how does ED compare to SC ?

You have to use the holo table to remove whatever gun you want to use from one of your ships and load it on the test gun. Then go fire up the test gun to use it. I don't find it a big deal but some do. The hangar is nice. I have a Cutlass like you. You will get a asteroid hangar when they get it done. The Deluxe hangar we both are in is just a temp holder. And Hey guys I have no problem with people liking different games. That's fine. If everybody liked the same thing then we'd only have vanilla ice cream. Now I like vanilla ice cream but 2 problems with that. A) It would get ungodly boring after awhile.
B) I happen to like other flavors too......grin ;)

There is nothing wrong with your monitor. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your monitor. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to – The Outer Limits.

<grins> There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

hehe I know what hes referring to im just not sure of its point in this thread really. Nevermind its late and ive another **** day at to wake up to in a few hours

Can't we just agree to disagree? ;)
I'm sorry if I annoy some people with my comments. I'll buy SC for sure (but won't back it now) and play through the story. But I just think ED is the better and more deserving game for several reasons, they are not "equals". Just my opinion :)

While I'm a SC backer and expect it to be a great game, I think ED is going to be a far better game to my preferences.

Hey Kong

Jump in and see what you think of it.

I'd love too but haven't backed SC at any level yet!
Don't want to jump on the naysayers bandwagon but I don't like the cheese and self aggrandisement*scene they've got going on. Plus it's looking more and more pay 2 win.
Plus the flight model turns me off!
I did a really good job of not joining those naysayers there I think:p

To be fair it's looking like being a beautiful game but I'll wait and see (I mean they don't need any more money me thinks!).
Been burnt on battlefield going the way of style over substance. Dice went all CoD, threw everything they could think of into the game (balance be damned), overloaded the engine and netcode, lied and ignored the fans - Then Pattyed themselves on the Bachs for a job well done.
I have a bad feeling about SC in this regard, so will stand back and hope I'm wrong.

Don't crucify me for this!!
Like I said I hope I'm wrong as the space genre has been out of the spotlight for too long- I've just spent too much money on empty promises of late and the cynicism is running high in me!

I have my fingers crossed for SC; just as I have my fingers crossed for battlefront 3 and battlefield 5-
In SCs favour I have a lot more faith in that project turning into a good game than I do for the other 2 I just mentioned!

These days I trust my gut more than I trust the hype - with elite my gut said 'how much!?' but was overridden by the school boy in me! (Of ccourse I'm not listening to my gut now - which is telling me to delete that last line and replace with something that won't lead to police investigation:eek: )

SC, if pulled off to Mr Robert's vision, will be awesome, but different to Elite: Dangerous.
I am particularly looking forward to SQ42, as I did love Starlancer, and that style of mission-based campaign game experience.

I also am somewhat unimpressed by the whole showbiz thing with wingman's hangar, and all the 'hell yeah! we're awesome!" thing going on there. But I think that is intended for a mainly US audience, who tend to like that kind of thing.
I don't "look down my nose" at it, it's just not to my liking.

Well Stormprooter; 'the showbiz thing with wingman's hangar', (can't fault your opinion there). But, I'm from Fort Collins Colorado,(US); and this SC approach isn't to my liking either. So I guess I'm just non typical?

I think it's projected upon an 'imagined' US audience by the makers of the programme. The 'fault' is with the creators, and their 'skewed' idea of what the audience really wants.
We get the same kind of rubbish on our TV over here - you know, lowest common denominator stuff.

I'm glad to hear you don't like it, it restores my faith in the people of the US and humanity in general.

Yup, that probably sums up a difference. Squadron 42 is a bit like 'be in the movie' whereas ED will be more like 'write your own movie'.
And I like both - sometimes I want to just follow along and be part of the unfolding story as directed by the game, other times I like to have the freedom to just go do what I want.

Personally I still don't really know what SC is offering. I'm not "anti" SC, I'm just not interested at all because nothing about it has grabbed my attention.

It's certainly not going to be like Freelancer. Here is my understanding of the game:

  • Squadron 42: Single combat player campaign
  • Star Citizen Persistent Universe: ~150 Star Systems; in which we can pursue various careers and specializations including; exploration, discovery, fighting, trading, pirating, bounty hunting and mining.
  • Be a crew member (with a job?) onboard another players ship.
  • Hangars which we can 'personalize' (ideal for the type of player that enjoyed player housing in Ultima Online and similar games).
  • Planets: Walking around bars, stores, stations and ports on planets. Interacting with other players.
  • First Person Combat: FPS sections, used for boarding and hijacking other players ships.

I'm sure there is more.

Don't get me wrong, I've plenty of doubts about this game - and I am actually looking forward to Elite far more. But Star Citizen can't be accused of lack of ambition...and it seems it has plenty to offer (though it certainly may not appeal to all people).

I didn't realise how delayed SC is, it's 5 months delay from Kickstarter statement. For the Alpha anyway, if it comes April.
With the budget they have they might be able to catch up, July-September 2014 for Beta would be pushing it though, but that's what they promised. With Nov 2014 for the full release.

I can't see fully release happening until at least 2016.

To be honest, I don't think that many people would mind that sort of delay. Mainly because the game is being released in modules anyway, Dog Fighting in April for example. After that I believe it is the ability to visit planets releasing later in the year. With the first person combat coming early next year.

All of these parts will be connected together as they release - so there will certainly be a game to play quite early on. Albeit one that is evolving and still in development.

Having kept up with all the information from CIG I have to disagree with that.

Yes, they axed the Dogfight for mid december, this is now coming round about the middle of april. This actually is NOT a delay how strange that may seem...

The initial idea they had for de Dogfight module was to be a seperate development using the Cryengine Netcode. This they understood in december was not smart as it would generate a module that wouldn't be used as the development would progress. They decided to incorparate this development into their PU server design. With this it will be more robust and more complete. So in my view it is not a delay but just a change of design perspective. Yes the Dogfighting module will be later but it is for the benefit of the game.

Actually all the money thrown at the game allowed for this insight to happen. The PU development had geared up much faster that CIG had anticipated. Therefore they were able to see that with a minor setback (releasing dogfight a few months later) it would make for a better solution.

Whatever dogfighting you may have seen up until recently was simulated Multiplayer gaming on a LAN which is MUCH different from true internet play. And highly unstable to say the least. People wanting that LAN simulation to be released are asking for a quick fix while basically we should wait for CIG to finish the game in the parts they decide upon.

Personally I think a lot of people are screaming very loud how bad things are going but they don't take the time to listen to the developers to (try to)understand what exacty is going on. Even IF the development would be delayed... so what... they're making a very complex game, they're bound to hit some roadblocks along the ride.

Being later is a delay, there is no other way to see it.
The alpha ship flying was meant to be in November 2013.
