How do you link Oculus Home to your already installed game from Frontier Store?

I've Redeemed my key for Oculus from the FD Store but stuck at the point of installing ED yet again. I had installed OH (older BETA version of SDK to get over cpu compatibility check) to C: drive but will undo history and put it on another which is for games. However, what purpose is there to having the 2 copies of the same game? Can we not simply do the same as EA Origin and start the Install but then Cancel it only for the program install paths to be noted in the OS?
Or is there a way to edit OH to see the original install?
Is it required so that VR uses different Graphics Settings?

Also, has anyone had luck running CV1 with only USB2? Think I need a bigger boat!

You can't as far as I can see - but I agree - being able to point the Oculus Home UI to an already-installed game executable file is a sorely needed feature.

I redeemed the Oculus key from the FD store recently too. I entered the key into the settings in Oculus Home, and it seemed to download the whole game again. I let it finish.
Then I went looking for the key bindings file, meaning to copy it over to the Oculus Install.

But first I ran ED from Oculus Home thinking it'd have default settings, other than starting in the Rift etc.
Nope - all key bindings are there and the graphics settings are all as per the original installation.

So it works either from the original install launcher, the new install launcher, or from Oculus Home, and both the original and OH installs seem to use the same keybinds and graphics settings files.
So apart from the basic "Install in the oculus Library" location, ED seems identical, with the addition of the little Oculus Home UI icons and picture panels. OH even runs the launcher app, then auto-plays for you (giving you a "ED is taking a while to load" message in the Rift view (Its just loading normally).

So far I haven't uninstalled the original install. Will definitely need to copy the keybinds and graphics settings etc, just in case uninstalling the original deletes those files and then OH install won't run.

I think one of my tracking cameras is on a USB2.0 port, and works fine. No tracking issues whatsoever anywhere in my 8'x6' standing space.
Everything else is plugged into USB 3.0 though.

Cool, it functioned in OH but I wait for the DisplayPort>HDMI Adapter for the monitor tomorrow as for now I can not access the 3D setting without the monitor. However, I have seen the demo room working at least and bumped into everything around me hehe!

I only have a PCI slot accessible and I require 4 USBs. Would this 1.3Gbps card be sufficient for the CV1?

If you just want to play Elite in VR - you don't need to install it in Oculus Home. As long as your Rift is functioning, just fire up Elite and set it for HMD.

^^^ this

Installing it in Oculus Home requires a whole new (and separate) installation of the game purely so you can launch it in a different way (by starting Oculus Home, putting on headset and picking ED from your library rather than simply double-clicking the desktop ED shortcut). If you keep both installations then they'll be occupying twice as much disk space and will both require updating. If you remove the original desktop copy then I'm not sure how you go about ever running ED in non-VR (do you still have to put on the HMD in order to launch the game and then take the headset off again?). Also, by redeeming the Oculus Store key I believe you are depriving Frontier of a little bit of revenue.

So many reasons not to do it!

Only if you buy your ED copy through the Oculus Store (or Steam).

If you already have a copy and are redeeming the Oculus key simply so you can access it through the Oculus Hone library, FD already has your money.

He means that surely Facebook will get a shared cut somehow from the redeemed code for the privilege of using their software.

Now then, when OH test reports...
USB: "Some of the hardware that powers your USB ports is incompatible with Rift > VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller"

This is the onboard USB 2.0 but actually it works the HMD in the OH demo as I also used the BETA Install of Runtime to avoid the cpu check on Xeon Quads. It's really quite smooth when looking around although the centre view dot does have motion blur if this is intended or not. Am I likely to really require a USB 3.0 card for the Rift & Sensor (for E:D) or can I get by without it? Also would my m/b also affect any added USB 3.0 card if it's complaining about the onboard ports also? Oculus Support seem to suggest all we need is the suggest £20 card from Amazon (there's still hope!).

BTW Great T-Shirt design for the design your own shirts from the ED Store : -

The centre white dot where you're looking does have a motion blur effect. Its intentional, not smearing.

