How many of us will be doing this in Horizons?

It was actually brought up in an interview at one of the recent events that you COULD do this, jump into a ship with your SRV while the ship is flying by, so I'm sure we'll have lots of people trying to do it, I know I'll give a go :)

Our ships will be AI controlled and take off for a 'safe' orbit once our SRVs get a certain distance away, so we'll be able to call them back down to get back on them and that would be when this could happen...until we get multicrew ability. I am going to try and get some of my fellow SRM members from other games into Elite JUST for this reason, because I know they'll get the ship lined up perfectly and wait until the LAST second to close the doors, love those guys!

I think the very first thing for me to try, aside that clip of course, will be to try and jump on a Wingmate's ship, and have him take off. See what happens :p

I think Lee Majors's truck must have had low gravity thrusters too....it was always in the air.

Nope, I won't be doing much (if any) of the above in 'Horizons'. I'm strictly 'Old school' pre Startrek/Starwars Scifi mentality. Think of me as more along the authors Arthur C. Clark of (Rendevous with Rama) or Jerry Pournell, Larry Niven, Poul Anderson etc.

Thus...Exploring, interesting discoveries, -alien artifacts, magnificent sights, creative ways to bang my imagination...

looking forward to landing.
like in aliens "we're in the pipe five by five""
"coming round for a seven zero niner" - whatever that meant - i will be 709ing !
unless this happens:

except, in the movie she doesn't say " #$%^$# I've been in witch space transition from SC to planetary scenery for the past 5 minutes. What the #$%$^$% is going on with the servers.

There are player events such as that, the BuckeyBall Run is one of them, you can find more information just by searching the forums for Buckeyball. There are other player run events as well, and I'm sure we'll have 'How many *insert ship type here* can you jump at once' contests and more once we Horizons hits.

Herik, I too am an old school sci-fi guy, but you know what? Sometimes it's fun to just muck about and do things that are absolutely stupid and probably fatal ingame just for grins and giggles. I definitely have to get some of my fellow SRM members to get into Elite, this is EXACTLY the type of thing we love to do for kicks. Getting the timing perfect for shutting the cargo doors RIGHT as the SRV is about to hit them, that's something we'd have an absolute blast doing, giggling like schoolgirls the entire time. It's silly, it's goofy, and it's fun as hell when you are doing it with friends. We've been doing this sort of thing to each other for 20 yrs now in online games, and this sort of sillyness is why :)

Yeah cause i'm sure the way to get back onto ships will be to jump in the cargo bay while your ship is remotely controlled.......

you might be in for disappointment.

FTR this movie sucked because my gf at the time cried for like two hours over data's death. Yeah i don't know what i was doing with her either.

I think the answer to that is 'not enough'

Funnily enough, I think they did mention something about there being more than one way of getting back onto the ship; and the SRV does have thrusters which may enable it to hop / boost some distance... maybe it's not all that far fetched.

Very old school since star trek began in 1966! I also am now doing a spock eyebrow at the comparison of Star Trek/Starwars mentality. I think you will find that those two are as different as Scientist v ape man.

We find ourselves on a new and interesting alien world.

Star Trek:

"Ahh indigenous creature, like nothing we've seen before, lets learn from this and better ourselves and the galaxy through our wisdom."

Star Wars:

"Ahh indigenous creature, quick whack it, whack it with a light up stick til its dead! Ahh peace in the galaxy"
