How many of you don't play anymore?

Heck, I like the game. It reminds me so much of Privateer from Origin (think Star Citizen's creator along with Erin Roberts). The following suggestions would make the game more interesting:
1. Improve mining, i.e. tractor beam. Drones would be too complicated.
2. Special equipment upgrades that require the collection of specific commodities and minerals to build.
3. The ability to communicate with AI on a very basic response level of course, i.e. a positive response elicits a positive
reply and vice versa for a negative response which may initiate a negative outcome such as turning from friendly to
enemy.
4. Having established a reputation in a system, when engaged with an enemy, the friendlies come to your aid and assist in
enemies destruction.
5. Being able to hire AI wingman to fly missions with you and therefore also able to assign said wingmen to certain
whilst you are engaged with your main target. This would be especially helpful in Combat Zones.

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Hate to say this but I stopped playing for about 2 weeks now last time I played for about 30 minutes Just to see what is up to date then switched it off - I am waiting for something and will keep an eye on the forum to see what is new - I don't think its really fair to say on here what I have been playing now but I have been playing it solid for many days now

This thread was an interesting read.

I'll only be repeating the posts of others, but ED for me atm is logging in after a patch, seeing what's different, maybe changing some modules on my ships, then logging back out. I haven't quite hit uninstall mode yet, but my SSD is fairly small and I've been wanting to get back into a few other games.

I don't regret purchasing and playing the game, I feel as though I had a good, albeit brief, run with it. It's just a shame that the game proved to be as shallow as it did. I'll keep checking in and see which direction the game takes.

I took a break recently, spent a week playing CS:GO with my buddies but I'm back now ;) The urge to dogfight in space is too Strong!!

For me gaming ain't about playing the same game only, I made a ginormous mistake doing that during my World of Warcraft years and regret it so much as I missed many other good titles.

I'll be honest tho, I find it hard to play the game during these upcoming patches beta phases, since I'm not in it it just feels like I'm playing an old game :D

I hope FD would open the test server to all of us, maybe in the future ^_^

The announcement that the game was going to be coming for the xbone was the final straw for me. Its more of a principle towards buying any game that is for consoles. Been burnt and dissapointed way too many times. Enough is enough.
And honestly, i've lost faith in this project since release. So im not that bothered really. I just pop in here to look for news and such.
I think we wont see anything new and awesome in this game until this time next year.

Little content, no communication with the community, no roadmap, no ingame tools to do whatever "Job" you choose.
Flying in the dark most of time. No matter what it is you are doing...

I got what i paid for when i bought the beta. But in the long run i feel it will be a long time before i start this game up again.

-No market trade tools.
-Mining sucks. No seriously. It sucks.
-Combat payouts are demotivating.
-No missions with a slice of passion. (Just randomly generated, extremely low paid, sad jobs.)
-Horrible in-game chat system.
-Most unsafe way of conducting traffic through a spacestation that i can think of.
-No paintjobs, decals or other cosmetics to aqquire ingame. (Paid content not included.) ...and what already is ingame is so miniscule and boring it doesnt count. Not for me.
-No NPC faces/characters or voiceovers, anywhere. No connection to your mission in any sense. Beyond the credits you are paid.
-Too many NPC spawns, all the time, all over, no matter where you are, with no purpose beyond being there for you to see.
-Background simulation doesnt really seem to work.
-Becomming allied with a faction is completely anti-climax. (You basically get a new color on the hud)
-Completely moronic programmed A.I. They want all of your cargo, even tho you dont have any or have dropped it all. They always just start shooting. Regardless of anything.
News and events, mostly created by someone from FD and not from player activities. Some player created experiments have made it to Galnet.
Community goals... seriously. How lame. Also the payouts from taking part in them are so low i dont know why anyone would.
-The bobblehead. In beta i had a bobblehead. Now i dont. Definitely the worst decision they made. Im guessing that will cost me 5£ from the store down the road if i ever want one again.

To the +

+Looks beautiful.
+Sounds great.

+Fairly addictive. (Trading in my case. The reason i bought it. 250+ hours maybe)

But in all those hours playing i sat with the sensation that something was missing. Everywhere.
As i said earlier. I got what i paid for when i bought it but as a RELEASED game that has now been out since 16th dec and in light of recent news, (Consolifization) i've completely lost all faith i had in this game.
Im not saying: "I wont ever come back." But im pretty sure i wont come back in quite a while.
Reading up on whats out there on the DLC/Update "Wings" i feel like, that stuff should've allready been in the darn game ok!
Im a supposed to be excited about wings!? For what?
In the end it doesnt matter what we think.
FD will ALWAYS follow the money above anything else. They are a company after all.

