything so you can back it out if it all goes pear shaped.

p.s. Are you connecting to your router wirelessly ? - if so try a direct cable connection see if that improves the situation. In my household I've found this improves game performance when others are using the wireless connection to browse the web and particularly if they're streaming video contect from youTube / Netflix etc.

It may be an idea to review the DNS being used by your XBox, these have been recommended elsewhere on the forum

ProviderPrimary DNS ServerSecondary DNS Server
Google8.8.8.88.8.4.4
Cloudfare1.1.1.11.0.0.1
1st, I am glad you removed 127.0.0.1 from your DNS. That is the loopback adapter on all network cards. So essentually you were asking your XBOX to resolve DNS from itself which would fail then it would move to the next server. This would introduce unnecessary DNS delays.

Now, this also sounds like packet loss.

On a computer connected to your home network, open a command prompt.
Type ping 8.8.8.8 -t
let that run for about 30 second, the press ctrl-C.
I the statistics look at Packets: Send = x, Recieved = x, Lost = x, there should not be any Lost. If there is 1 or 2 maybe that is OK but 10 or more is bad.
Then look at round trip in mili-seconds. Average should not be over 100Ms if you have an average speed internet service.

If you see a lot of packet loss call you ISP. It could be your cable box, wiring, or something on their network.

I've made approximately 500m creds mining and not one credit has come from the res itself. I drop anywhere in the ring my heart desires and I get results. I wouldn't even bother in the RES's. You drop, you'll either get a pirate or a system security force ship...if a pirate scans and sees only limpets, he'll grumble but move on without firing on you.

I'm betting this is a connection issue and I'm also betting that you are using wifi to connect your XBox to your router. I made a thread about this earlier...for whatever reasons, XBox wifi is finicky. Even with the router in the same room, it would struggle to connect. Endless blue tunnels. Failure to communicate with ajudication servers, with matchmaking servers, with everything!

I switched to a wired connection and boom...never had a single issue again.

Your mileage may vary but it worked for me.

You’re right about WiFi and it is always a problem not just with ED, unfortunately for me a wired connection is not an option due to the location of phone sockets & routers etc etc.

Then I'm afraid the issue may never resolve itself. Going wired was the only thing that worked for me. Best of luck, CMDR.

Thargoid left the scene and game froze up, same for meeting a few friend on a moon, picking up or discovering loot in the SRV.
Those freezes really disturb the gameplay.

I got a really cheap (£5.65) 30m LAN cable from amazon, to do mine quality is poor I wouldn't want to use it on a Gbit network but it works as a 10/100 cable and does the job. Alternative would be powerline adapters if you can't trail the cable which convert your existing power socket cabling to carry the network signal ....but that's a little more expensive, might be worth a look.
