Powerplay How is Powerplay not open only yet?

Eh, actually there's the only reason I consider decent to oppose Open Only Powerplay: being afraid that your Power will be targeted pretty bad.

At least you've got a reason to root for solo Powerplay. Winning.

No. I oppose Open only PP because that's not what this game is or has ever been. Nor what anyone paid for. Everyone who has the game paid for the ability to engage PP in any mode.

I see that you still won't say why you bought this game or still play it knowing full well what it "is"

That's a great excuse. :)
Call it what you will, but it's what you agreed to when you bought the game too. You supported the idea from day one. Now you want to change it to support your preferred playstyle while denying someone else's preferred style. The difference is that you had the option from day one to accept Elite for what it is or to not buy. You're trying to change someone else's purchase to suit yourself. That's selfish. Drop the Open only ploy and use your efforts to make common ground changes that benefit everyone.

So you are now trying to make it the usual "the game is what it is". We all know. Should this be the only reason to not ask for a change? Of course it is not. Game is old. Many things changed. Now we can even walk. :) And: such change has been at least considered during the last years, so much that some guy here even thinks an employee was relocated because of that (again: good look to @Bruce G who said something similar, may he be next?).

The only difference is that your opinion has been very vocal until now. You won, on that side. Out of repetitiveness against people usually always proposing some ways to offer something different.

Well let's try to make the other side as vocal as yours, shall we? And let's see what happens. As far as I am concerned, I will never stop proposing improvements for Powerplay and any other game mechanic I feel I have the experience to partecipate in a meaningful way. And yeah, I still think that in powerplay open only should be the fundamentals around you build it.

What a terrible person am I, right?

I don't know you at all. Why would I say you're a terrible person? Don't be so dramatic.

It's not a simple matter of what the game "is". Multimode shared and connected galaxy (MSCG) is the core pillar that this game is built upon and I don't support changes to that. Comparing the addition of space legs (which is optional and benefits all modes) to removing MSCG in PP is a false equivalency. Asking for Open only PP is like asking for no PvP in PUBG.

Clearly you haven't been around here very long. The Open only discussion has been around forever and has had voices in the past. The community and FDev have repeatedly pushed back against the idea since it goes against what this game was designed to be. You are no proposing something different. You are not proposing something that would benefit everyone.

Admit that you had no idea what this game was when you bought it. That's not my problem. I did a lot of research about this game before I purchased it and one of the largest selling points was the MSCG. No changes to that. I will always speak out against that. So this dance continues.........

Actually I am here since quiet a long, long enough to recognize bulls when it's thrown against me. :)

Your only argument is "the game is what it is". Same old same old.

And the idea has been even discussed during the Powerplay focused feedback. So apparently not that milestone as you think it is.

I could even tell you which leaderships were not that enthusiastic during the preliminary discussion, and how they expressively said that with open only powerplay they would lose lots of players (not the game, the power).

So it's about winning and keeping that way maintaining the status quo as you can see.

Again: not so green as you wished I was, my friend. Probably if you'd play open you'd know.

And I've been here long enough to see this discussion rise and fall numerous times. Very cyclical.

I believe that you believe that your open only argument is new and fresh. It's not. At least mine is rooted in fact and backed by history. Again, not my fault that you didn't research what the game was before you bought it.

So you're saying that there are enough players that enjoy PP in solo/PG that they will stop playing the mode if it goes Open only? Kinda shooting your argument in the foot if your solution to your issues will drive people away from the game mode.

I get it. You're mad because you can't win the way that you want to. And it makes sense that instead of getting better at playing the game the way it was designed to be played, you want to change the rules to match what you prefer. I get that. The problem is you bought the wrong game and buyers remorse is ok. I think that there are other games out there that will meet your needs. I would again recommend against buying a game that is in direct opposition to your preferred playstyle.

If the only way you can win is to change the rules of the game after the fact, then that really says something.

And I'm sorry that I have no idea who you are. The Open mode on PC that I play in is a really big place. Never heard of you.

