I played the game with a HOTAS (X52) since it got released. Got myself comfortable with the controls over time, enjoying the immersion that a HOTAS provides.
Now, after a few months break from the game and the release of the Beyond it's time to log back in. My interests in the game covered many of the activities it provides, with my favorites being for a long time bounty hunting and mining. Some of time spend was in (amateur) PvP combat.
One thing I noticed in many 1vs1 fights I participated was that even though I was the first one to turn and put the target in front of me (while he was still turning), I had trouble actual hitting the target with my fixed weapons, especially if the target was close to me (let's use rails as an example for this). Git good is not an advice, I did spend a lot of time practicing with them. I pinpointed the problem to the handling of the stick and after some reading I now know that most pilots who like and play PvP use mouse & keyboard as their input devices for the better aiming that combination provides.
So this time around (holidays gave me the excuse) I got me a set of a mechanical keyboard and a gaming mouse and also enough will and patience to learn how to use them efficiently. My problem though now lies in the optimal key bindings I should use (at least as a base). Many things have changed from the last time I had to change something in that long list of control settings and I find myself not knowing anything about some of them. Ok, ok hold your horses
I DID read what I could find on the subject the past 3 days, but I still find myself a bit lost.
So I come to you beautiful people to ask for a copy of your key binds file and your opinions about the use of that (classic topic I know... but not for me) combination of controllers. If that is too hard or you think it wouldn't help me maybe you could guide me to a useful post about the subject? The more recent the better I guess. Pictures with the actual key binds would be the best.
Also, any advice and points toward PvP with m/k will also be appreciated. Hopefully this will bring back the topic (I'm guessing that it's old) and bring up to speed returning old farts like me or new players.
