Newcomer / Intro How do you undermine other factions?

Hey guys!
I just started to do some powerplay.
The reason why I started this thread is, that I have read that the fastest way to get merits is to undermine other factions.
You have to kill ships of other factions to get 30 merits.
For example if you are allied with Aisling Duval and kill ships of the Li Yong-Rui faction you get 30 merits.
But when I do that I only get a bounty and no merits at all.
How do I find the right ones?

That's sort of right. They have to be special powerplay ships. They have different names in different systems, but when you find one, it'll be obvious.

I wouldn't say that's the fastest way to get merits. fastest is to pay for and carry her fortification data, or whatever it's called, from her HQ to any of her control systems. If you have a decent combat ship and you don't want tp pay for the merit points, killing ships in her expansion zone is pretty quick, and you don't get bounties on you. Look at her expansion tab to see where. Go there and look for the special CZ. It'll have some sort of battlezone name on your nav panel, though often, they're near one of the further out planets, so you need to scan the nav beacon or use an ADT to see those planets, then go there to find the CZ.

Undermining by hooking ships out of supercruise and killing them will put bounties on you. Now, you get NPC bounty hunters after you all the time if you have bounties on you, which can be a bit of a nuisance.

I haven't done powerplay since last summer, but if I remember correctly, you have to be in other power's Control system to get merits for killing their powerplay ships.

you have to do it in the right systems, namely you have to switch your galaxy map view to Power Play and select control systems. Then just pick the closest one to you. There are a few videos of this on YouTube if you search for it.

I just checked. sorry, I got her mixed up with ZH, who was expanding last week using CZs. Instead, click on the "Galactic Powers", then the middle pane, then Yuri Gom. You'll see that he has expansion systems. Go to the nearest one and oppose him by taking the other side in the special CZ, labelled "Armed Revolt Location".

Any time, you can click on any of those power leaders and it'll tell you what to do to oppose them, for which you get merits.
