Newcomer / Intro How do I use chaffs?

Hello again!
So how do I use chaffs? I have 4 slots so have to switch the mode every time to deploy them. I googled it and people said it's "c" by default but that doesn't appear to work. I looked under control options to bind it but can't seem to locate it there.

It's in ship controls > Miscellaneous. It's the same menu section where you bind landing gear and cargo scoop.

Expand the entry and will find the chaff launcher key below "use shield cell".

I don't know what those are but let me look. I'm sorry, I'm not seeing those... What are they and what are they listed under?
Heatsinks fired by the launcher cool your ship which varies from handy to essential depending on circumstances, they are a utility slot item and like chaff can be bound to a key so they won’t get in the way of your weapons and scanners.

SCB Shield Cell Banks these are optional internal items when fired they overheat your ship recharge a partially depleted shield, they won’t work on fully depleted shields. Not something I use for various reasons, it used to be recommended that you had a heatsinks launcher bound to the same key as the SCB to counteract the heat that could be generated.

Heatsinks are useful when:-
  • The heat alarms in your ship are driving you mad, space is obscured by the smoke in your cockpit and the heat gauge is over 100%.
  • You have just triggered an SCB (I am told).
  • You want to sneak somewhere.
  • You want to break someone’s target lock on you.
  • You want to see the pretty frost patterns on your canopy without suffocating.

  • you want to play hide and seek with NPCs (including Thargoids), but you could say that this is also covered by "sneak somewhere"

You probably some point in the past bound c to something else then changed that binding to something different, leaving c unbound.

I'm sorry I have no clue what that means. How do you bind or unbind to something and what would you bind to and why?

That means what you have assigned to that control option in your Options / Controls page(s). You know how to do this already, from earlier posts, it is just the wording throwing you. Binding a button, key or axis to a control in options basically.

Hence why the file that tells the game what these settings are is called a "binds" file. ("Live" have files named xxxx4.0.binds - "Legacy" files are xxxx3.0.binds - the xxxx is whatever you name them or is "custom".)
