How and why is the meta killing the game?! Is it a problem with player expectations?

I started playing the game at the start of 2017 and no idea what to expect, how long it had been out, or what it was like at release. After watching OA's most recent video, which puts the game's current state in context of 2015's content and desired features at the time, it seems to me that quite a lot has changed, or evolved. Frankly, more so than I expected, based on reading the forums.

I thought the same thing when I watched that.

When I walk down the street, I enjoy my leisurely stroll. But I've noticed others looking over their shoulders at me. Making excessive room between themselves and my path and having a generally confused look on their faces.

I think to myself, "I must be winning". Until I realize that I forgot my pants again.

If you didn't get arrested that is a victory of sorts.

Well, everyone sees the game differently, but I don't really get the complaints about the game's direction. There have been changes made that I didn't like, but on the whole I've watched this game steadily improve over time. The complaints that FD isn't doing enough to address issues and create new content don't really match up with my experience. I mean, the game is a bit empty, but space is big and it's a lot less empty than it used to be. Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I enjoyed the game when I started and I enjoy it more now.

I don't usually agree with some of the shoutier career negativitists around here, or at least not the presentation of their criticisms, but I know where some of them are coming from because when I backed MWO I became one of them for a while. I was super bitter about the game's development focus and pace for some time, until I realized one day it had an uninstall feature that was more functional than my banks of machine guns, and that I still had a Steam account.

It's easy to get twistedshorts when something you really wanted to turn out well or in a certain way, ends up totally something else or doesn't live up to expectations, but I realized that me being bitter or exceptionally ranty wasn't going to make the code or development concepts any better so I went and did the 45000 other things that are available. The game devs there are actually now making the SP campaign game I'd wanted originally so win there, and I didn't have to get an ulcer in the meantime angsting about its non-existence for literally years.

As far as Elite development, I think the game is pretty good for what it is, even if it could obviously be even better than what it is. The framework is big enough to include a lot of different types of gaming and the devs are taking a depth pass and rework at the existing game this year, though some folks won't be happy with it no matter what development results are achieved - not a failing but still a fact. I don't like tuna even though I wish I did, and have tried it several times to see if my tastes had changed with no success. I don't know if being angry at the tuna would help but I doubt this theory.

I have my little rants here and there, but i love this game to bits. I always look foward to playing it. I agree, i see alot of complaing about one thing after the next, its like why waste your time here?

isinona is good example is that you keep going at it, and get your skill up, you can enjoy parts of ED.

Issue is majority of complainers do not want engage with skill. For them 'skill' is knowledge to get their endgame ship. They want to skip parts of ED essentially not playing it.

ED is hard ticket. Play it or not play it. There's no middle ground. That's why so many struggle.

They always make great, compelling videos. But anyway, yeah, could be part of my confusion about many of the advancement issues people seem to have. For me the game seems fairly easy overall. The most complicated bit was just taking the time to set up the controls the way I like them.
