HOTAS Support

Per other controllers weight is a problem. Even with the best solid mount the light weight Playseat Challenge chair will have issues. There will be a weight limit. As an example the Thrustmaster Warthog is just too heavy for such a light chair. I mounted the Warthog joystick to the very solid center plate. A fast rotate to the stop and the whole chair moves with me in it (me weighing 165 lbs or 75 kg)!

I also planed to use the mounting plate in the first place. But I found this position not to be comfortable since they purely had steering wheels in mind when designing this. Also the Plate is really heavy ( and the chair tends to tip over to left when you "open" the seat for entry which is why they already added the extensible support to left side.

With the mount I designed the HOTAS is very close to the CG ( wich basically is you butt when seated ) therefore any reactive force or balance issues will be greatly reduced, even if the HOTAS is quit heavy.

Nontheless keeping this "cheap" is my primary goal, this should be fun for the common commander so I plan to stay below then total cost of 400€ (Seat, HOTAS, Rudder, so with the seat going for 200€ and HOTAs + Rudder like 160€ there is not much left, other HOTAS Systems will surely bust the bill because a Warthog alone is almost 400€ without rudder...

Designing and adapter for High End HOTAS on the other Hand is not a big deal ( much simpler then the one for the T.Flight ) because these are meant for being mounted in the first place. So if this is adding tot he total number sold it,'s sure on the list of things to do next. Might even be worth doing befor I go on with the electronics for the Cockpit.

Already postponed my other projects for this even while these are in the making for some years already and also quit close to the end. ( have a look if you are a Star Wars Nerd :) http://www.saber-sports.com or https://www.facebook.com/sabersports/?ref=bookmarks)

Doing a SimPit for PS4 is about really raising the bar of Sim Playing on Consoles since I believe there is quit a bunch of first generation Gamers around that, due to real world circumstances, can not afford the time & money that goes along with a high end PC but still want all the fun ( like me ).

Being able to have a fold away SimPit that allows serious gaming will allow to dive into Elite or such in then Family Living Room like your wife makes it a Gymn by onfolding her Hometrainer :)

So is it just me or is my perception right that there are a lot of "elderly" Space Flight Fans around here that face the same problem :) ( and YES it is totally OK to buy Lego Star Wars Kits for yourself even if you close in on 50ty!!! )

So here's a pic of the refined layout that suits the overall design of the chair better ( and allows for adding a additional Steering wheel :) )

And for you to see what I can see on my CAD...

I did not have a PSVR Model at hand so envision the guy to wear one if you like ;-) please don't mind parts of the body showing trough the seatfabric. It's quit hard to model "soft" fabric and I saved me the afford to do it :)

Basically I added mounting provisions to the Stick Adapters that allow to fix panels to them which support extra Buttons & Touchscreens like they are found on your Pilot Seat in ED. These will be fully functional and backlit, there will be an integrated USB Hub on the Stick side. all buttons and touchbuttons will be fully programmable. The System itself is expandable with other things like MFDs and Gauges but these are only of use on PC/Mac even the usability for ED PS4 depends of FDev supporting Keyboard Function Mapping so right now it only works for WarThunder. gauges and Displays very likely will never work for PS4 (besides me being so successful that I can team up with Sony :) )

But with PC this will even be able to re-assemble a light aviation Cockpit with Mechanical Gauges that actually work.

Before I spend the cash for a t.flight Hotas I want to verify - has it been confirmed for Elite Dangerous ps4?

Some news on the PlaySeat Mounting i'm done detailing the Stick Adapter :)

Now only the Throttle Adapter needs finalization in the same manner and a friend of mine can mill it on his CNC from blocks of hardwood.

The Complete Adapter looks like this:
image001.png

And is made out of two halfs to be able to mill or injection mold them

A Top half
image001.png

And a Bottom half with press fit nuts

image001.png

And after it is attached to the chair you get a complete mounting support for the Joystick half of the T.Flight

image001.png

You can adjust it back and forth as well as the angle to your personal needs. And once you did that you just screw on then T?Flight Stick like you normally do when attaching it to the throttle.

As you might see while detailing I had to move on the Stick a little bit further compaired to the first sketches.

For now I'll be off for my local GameStop store to trade in my PS4 for a Pro :)

I'll be back soon with details on the Throttle assembly and especially on the "keyboard" interface for the extra Cockpit buttons :)

Use it with a screen

Or in VR :)

And mounted to the chair

So so far so good, send the CAD files to my good Pal Carsten already so hopefully I get the Wooden parts for Stick & Throttle Adapters within a few days....

and then it's Show Time :)

While waiting for the CNC milled parts, I couldn't resist doing a quick and dirty evaluation version. These are ruff and very Hand made but should do the job for testing. Glue needs to try but soon I can go for a test Flight ( in EVE at last )
