What are the odds of getting some sort of hovering or jet power vehicle for surface exploration? I'm loving elite in vr, but every time I land on a planet I pretty much have to swap back to desktop as the rover is extremely nauseating for me
that aside it'd be nice to have a little variety for surface exploration as well, we have dozens of ships, why only 1 rover?
I think a skimmer should be faster than a SUV, but weaker and maybe only space for one ton of cargo. A crawler would be slower, but tougher.Make it slower, if you must, for balance or whatever... just so long as I find a way to not get sick when searching for mats!
Same - the rover makes me sick regardless how I play it. 30 minute stints is about it before I need to stop, or throw up. I'd dearly love to be able to fly around in a skimmer type craft. Hate to say this but don't hovercraft traditionally need an atmosphere to operate in?
I think skimmers use thrusters actually. There could arguably be a thrust to weight issue on high G worlds .. and, though not saying hovercraft wouldn't be cool, especially amphibiously exploring an earth-like jungle (!) but you can always board your ship, fly 100km in no time and then redeploy SRV.
Basically saying, I think I'd prefer a personal, lightweight rocketman jetpack (and more classes of SRV) to a hovering vehicle for exploring airless worlds. Meself.
I don't care what the alternative is, or the pseudo-physics involved. I just want a vehicle that doesn't make me want to puke after 5 minutes.Basically saying, I think I'd prefer a personal, lightweight rocketman jetpack (and more classes of SRV) to a hovering vehicle for exploring airless worlds. I was walking the dogs yesterday and there was some bloke with a yellow hovercraft belting around near the jetty.
Sorry about the low res pic. Took me a while to think it was newsworthy.

I agree, it's very silly that the skimmers and goliaths exist and aren't player purchasable and interchangeable with the SRV (can you say 'zero coding effort'?). Let the skimmer version have 2 cargo and be fast, but also be fragile and a downright liability on high G worlds. In contrast give the existing SRV FIVE tons of cargo storage (I don't care how you justify it, tardiss magic?)

Why not a player-owned, controlled and deployed Skimmer and call it done?

I made this thread a few months ago, which contains a load of sentry based gameplay.
I'm quite surprised it's not locked itself yet, it's had no interest so far.
