How many kills to increase elite rating?

Still Novice after 180+ claimed bounties (so more kills). I didn't realised Competent was the 4th lowest, when it used to be the 4th highest (after Elite, Deadly, Dangerous), so was thinking Master and Expert were the new Average and Above Average.

I'm not saying they don't count for ranking, they're just not counted in the visible stats. Just the more reason to show the total kill count if it's used in the ranking mechanism.

Yes a total kill count would be useful for the less law abiding to keep track of their 'progress'.

I find in some areas (more often then not) when I'm carrying expensive cargo I get attacked by clean ships. They don't turn wanted when they shoot at me. I also get no bounty or infractions for killing them. These seem to not count toward ranking.

you sure you weren't in anarchy or stationless systems? Do you have a killwarrant scanner?

In the old Elite you needed 6000 kills to become Elite. Won't be surprised if they took that number over to ED.

By the way, I can't seem to find the number of kills I made anymore in my stats screen. It used to be on the reight panel, below your bankroll. Where do you guys see it? Can you post a screenshot?

It is a bit frustrating to have no idea how many Kills/Bounties/Trading Credits/Explorations you need to do/get for progression? The lack of knowledge makes it seem slower I guess! I remember in the original Elite there was a nice fiction and guide book. (I guess most of you remember what a guide looked like, seems to be out of fashion now, or considered spoon-feedingly quaint.) This set out the pilot and faction ranks and what you needed to do to get progression! It was slow.........but you had a clear idea of what you needed to do!

1600 kills approx 33mil bounty and master... Elite shouldnt be Easy.. I would like to see higher rating targets in RES, as ive only seen master..

Your Elite status is calculated by a background points system, it isn't just kill count. The points are weighted according to the rank if the ship you destroy - a Novice who takes down a Dangerous opponent will rank-up faster than a Novice only killing a Competent enemy. The same goes for trading, too - you'll progress more for trading commodities with high profit margins. Only exploring is a straightforward increment of X earnings means Y rank.
