How many of you don't play anymore?

Gutsy post. :)

Haha. I was happy to pay the money as frontier had a massive influence on me growing up. I took part in the alpha/beta but was underwhelmed throughout. I did get fully immersed at the gamma stage but just moved onto other games.

I fully expect the development to continue for at least 5 years, well I hope so. I am in no rush to spend lots of time in the game.

My life doesnt revolve aroud ED thus im still more than enthralled by how great it is, ill never tire of it like I never tired of the original. It has its frailties but Wings Will ust makes it even better!

LOL so you're saying you're still playing the original Elite?

I had great fun the day after beta 1.2 downloaded, i played with friends and we did most stuff together, USS, conflict zones, worked out how to use all the wings features, it was great.
i went online to play the next day, and we all found ourselves wondering what to do tonight, it ended up our wing leaving one by one, and then me as well.
The problem is that wings is great, but the game still lacks any depth to enjoy it for long, as always in ED, as soon as the novelty of a new patch wears off, i get bored again.
i find i have really only played this game for a few hours at a time, over a few days at a time, then stop for a week or more again. The game is still too shallow, and nothing to feel like you care about in the game world.
I have recently gone back to playing another game, now this one i can build my own section of space, build stations, supply the stuff needed or watch NPC ships bring it and unload it, i have to check my stations are working and not stopped from a missing commodity, i have ships working for me, my stations have managers with ships working for them.
There is a lot of depth in this game, i can switch on in the morning and play all day, it hooks me in, i care about my piece of space, my economy, my income, my ships. (i can watch them travel and trade in the galaxy map).
My point is, that this game makes me feel invested, and i care about my assets, there are video coms from my captain's and crew, logbook to keep me updated with everything i or my assets have been and done, if i choose to go help them and fight i can, i sometimes have to capture ships and sell them just to get the money i need to finish a station, Elite dangerous does not have anything close to this yet, it is just prettier.

Can i ask wich is this other game? i find myself searching for something else right now until better time for ED.

For the topic: i got to say i'm happy with the wings update provide the chance to group with your friend (even if this feature should be here from the release), but still a massive let down when it comes to things to do in game, i dont mind grind for something if meanwhile i have something to do, but right now the game feels like i'm grinding to grind more.

p.s: all the above is a personal opinion, so if someone want to say if you dont like it search something else, well refeer to the first line of my post

It's X3 I guess.

I guess the problem with ED is, how can FD evolve the game in a way which satifies someone like yourself who is happy to put in that amount of time, while not either boring to death or squeezing out via skewed game mechanics those who favour less frequent play, or those who want pvp, or those who want to explore, or trade, etc.

Maybe the ultimate issue is the notion of trying to create a game which can satisfy everyone. Maybe that's not possible. However, I think there's a lot FD can do to make it much better than it is atm.

I created games when I was a teenager (Electron/Beeb/C64), though stupidly I never sent any off for consideration by companies (duh), but I recall the feedback aspects from my friends of what I'd created. I remember it was often a surprise to learn what players enjoyed and what they didn't. Things I thought were cool were thought boring, while other aspects which I thought didn't matter a hoot turned out to be game elements which were perceived to be totally awesome. As a developer it can be perhaps too easy to succumb to thinking something is good because of a nice visual, or a neat trick that enables the thing to function.

However, many say FD people do read these forums, so at least for the moment I have hope.

Anyone care to comment please on my suggestions above for how better trading could improve MP for everyone?

Ian.

I stopped when they rolled out 1.1.

So many seemingly arbitrary changes, and the bad sound, and the changes to the Asp Explorer's engine noise that, for me, just ruined it. This MMO-lite nonsense isn't what I backed on Kickstarter.

Oh well, plenty of other games to play. I'll maybe come back down the line.

Well i STILL enjoy the game and find it good fun, i dont play more then 2 hours a day and i trade, bounty hunt with friends and do the odd mission to get my rep up.

Im sad to see so many people are negative here and want the world out of the game but dont have any patience.

I didn't tire of it, I moved on hardware wise. Played Oolite though on and off until ED was available to me in Beta. My point being is that I don't sink every waking hour into it and then claim its boring.

we have patience or we werent here checking the forum for updates, personally i wait for when the game is going to fit better for me (that means more stuff to do in it,1.3 maybe?), but like any other things, patience have limits (lets say i am at half right now).
If you already find the game fit your taste i am happy for you (for real no joke), lets hope is going to be fun even for us.

It's X3 I guess.

correct x-rebirth, a pretty good game now, like ED it had a bad start, but 15 months later, it is pretty good now.

edit: correct almost, i knew that, just assumed you must have meant x rebirth, as x3 was out a long time ago, not 15 months.

Even, when I saw the few content this games provides and asked myself, how long I will playing, I enjoyed it until a few weeks ago. But then, as I thought at the very beginning, the repetitive style of the game began to bore me. Instead I'm strolling around the forums in the hope to get some inspiration (and some of you gave me that for a little time) and looking at the forums is way more fun and "MMO" than ingame.

I played a predecessor of X3-rebirth. Can you really suggest playing it now? Would be nice to give it a try now...

X - Rebirth is not x3 ;) . I was wrong. But I must admit I bought x - rebirth, too, installed it and quit playing almost instantly because it was soooo bad. Some called it X - :D . But many pleople claim it to
be playable now. Maybe I should give it a try now and come back after a year ;) .

I do wonder if the people who bought the 'life times expansion' killed the motivation for FD to bother adding much more for now, that combined with the fresh bucks that will be made from adapting it for Xbox.

Just started playing and needed help how to play as nothing is explained enough so I come here. Reading around looks to be lots to find out. Hope not all bad and game gets more.

Errr the game cost more than any other game I ever bought so dunno where this rubbish is coming from ;)

Same here, over 200 GBP. Still enjoying it though, maybe due to not playing too much.

That would be me then, I just gave them too much money ?

I beta tested X3...it was bad, the machines at the time just were not ready for the graphics. ED was in an excellent state when released compared to X3.