Oculus Home will update itself - I wouldn't expect the beta runtime to last long (unless the beta didn't have the auto-update functionality). The beta also won't have various updates like ASW, etc.
The cpu check only gives you a text message up top in the Oculus Home screen. Its nothing more than that.

I'd say that USB 2.0 is 'probably' fine in ED. One of my sensors is on a USB 2.0 port and its fine, although the original sensor and the Rift itself are both USB 3.0
The USB 3.0 add-in cards that Oculus recommends are pretty easy to get a hold of. Oculus Home will only warn you about the parts of the Rift that are plugged into USB 2.0 ports.

Try it - you have nothing to lose - you can see it works in the Oculus Home screen. If ED is a bit juddery due to USB 2.0, then an add-in card will fix that. When you get the card, just plug it in, install the drivers, and move the Rift and sensor ports over to it. There won't be anything to do in Oculus Home except check the port is defined as USB 3.0 under the settings page.

Got it working with E:D and wow the Ships interiors are so spacious, the Station too and those asteroids are simply huge!

I can't use the DisplayPort>HMDI adapter. The manual for the curved Samsung 27" shows I can use a DVI>HMDI split adapter instead. Although I do wonder if using a DisplayPort cable would work. All I see is a blank screen. To power it up with DP it needs a cold boot but still only works on its own for that.
I have it working on a 2nd monitor for now so will experiment in trying 1. a DVI>HDMI adapter then 2. a DP cable (my curved monitor has no DVI). Setting this up is really simple. I had to use the BETA to get passed the CPU check due to it not allowing me to continue otherwise. This BETA is not auto updating gladly and was provided on here (halfway down on post by SCAWEN) :-

I have it working best on VR HIGH. Other settings don't make much difference. HMD SS=1.5 and AA stuff is off. Just now want to look into any other improvements. I guess DSR is only for your monitor or are these also providing the extra SS settings?

I have mine working directly from the m/b USB2.0 which it claimed were not compatible (cpu also)! All works great with E:D
If you need the correct USB3.0 for other stuff here's a good link which shows some are actually different if they are the powered type: - https://forums.oculus.com/vip/discussion/28973/usb-3-0-compatible-expansion-cards/p2

Good stuff, glad you got it working!

You can drop the Blur, Depth of Field and Bloom settings to minimum of Off - none are needed in VR.
Depending on your preference, the shadows can be reduced to medium, and Ambient Occlusion can be dropped to Low as well with minimal visual impact.

For me, the HMD Quality setting gives a better quality image and is a bit faster than using the ED Supersampling option.
I would leave any nVidia DSR setting off for ED - in VR the resolution is fixed anyway (apart from any rendering you might do above the Rift resolution for supersampling etc)

I've found the problem with some Display Ports with using passive Adapters to HMDI...

"Generally speaking, you need an ACTIVE displayport to HDMI adapter to use additional monitors. I don't even know why they sell the non-active versions as they never work...Unless you want to invest the 25-35 dollars for an ACTIVE adapter, I'd suggest just getting a standard DVI to HDMI adapter which is available at most electronics stores like Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc. Or you can order one online. Use the DVI to HDMI adapter for one monitor. Use HDMI to HDMI as normal for the other monitor. HDMI and DVI are the same thing, both are digital signals, except that the DVI doesn't have the sound channel to carry."

Also some DP ports only boot up as a 2nd monitor only!

Off to buy a DVI>HDMI Adapter it is then ;)

I also advise to not install the OH E:D if you already have it. Use Virtual Desktop instead if needed for access to everything inc.uding YouTube & Browser (everything!!). OH starts as soon as you put on the CV1. You wouldn't even really need to use a 2nd monitor once you get it all installed. I also recommend you do install the Runtime Setup on your games folder as this is set as default for future games. The Runtime itself is still installed on C: anyways. Hoping that due to the AWS (smoother fps) feature added back in October 2016 so that lower powered CPUs cope, that they will also allow this to overcome the CPU checker! Else I hope we can hack a bypass. Else the above posted link to the BETA works great.
