How do you stay sane while exploring?

The world is crazy and chaotic and even ED is a bit chatic these days, but the peace and quiet and vastness of it all keeps me sane. That and one more good view.
It's lonely out there.

"In the night," Mrs. Dudley said, and smiled outright. "In the dark," she said..”

Explain the question for me please, i don't understand.
This is the 4th month im in the black. The longer im out of reach of anyone, the more busy my schedule is.
I don't find an giganumbers of elw, i dont find any nebulae - and you don't have to, even for the rank. You can scan metal rich bodies and that's it.

Do you want to know what im up to right now? I found by mistake an S - star, in my area. Im heading to it, to see what's there, maybe nothing - if that happens, i head to the bottom of my area to search white dwarves. Then i will return to scan all the bodies in systems i bookmarked, they are a./ big b./ relatively big with cold star c./ have shards d./ have ice giants - i found only two!

What drives me insane is the fact i will need to go back to the bubble for my bubble taxi, suit, one day.
But maybe i skip that and just go for an trip to flight carrier one of the guys who helped me to get out out of the Bubble, that will be solid 40k ly trip.

How do you call an entity, going to scan lone gas giant 460 000ls from main star, 50 000ly from the bubble?
Sending you a human like postcard from The Conduit. DSSA Archer's Prize, to not bother you too much.

Maybe you can come here and find what's not cool for earthlings, but for me, for us, it can be.

I think most people do it by buying an FC. Do something else while you travel, get to an area you like the look of, and then explore.

My ideas for staying sane:
  • filter out the most boring star types
  • use neutrons a lot
  • go to sparse areas where navigation requires a bit of effort
  • if you can, use SRV from time to time, for bio signals, mats, hill climbing, flyving
  • if you can, use SLF from time to time, for canyons, mountains
  • watch YT/Netflix/whatever for longer SC flights
  • take a FC and some friends with you
I started using ED Observatory only today. It should allow noticing lots of interesting stuff. :)

Fleet Carrier - its the way forward.

Exploring is a bit of a life style which the FC has made a whole lot more enjoyable.
I tow mine out into the black 500LY a time and keep going till i find an interesting, unexplored system and spend a few days mapping and exploring.
I always make sure the system has some good mining spots so i can dig out the T10 and kill some rocks for something different.
Then pick a random direction or an interesting area and head off again.

That and listening to re-runs of the Infinite Monkey Cage, some relaxing stuff to get the grey matter working.

I only wish there was a smaller version built for exploration. It just feels a bit.....excessive.

Fellow explorers,

I'm currently out and about, trying to get Elite V in Exploration.
I gave up on Exo, that's just nuts.

I jump to a system, honk, most of the time it's just ice rocks. 6-17 of them. Maybe a Gas Giant or two.
Next system. Same.
Next system, same. And so on.
Out of a 100 jump scenic route stretch, about 80 are either popcicles or just rocks that pays peanuts. Not even worth mapping.
I'm trying really hard to see the rewarding side of things too, but it's just hard when you see the same planets over and over again.
But how do you stay sane in all this?
Definitely sounds like you need to set a star-type filter up - A/F/G/K would be a good start.

The bigger question is - how do you keep your sanity when back in the bubble? That’s the only time the madness gets to me…

I recently took the FC up to Colonia and left it there whilst i took my Annie up to Beagle and over into Oevasy SG-Y d0 somewhere i had promised myself i would go.
I scanned every jump there (52LY jumps) and it took days but i enjoyed it.
On the way back i revisited Sagi A* before heading back to Col.
By this time i was wondering how i used to do this all the time, i really missed my FC and just being able to take a break for a day or two.

The FC seems excessive but i have 34 ships on board so i don't have to use a dedicated explorer, my towing craft is never more than 500LY from base or even a rescue if things go pete tong.
What the FC gives me is a base out in the black where there are no stations and access to my other ships just to fly around and have a laugh in.

As for Trit when im in the bubble (as i am atm planning a new trip) a week or so at Robby and a bit of mining can raise enough credits to completly refuel.

Well it's just that the FC seems to me to be like an Anaconda, and what I'm looking for is an Asp X. Considering most people choose an Asp X over an Anaconda, it's a wonder there isn't an 'FC' equivalent.

FSS everything, map the valuable bodies, set yourself a target, for instance visit the largest star in the galaxy!
That's pretty much what I'm doing.
FSS everything, mapping what's terraformable or otherwise somewhat valuable, and then next & repeat.

1. Explain the question for me please, i don't understand.

2. How do you call an entity, going to scan lone gas giant 460 000ls from main star, 50 000ly from the bubble?
1. I'm usually a miner, a credit hoarder. I miss the homely feel of my carrier.
It was a really weird feeling, last night when I logged off, I got out of SC and just came to a complete stop. In the middle of nowhere. Just cold, dark, empty space. I was watching a movie while flying, so I don't know how far I was away from the star, but it just felt.... serene.
This was the part where I understood people asking for ship interiors. What I wouldn't have given to get up, go to the back, see why I am at 96% hull, do an EVA, fix up that loose rattling plating, sit down, play a game of holo chess (as if we'd get that) and just drift in space (or sit still), just because we can.

2. Someone who gets up, bathroom break, cup of tea, ponders what movie to watch next and won't worry about getting inderdicted?

I think most people do it by buying an FC. Do something else while you travel, get to an area you like the look of, and then explore.
I think I'll jump my FC down to where I am. The crew must be bored out of their mind, no one to boss them around, tell them to put some trit in the tank, fix up a ship and refuel/rearm.
I'm flying my Asp for a change, as usually i'm in my Conda for exploring, let alone everything else the cutter.

Set goals.
Last time I went out into the black it was to map a neutron star route from below the bubble to colonia.
Having a carrier or multirole ship that can do average at all like mining, surface exploration. Scanning with the srv turret etc. Finding new species.
But the main thing I do whilst out there is mapping ringed planets looking for a triple or double hotspot.
But that was prior to edo so might head out soon.
Got some nice suits..

I like exploring, but found I can do so only for up to an hour at a time - then have to move on to another game.
Tend to surface-scan metal planets ... haven't run into any Earth-like ones yet, at least outside the bubble.

I set a destination, a hell of a long way off, and then amble my way towards it. FSS everything that I come across. Get very cross when I'm 40kly from civilisation and have to go back if I want an Artemis suit or a sampler thingy. Get over it, carry on, drop in for an FC visit if too lonely, and sell some data to pay the owner for the convenience. Sing to myself a fair bit.

If I get bored, I quit and do something else. But ah, the call of the vasty black!

I listen to music or chat with friends on discord. If neither of those work, I call it quits and high-tail it back to the bubble.

Maybe one day when I own a FC, I'll make some of those long trips, but not right now. One trip to Colonia and back nearly did me in.

I should also add that I'm primarily a trader. When I go exploring it's in search of something to find. A hint of a possible "eureka" moment. I've yet to experience that. Like to be the first person to stumble upon a Guardian site, for example.

I don't get much enjoyment from simply looking at space rocks.