You see? The difference is that I am actually quite good in what I do. In fact I'm mostly a pve player. What I would like is to have something different from the game, at least part of it, we've been in many conflicts and we had more fun when we had humans to play against. That's all. I think that with the type of Powerplay I suggested we'd have a much harder time than we have right now and I am honest about it. But losing that way would be much more fun than winning as we do right now. So: no trying to gain advantage for my Power here, speak for yourself about it. :p

Many other minor Powers think that way it would be better (right, @Bashy81 ?) so it's not what you think actually.

Debate usually failed in the past because of the rubber wall from the opposers in the past, I even remember somebody writing in the Powerplay focused feedback that Sammarco had ruined his daughter's birthday to him, imagine that.

So yeah, it's been old but I will personally keep proposing that against all opposition giving good gameplay wise arguments to that.

You should try that too, instead of always repeating that "the game is what it is".

It is better to forget about this power play, which does not really give the player anything and hope for the creation of new mechanics, it would be better to develop the squadron system, now the squadrons have systems but do not get anything from this, you need to create points of interest with limited space to create competition, and best of all outside the bubble, the bubble is too big for there to be a narrow interaction of players among themselves, there is rather a problem of the game itself where it is possible it will not be possible to do because of the game code

Totally agree with you about Squadrons: they should be crossplay to begin with, possibly with some kind of internal economy and giving them the possibility to buy and maintain shared fleet carriers (as the original design was btw), plus I would love for only Squadrons to be able to ask and be linked to a PMF, with rewards for making it successful.

And I believe that part of the game should stay in the mixed mode as it is.

Your judgement about Powerplay is quite widespread, which is a damn shame, but on the other hand it makes Powerplay the perfect game mechanic for giving something really different out of it than the usual spreadsheet war. ;)

nope. I like the game the way it is and the way I bought it. I will personally keep supporting that against all opposition to keeping what I paid for and what the game was designed to do. For me, MSCG is the past, present, and future of Elite. Anything that takes from that in it's current form is rejected wholesale. Happy to be a part of the wall preventing what you're suggesting. Will always be here for that! If you ever care to meet on some common ground for changes, I'll be more than happy to discuss and support. Until then, Open only anything is anti-Elite Dangerous! :D

I thank you to be a living proof that's only a matter of principle mixed with some "oh god my Power's gonna lose!" thing. Too bad I never saw you in any of the "gameplay change proposals" threads I started in the past. Well apparently you only love Powerplay when somebody tries to prove it could benefit a open only game design. ;)

And thank you for continuing to prove that forced PvP ship combat is the end goal, which is in no way a benefit to many customers. Many who, unlike you, knew what they were buying before hand. 😆 Beautiful conjecture highlights your motives! Thank you for this 😉 I love Elite Dangerous for the MSCG. It's a shame that your narrow vision is going to keep real changes from happening that would benefit everyone 😭

Well usually the narrow vision is by people who don't see viable any changes. Just saying. ;)

Or literally the people who only see ONE solution to a problem. Just sayin' 😆
Never said it would be the only solution. See? You are just interested in the "open only" aspect of the thing.

A matter of principle as you said before. Like trying to explain to a believer that a particular phenomenon is not some kind of miracle, just science.

Dogmatism is a hard thing to move from. :)

Great to hear that you're looking at other solutions other than Open only! 😁 What other solutions are you interested in besides Open only? Or does EVERY solution involve forced PvP ship combat for PP participation? I truly understand where you are coming from and what you want. I really do. Your passive insults are noted 😊 The game is better off with MSCG and always will be. I believe that you believe what you say. You can continue to concede the point with passive insults about dogmatism and miracles vs science, but that just because you have no valid argument. I enjoy the frustrated concessions.

Again, not my problem that you bought a game without knowing what it was designed to be. Your error does not constitute a change for anyone else. Buyers remorse is a tough thing to deal with I'm sure, but you'll just have to find a way. I have "faith" in you 🤣
