How do i get a refund for the game?

There's absolutely no denying the PR gaffe in all this, but in terms of development, Kay Ross on Twitter yesterday said that at the time of her leaving in October, "there was continuing efforts across multiple departments to optimise and eventually release on console" and that the decision to bin it off came as a shock to her. Even Sally seemed floored by it as well, tweeting from her mission battling her final boss.

My guess is that the rumour of it being discontinued started floating around their offices around Christmas - there was a midyear earnings report blaming the free support and updates as being a reason for the downtick in revenue that came out around that time - and that's why Arf and the CMs went radio silent, with the "we're seeking clarification on some stuff" before they resumed streams and the like. Given the fact that the chat on every stream was filled with "Odyssey on consoles when?" I can understand why they'd do that now.
From what I've seen, FDev has basically stumbled from one 'PR gaffe' to another over the years. One would think they'd hire someone to work on messaging and communication. As you point out, though, I'm not certain if there was anything they could communicate until the decision was made. I would imagine it would have taken a while to do the financial projections associated with continued development.

I think a free copy of Horizons for any console commander who asks for the transfer is fair.
Absolutely. Hell, I'd support giving them a free copy of EDO.

What I'd really like to see if for FDev to provide the console players with a clear, smooth path for transitioning their commanders to PC, to include their credits, skins, ranks, etc.

Exactly that. Any console commander who wants to continue on PC should have the option of moving their entire account over, including every ship, credit, progression, arx, and material, as well as a copy of the game they already have that they're losing eventual support for.

I'm not entirely sure how many would take advantage of it, and I certainly don't know the logistics involved - if it were easy I believe they'd have happy announced they were doing it as a matter of course.

Save state is server side. I seriously doubt there is much difference at all between a PC save and a console save. Reasons they don't allow it likely have more to do with paid cosmetics/ARX and agreements between themselves and MS/Sony regarding profit split, than any technical reasons.

I have absolutely no issues with the money I’ve parted with in ED over the years, I’ve more than experienced value for the hours I’ve put in and the great shenanigans I’ve had with my Squadron.

I do have an issue with the handling of this announcement, but that’s my own personal opinion which I am allowed to have.

I’m moving on to new games and new experiences, I’ll look back upon my experiences in ED with overall fondness, but with a bitter ending.

OP: If you have the skills and knowledge to start this thread, you could have used them to answer the question instead. Based on that, all threads about refunds just look like cries for attention. Such posts don't actually accomplish anything else.

If I had the console version, I'd be sort of okay with having to re-grind for things like engineers or ranks.

What should not be okay is that you also have to re-purchase every single cosmetic for the new platform. It's absurd.

Disclaimer: I feel sorry for our console cmdrs, and I hope FD provides them with a free base account on PC with a transfer of their cmdr. Having said that: if you truly wish a refund after enjoying a game for dozens or hundreds of hours because a DLC you hoped for doesnt arrive you deserve to be unhappy and I wish Star Citizen upon you and all your goats.

You are more generous than I am.

It is. They should have been cross-platform and cross-account from day one. And cheaper. And of higher quality. Expecting console cmdrs to re-purchase their overpriced low-quality skins all over again is outrageous. Every single sane person should protest that kind of cynical corporate profiteering.

Indeed. As much sympathy I have for the console users (and I have a lot), expecting a full refund on a product that you have registered hundreds if not thousands of gameplay hours in is...kind of an unreasonable request. I, for example, bought Odyssey full price at release, have been very dissatisfied with it, but I've had to accept that it's money I'm not getting back due to the hours I put into it.

Console player for several years. No way I would expect a refund. If I’d bought it last week? I might feel different …

Been playing on PC - mainly Odyssey stuff - for a few months now … saw the writing on the wall coming … though it’s still sad to see.

For me … I have most engineers I want unlocked now … apart from Palin … I guess I could grind Fed rank again … but it’s the insane number of mats that I’d need to engineer up all of the modules, boosters, etc that will be the real kicker.

Plus the unique CG modules …

I’d really like to be able to transfer those to my PC CMDR … but am not overly hopeful for something that nuanced.

I really hope a straight CMDR port is made available for everyone else to benefit from, though.

IIRC Mac players got their license transferred to PC. So they could carry on playing PC version bootcamped or native PC.

As I understood it, they could have bootcamped it at any point prior to the mac switch off too. Dropping the client simply meant that playing the game was less convenient, but never impossible.

if there wasn't a refund for the broken odyssey joke till today, doubt there will be for the base game

i also think it was garbage to ditch consoles, but people paid for base game and horizons, they still have base game and horizons, so imo ain't a case for refund.

but i'd LOVE to have a refund on odyssey, since it has been 11 months and i still can't play properly, it took more than 2 hours obviously to know it would be utterly garbage, so steam thinks i love the game and won't let me refund.

lord brebus help me

Your common sense is not welcome her, Col. The forums are still very much in the "anger" stage of grief, with "bargaining" beginning to appear in small pockets. It'll be next week at the earliest before we see depression. God knows when acceptance will set it. Perhaps never. (And perhaps it shouldn't)
Proabably Never. I've had two games 'Sunset' on me. MXO and Star Wars Galaxies. Still hurts now more than 15 years later. The difference here is as long as the Background servers are still up (which they'll have to do as long as they support horizons), then the game will still be available to play. Wish I could do that with MXO but it was the community was fantastic in that game, unlike the game mechanics. It's sad to see the console players 'Park' their ships for the last time, I guess NMS will be getting a lot more players.

How do I get a refund on elite dangerous on ps4 caue I only got the game with the promise of it getting better but yall said console player so I'm need my money back for half a game
People are passionate about the game, many put 1000s of hours into it. ED is a bargain when you compare it to most AAA titles and how many hours of fun you have with them even if you enjoy them. If I were Sony I'd check the hours you've played first. See if you have your moneys worth.
