How many of you don't play anymore?

I've played this game a lot. An awful lot since alpha first came out. I'm not playing much at all anymore though. I think I'll keep an eye on things here and see what future updates bring. When the game more closely resembles the amazing DDF proposals ... In other words more depth and things to do ill come back to it and more importantly be talking about it to friends and on other forums.

Started at launch day, and played a lot. About a month ago I started to burn out just a little bit... there were even a few days where I didn't log on at all. I would kind of go back and forth, finding myself in a rut looking for things to do, and then having a GREAT time doing some combat, or getting into a new ship, or something. Anyway... I then decided to put down the 2d flat game, and actually get into my ship in space, with the purchase of an oculus. I have been absolutely addicted (again), every night since. Even grinding out trade runs is mad fun. It's like Elite Dangerous 2.

Do you play those without mods? I've never bothered with X because none of my friends play it (about 30 of us have been gaming together since school and although our numbers have dwindled we still really only play games on the grounds of 'peer' review).

I'm looking at them hmm'ing and aaa'ing recognising their potential but I really don't want to have to play around with mods any more. Oculus makes me not want to play around with anything for a while, the amount of time I spend configuring the damn thing haha.

No i do use *a lot* of different mods with X3 ( plugin manager and script exenteders and so forth, very much a like Fallout 3/New vegas/Skyrim has. ) Perhaps you should give it a go? People say that there's a steep learning curve but that's only because lack of in-game tutorials, but you can find plenty tutorials on youtube and on X3 forums.

Ah no tutorials needed for me, I enjoy the deep end. With you using a lot of mods I have to ask: It is that the game is not good enough without them or is it because the mods make what is good so much better?

I will look into it over this weekend I think, thanks for the information :):)

Im just about ready to jack it in dont think that we will be seeing all the promised features anytime soon now that they have announced xbox, as a KS backer I feel ripped off and the never ending beta cycle to test features that havent made the game anymore interesting/balanced is getting pretty stale. DB maybe should spend more time on implementing what was promised and less time on the PR and Smoozing awards and congratulating himself on the "fantestic technical blah blah blah".

I would be more enthusiastic if the bug that killed my jstick config in the last beta had been fixed but hey Frontier would rather ignore that and just add more features that need more Jstick config that they havent fixed. I dont think Xbox will do that well. I tried a xbox controller and it was a pretty awkward (might have been my banana fingers) I did feel I didnt have enough buttons to play easily.

The game is very thin on content Im sick of the sight of all the cookie cutter space stations/missions and the mindless grind to earn enough to get a decent ship, playing for 2 hours a night 6 nights a week its a long time to get anywhere and the risk vs reward of playing open world is not worth it when the loss of a ship costs you 6 hours play to pay the insurance. Its not a interesting or fun game at the moment its a job simulator with travel missing a lot of the basics need to even do that.

When the game became Space Quake and the developers whole-heartedly endorsed being a -bag as a valid player choice. That did it for me.

If I wanted to play with dinks, I'd go back to EVE Online. At least there, I could run my business ventures and be IMPORTANT to others as something other than a bullet backstop.

I played from Beta 3 to beginning of January. Mostly got bored by too much shallowness and fed up with the sub average quality of the game, the company and all the rest. Sometimes reading the forum since. And i don't see much hope for the games future since that would require a couple changes in the dev team, just to begin with.

Vanilla is good for feeling out and learning the game but eventually you want more, more, MORE! :) Some mods makes things more convinent, plugin manager is a must. and for example training marines takes ages, and why not add stations who sells experienced ones (for higher price of course) and why not add docks who sells ships (ie khaa'k ships/weapons) and factories (ie. plasma burst generator) witch are not for sell in vanilla, so on and so forth. Overhauls like x rebalance, x-tended, are worth of checking out.

The thing I am afraid of is that the communtity will loose players.
Read todays newsletter about many players are good.

I don't play anymore, I definitely got my money's worth though. Probably will start playing around Wings or after more future content, lookin pretty good either way.

For the love the god. Mods? Thread going nowhere. Circular. Same people posting what amounts to no more than a PM conversation.

OP question one sided and effectively aimed at negativity. It is in fact a negative love in opportunity.

Seriously. A few of the posters need to move on, or they are certain OCD candidates. Sad.

Cheers

Kinda on the same boat, I just recently played again after 1-2 month long break. And the game really hasn't changed a bit but I guess you can't expect for it to change in so short a time.

Sorry for posting twice Sir

What? OP's post was a concise opinion about the game, he even said that he still has high hopes of the game but it currently isn't delivering... You shouldn't post if you had anything negative to say or what?

I liked this part of the newsletter.

"The foundations for our upcoming Xbox One version of Elite: Dangerous have been in from the earliest days of the project, with Xbox controller support in some of the earliest builds, and the entire game built on our homegrown Cobra engine. "

Kinda contradicts what Michael was saying in the Xbox thread, about the game not being built with consoles in mind.

It's in the title, but you are right, I do not actually believe the OP intended it, but it has ended up that way. High hopes or not, right now it's a an ED hate love in. Boring.

I wish people would stop posting in threads they find boring. Just don't post. I hope everyone interested in this thread ignores the inflamatory spam posts. Just ignore them. They're only trying to derail the thread.

So, yeah, I don't play. Haven't played for a while. Holding my breath for a bug free, content complete version. Here's hoping. :)
