Really interesting thread for me, being new to ED having just come over from SC.
I find SC weird, people are buying ships for 250-1250$
This means RSI needs to make those ships almost ungettable for non backers. Grinding a year for such a ship or something.
If they won't do that it will enrage all people who bought ships for big $ now.
Only problem is that new players will enrage because the game looks completely p2w and unfair.
Besides that, it really looks like they are milking it. Releasing so much ships to buy over and over again. It almost seems it has nothing to do with backing the game anymore, just getting as much as $$$$$$$ as possible.
I don't like its current structure.
...Also I keep wondering why some SC backers keep saying that E.D is a scam for 80£ (which is ridiculous) and not buying a SINGLE ship for far more than that...
Well, I'm still learning about ED, but I know about SC. Let me try and explain.
The current structure is highly effective for funding. And it isn't bad for fans. You can buy into SC for only $40, including Alpha, Beta and content permanently, no subscription. The equivalent seems to cost me $85 (backers special), but I seem to have some ship choices.
So why are 'we' going crazy with funding?
The thing about SC is the ship balance is quite extraordinary. Each ship will offer amazing opportunities, and it is based on a paper scissors, rock model to some extent. The whole LTI was extremely effective. We all want something 'special' even if it is small!
We are very clear on that we can get the ships in game. We are extremely passionate about seeing the game Chris wants to play being made. I should know - I'm a Vice Admiral on the forums (which is a forum title idiots like me get for spending $500+, but less than a thousand.) But if you are mad enough to
download the 1GB Hornet Commercial, as well as the youtube link of "
Be a Man" you will get why many on the SC forums (like myself unfortunately) just can't help ourselves.
Idris's are about the only thing that looks a little P2W, but they are very rare - Citadel Space Corp, a guild of about 120 players only have 2. P2W in many cases sounds like you get cool stuff that you can't get in game - Well, you can get every ship in game. Even the Scythe, which is ultra rare, well, you can go capture one!
Grinding is not on in SC, it is not go point a laser at a rock and see the ore come in, it should be varied and interesting, and upgrading your ship is very involved.
I am very much looking forward to ED however, and am backing both projects. There is a
new PDF which is a summary of Star Citizen for those nerds like myself that love reading.
I feel I'm too far behind the majority of players already and its not even out yet and there's no way in hell I'll fork out real money to catch up.
I so totally get that. It makes me anxious when there are just a few unique things to discover, and I just know some 13 year old hiding in his basement is going to get it! I try and remind myself that there is really nothing to 'compete' with (unlike STO!) and people that buy too many ships end up depriving themselves of goals in the game..
...stop inferring the high end SC backers (that may end up here as well) that they at idiots for their passion. ...
Er.. thank you! If you count mere Vice Admirals as high end - lol! Some of my crazier friends are Space Marshall's ($5000 plus!). But maybe they are just what we need over here.. Some of those nutty cashed up SC backers with dosh for ED!
