How do you deal with combat logging?

There's no way to tell the difference. Frontier's servers and connected instances see that you are no longer reachable. How do you suppose the data on the cause of the outage is to be determined, let alone reach their servers to be adjudicated?

Not entirely off-topic, I was pretty close to terminating an Anaconda last night (honest) when an over-enthusiastic windows pop-up took over my screen to say the latest - what is it? - "Creators" edition was ready to install. By the time I'd managed to get rid of it the other ship had (probably quite legitimately) gone.

Reverse combat logging!

P.S. I was so keen to get rid of it that it was only today that I realised I'd dismissed an important Win10 message about reviewing privacy settings. So presumably I'm just that little bit less anonymous now. Double whammy.

This has been a great thread to read through. It's like a who's who of clogging at a task kill convention. I especially like RhymeRhyme's jujitsu reasoning and justifications for his practices; highly entertaining.

Thank you so much. I appreaciate that! You might send me a PM about "my practices" so I also get a better understanding of them.

Besides of the fact that more people get aware or "interest" in/of me, which is superb (thank you), I still would like to try to get the game mechanics be changed in a way that "connection loss" is not necessary anymore. As I described, there are a few simple reasons why people pull the plug. These reasons should be the focus of a sirious discussion, including FDev. Otherwise, this logging "problem" will always exist. I understand both sides, the attackers and the loggers, in the past including myself. As mentioned, no problem with that as from my point of view, the great imbalance of Engineers is one of the reasons. Ganking and group killing CMDRs another, the potential loss of years of work another. But people still like to hack and slay videos and ending up in useless discussions about loggers. FDev has to find a solution which IMHO lies in balancing, not punishment. There are other aspects of the game that could be improved but that's another "storyline".

How I deal with combat logging?

1. I shout "Nooooooooo" and start looking into the sky and wait for an answer of god
2. I start crying and run to my mom and say to her: "Mami mami - this bad old man not let me kill his T6, T7, T9, (any other ship) with my superior PVP-Killer-machine"
3. I blame this Combat logging guy everywhere with videos and rude text in some boards.
4. I'm waiting for other PVP-Carebears who give me positive comment on my Videos and give me moral support. I start to talk bad about the combatlogger and I feel my self superior again.
5. I write my memoraries about my hard life as PVP-Killer.
6. I play any shooter to kill much as possible noobs to get back my self-esteem.
6. I struggle with the world, my life...
7. I go whimpering to bed every night and singing "mimimi - they not let me kill them" till I fall asleep.

....L.O.L....

You forgot "Report them to FD" .

Not the same exactly but I did have a problem maybe about a year ago that when fighting particular NPCs, specifically anacondas of above dangerous rank, that whenever their hull dropped to single digits, I'd CTD. Every single time. It got fixed eventually of course but at the time it was annoying.

More on topic, I have no idea in my head why someone would want to play in Open, do the PvP thing (especially as the aggressor) and then force a disconnect. If you don't want to fight other players, then there are alternative routes, like not starting the right, or playing in PG or Solo. I mean, by not completing the fight, you'll never really know if you could win. You're cheating yourself.

On the other hand, I also don't see why people get so wound up about it. They did a Sir Robin, you won! Unless you were after their bounty, or vengeance for them killing you or a friend, you've lost nothing. Use the video for bragging rights. Show them for the coward they are, and be done. They cheated themselves.

Of course if you're moaning over a baby-seal who escaped your clubbing, then it's you who should be shamed. Both for whining about it, and for not getting the kill before they left. But of course nobody in this thread would do such a thing, would they?

Well that's golden news because from my experience, n00bs that have been playing a couple weeks and have a 'conda they don't know how to fly - obtained through whatever cash cow exploit is going - are the worst offenders.

Perhaps players shouldn't be piloting a ship with a 30-50 mill rebuy if their ability to handle danger involves writing "I am a fish" five hundred times, doing a funny little dance and fainting.

Earning money the 'right' way makes you an ace combat pilot.

You CLog when you're losing. Failing at noob killing isn't a game mechanic, it's just you being terrible at the game. https://youtu.be/Sz15kfjzGy4

Report them via the player history function in the communication panel.

Then put them here:

How to deal with combat logging? Dont nerf decent ways of making money.

Corvette rebuy, 30-50 million. Some people think players should earn 1-2 million per hour, so each Corvette death you DONT combat log ideally requires 60-100 hours or grinding in their minds. Yeah, no. People are going to combat log.

That's a hugely poor excuse. If people can't afford the rebuy, don't buy the ship. It's still incredibly easy to make credits. Just flying in Haz Res sites bounty hunting can earn around 5mil per hour without a great deal of effort.

To the OP, if you keep coming across the same player over and over again you need to move. :D It's rare I see anyone else unless in an Engineer system and it's not often I see the same person twice.

There's not a great deal you can do about combat loggers. I actually find the whole thing hilarious that people are so afraid of losing their shiney battle wagon they are capable of cheating to avoid it. Just feel smug the person is an imbecile who doesn't like a challenge. Even more so when they're in a much more capable ship. Simply skill less nubbins who have just grinded the game to death or exploited to earn credits. ED has pandered too far toward the MMO crowd, so there's no escape from it. It feels like sometimes most of the flight/space sim enthusiasts have left the game. FD want to make wads of cash so they've gone mainstream.

Report them (with a video if you can), block them and berate them on the forums without giving their name. If they show up to defend themselves on the forums let them talk themselves into a corner and leave them there, embarrassed, thinking everyone's a big meanie.

Why would that help? It's not an official FDev site so it won't change anything. And if it's a KOS list then it's encouraging griefing. Should be a perma-ban just for looking at it.
i agree that sight is a griefers charter. should be closed down.

i will add why; for a time last few months my isp decided to spend months 'improving' its network - which meant my internet would randomly just die (probably so they could connect cables). i lost couint of the times i jumped someplace only to get transaction server error or some such, exit game and see no internet. now if tnhat happened while i was in combat in open with a player... and then report and put on that site, how is it just to blame ME for my internet being killed by my isp so they can increase speed for their business customers on the industrial site down the road from where i live? those outages had NOTHING to do with me. and incidentally my neighbour subsequently had a fault due to a damaged cable but if she played then she would also make it on the list.

never assume combat logging is just that. some is because the internet contrary to most peoples belief, isnt everywhere 100% reliable in all developed countries. sometimes i think africa has better internet reliability.

I love how Nitek is the 5th reported C-Logger on that page [haha]

The irony of why maintaining such a list is pointless is strong with that thread. [yesnod]

Agreed, but yet again? As far FD don't give a squat about regulating ingame player behavior?

In the other hand? Any of the combat loggers can report to youtube the posters for using their ingame aliases without authorization and with it causing them harm. that's something what you cannot do without the other party agreeing it, and can even have RL legal consequences, before a court. And as a result of this? These videos will be removed. But sure as hell, if it's up to me, this reddit thread will be closed down for good ASAP.

Which hunt AKA trolls and cyber bullies tearing their victims apart harassing publicly ashaming them? This my "friend" can also end up as a police case and take you before the court in chains.

So I should report people that KoS me because I'm a pirate o.o? That doesn't seem to add up.

I would very much like to see the legality behind your claim. It's an argument equivalent to that being filmed/surveyed in a public setting is illegal (Not to mention online alias are designed to create a sphere of anonymity) . Better go knock on that NSA door and try again.

LOL KOS lists do not encourage griefing. Hell I put people on mine for things like pad blocking or writing stupid posts on the forum (I love those license thingies). If you annoy me you deserve the rebuy.
