How many of you don't play anymore?

I read the forums most days, and I look down at my HOTAS but rarely pick it up to play anymore. I was wondering who else is feeling a little let down and sad by what we have so far? I still have high hopes for the game and think that they will make it much better this year.

To all you that are feeling like I do, stay hopeful. There is still time but the clock is ticking

I'm giving it 6 months. Fingers crossed.

I stopped playing 2 weeks ago. The game is just incredibly boring once you are a few weeks in and realize that there isn't anything to do other than take screenshots. I have a big problem with this community as well. I've observed a few camps of people. The kickerstarter backers who are too invested to see flaws, the people who played original elite and don't want innovation, and the Eve Online people who think that spreadsheets and extreme penalties are good gameplay. Maybe this is a European thing, but I don't think enough people complain about obvious issues. Folks are putting far too much trust into a company that has released a game in this state.

Side note: I'm sick of seeing people talk about features that will someday be added. This company already has your money, they aren't going to go out of their way to patch in content that they can charge additional amounts for.

Can't be that much of a waste of your time, you're still here, apparently while playing another game.

There seem to be countless hundreds just like you, none of you play ( allegedly ) but you all hang around here on the forums, presumably just in case somebody asks if you've stopped playing

Maybe we want to see the game get to where we were led to believe it was going, and keep coming to the forums to voice our opinions and try to be heard, as well as seeing whats progressed/digressed since our last forum visit or game log in.
Unlike posts like yours, where the poster obviously has too much time to waste and replies in threads that he cant give any kind of constructive feedback for.

I log in, do a trading run then despair at the boredom of repeating that over and over. Or the mundanity of picking up a black box from USS that it will be boring to look for. I consider the kill missions but my ship is not quite ready for that yet.

Then I "Exit" until doing the same thing tomorrow.

Been playing since beta 2 and I'm still enjoying it. I've not agreed with all decisions, and have had a moan about a few, but overall the game has kept me coming back for more. I have a stack of games on my steam list waiting to be played and yet I still get the 'I'll just have a hour in Elite' and head back. I've spent a lot more money on games I have played a lot less than this, and to be fair, this is just the start, the game has a solid foundation so I look forward to future updates.

Not playing much as well, not that i do not like the game. just that it needs something more then what it have now to keep me on the hook, so to speak.

Lots of stuff about it that is amazing. GFX, Sounds, controls, galaxy, ships. (basics)

But also stuff that i hope will be made better. Trade, Mining, Piracy, Bounty hunting, Wars, UI, World Econemy & politics. (gameplay)

And stuff i hope that will be added. Planet landing, walk on stations and ships, aliens, more types of ships and modules(carriers, drones, dronesbays) (more gameplay)

Pretty much the same..I've spent most of my time writing a companion app and then just a little playing..I still pop in and run a trade (which is boring, I need to get back to combat)..but sorta..half optimistically waiting on the side.

Hoping wings will help but yeah...not so sure.

1.3 needs to be about content, specifically missions. Balancing the different careers and scaling them up as you progress.

If there isn't at least some move towards this then the rush for the door will become marked.

Play maybe 2-4 times a month never more than an hour each time. I gave up trading. Like others here have said it's so tedious it's actually an antigame and I'm not stupid enough to waste my time grinding like this when I could be having fun - which is the point of play a game! I'm having some fun blasting pointless AI at a Nav point right now though this is getting a little old - I don't feel I'm aiming for anything and that there isn't anything to aim for because nothing in this game is a challenge.

I'm so happy to be a part of the super special Elite Dangerous players forum.

Oh no wait... it's just the Elite Dangerous forums? That you can join without owning Elite?

My mistake...

Passive aggressiveness aside, it is easy to see why the discussions become circular - some members just don't want others to have an open and honest discussion about a game they played. I have to say certain members of the player base here leave a lot to be desired . One might make the connection that a shallow game appeals to a shallow player but this at it's core is Elitism, and I guess it does fit the ethos of the game's universe :)

They need to create a new Elite discipline called 'Fan' where the only way of gaining rank is through telling others to leave the forum. The ranks can be : "Brainless" "Mostly Brainless" "Brainwashed" "Brain-dead" "Brainteaser" "Brainstorm" "Brainpower" "Braniac" "Elite".

The Elite rank only being obtainable when you are the last forum member. Right on CMDR!

(I feel I have to keep saying, I do play the game, but certainly less than I did although I am certain I will be vilified for having opinions that sit outside of the status quo also).

You have to worry when players play netflix at the same time whether what they are doing is actually fun. I really think TRADER in this game should be renamed to COURIER.

I remember David Braben responding in one of his Dev Commentary's that he wanted people to be constantly doing 'something', so that trading was 'quick' - so they were not looking at spreadsheets and were flying in space instead. Importantly I remember him making the distinction that he didn't want anything in the game that would make people want to load up films on the side. That it was going to be about flying around in space as much as possible. I should find it and post it here but you will forgive my lazyness - I will find it and post in an edit.

He succeeded somewhat, but even in terms of being the courier of the goods the game is only fun when you dock as that is the only time you are really required to put thought or action in (save for setting throttle to 50% when arrival countdown reaches 0:07). I find the docking part the most fun part of it - whereas in an actual courier game, like Euro Truck Simulator, I enjoy the journey due to the constant need for controlling speed through speed restrictive zones, looking out for traffic, obeying road traffic laws, manual gearing (with gear shift) etc etc and then ending with the attempt to reverse park a trailer ( more difficult than docking, to the point where most people skip it lol).

Not to mention that in Euro Truck you can employ other people and make a business - why a trader cannot make their own business and then employ NPC or Human couriers, make their own space station or have an office at one where they can properly trade.

I think the issue of the tedium lies in what was not really thought out - yeah spreadsheets can be mindnumbing for some people - but trading is min/maxing to the extreme, minimising losses, maximising profits. Playing it 'properly' or getting into it does require tools that stress your margins and should allow at least rudimentary data analysis (in ship).

If you could do that you would spend your time number crunching for your next trade, analysing data and purchase history and recent market changes while travelling between stations and systems. Then being the courier of the goods does not mean simply flying the same trip between two systems to the same starports over and over - you are constantly looking at options - you are more like an actual trader, rather than an Elite Courier.

Yes it seems weird that what Braben thought would be boring with spreadsheets he replaced it with an even more boring thing. I would have thought that anyone who was into trading would like more things like spreadsheets so they can work things out - that's the fun part in trading isn't it? I still had to write down every commodity between my stations anyway to find out what margins I could make.

Parking in ETS2 is like landing your F-16 Falcon after a mission in Falcon 4.0 (BMS) - it's the icing on the cake :)

Got bored out of my skull some time back. I just don't have the interest to work out what the optimum trade route is using the ingame tools, and can't be figuring out how to use the plethora of external tools available now. Consequently, I have a cobra that has a couple of bits of kit on it, but most of my money has come from a mix of mining, exploration and bounty hunting. None of which is particularly interesting in the long term. One system looks much the same as any other and I haven't seen a player since launch. Like, EVER. I'm stuck in the middle of no where and can't be bothered trying to find anyone/anything else to do. By the time I do come back into the game, most of the players will be in whatever the top tier ship is with billions in the bank, so god help me if I ever actually do meet another player.