This is an exceptional post.

I don't regret purchasing [...] the game

Absolutely, no regrets here either. Despite the rushed release and my doubts about the future (regarding the consolification), I feel I owed at least that little money to David (too bad Ian is not around) - guy who made two ground-breaking games which I enjoyed immensely: original Elite and FE2. Needless to say, in times of ZX Spectrum and Amiga, I didn't have a habit to buy games... if you know what I mean ;)

I've gone back to Fallout 3 GOTY Edition atm, because there's not enough stuff in ED for me to enjoy at the moment (I've traded, pirated, boutny hunted, mined, done missions, etc.) and I'm starting to feel a little burnt out. I've been testing since Premium Beta and although I do enjoy it, I'm waiting to see how heat mechanics and module damage break exploration (the one thing I love about ED). Either way, I'm entitled to be on these forums, and I hang around to see how things are developing and whether it's worth jumping back in yet.

Reading most of these posts sounds like people are breaking up with a long-time love. "I just can't do it anymore", "I can't make myself log in...", etc.
E: D was a big bit of nostalgia for me. I still remember the feeling of playing it in the 80's when there was nothing like it, and I think a few of you do too.
So while the dew isn't necessarily off the lily, I too find it hard to log in and play daily, although I try to get in every two days or so at least for just a half hour or so...punctuated by the occasional longer session.
I do love the idea of an open ended, never ending game. I would love there to be SOMETHING besides Elite status towards which to strive that had merit in its attainment.
I am hopeful future upgrades will bring that to the table, assuming they can keep enough people around long enough to buy them and keep the servers running.

Haven't played for weeks. First came on board during PB and thought the game showed enormous promise to become something very special. What it actually became, as I got warned for saying too often, is a game that is a mile wide and an inch deep. Such a colossal, almost absurdly vast arena and yet precious little content. I come back now to see if there's any gameplay coming in the latest patches and to browse the forum remembering when I thought ED could be as important and visionary to gaming now as Elite and Frontier were then. As it is, graphics and sound aside, it's a step backwards from Frontier. It's so... dull. Empty. Lifeless.

Is that going to change? Quite probably, but I think everything that's wrong about ED can be found by simply seeing what's in the patches. I always thought patching was for rectifying problems and bugs, but this is the first game I've paid for where I feel the game will only come after release, and a long time after at that. That's what beta is for and this is a released product that should be far, far more complete than it is, and what there is really isn't up to much anyway unless looking at different coloured spheres floats your boat.

I find SC having no auto-pilot to be one of the most short-sighted, badly designed and terribly implemented designs going, and in a game that features an almost comically shallow mission and reputation system, that's no mean feat.
And while we're on the subject of the rep system, I love that this organic, ever-evolving universe actually needs FD to pull the strings behind the curtain to make it all work. And that they need to do that entirely undermines their decision to can single player.
And speaking of that, dumping the single player version in such a sneaky, underhand way and so late in the day gave me every reason to doubt every single promise FD made about this vapid piece of coding.

Other than that, this post says it better than I could...

I used to play everyday, but I'm down to 1 or two days out of the week now. It's still the best online space sim option i have. Unless that changes I'm sure ill be spending some amount of time in ED.

perfectly said and something really special will have to happen before I will pay for upgrades

Played most days since B1. Depends what else is happening in my life. Spring approaching so i like to get out on my bike and that takes priority at the moment. Had a couple of manic evenings for the terraforming community goals for big profits but nothing for a couple of days now. Have made sure that i have paced myself through this game and still enjoying my A grade asp plus 50 million in the bank. Im in no hurry...

Needless to say, in times of ZX Spectrum and Amiga, I didn't have a habit to buy games... if you know what I mean ;)

I also have to add, I also don't regret the purchase at all, I joined for 60 Euro in the Standard Beta. And I spent so much time with the game, the money was totally worth it! But now I have my well outfitted Cobra and no real desire to grind more to get an ASP or whatever. So I wait until there is more content hopefully in the future, still hoping that there will be more different mission types to have fun again.

I'm a huge Elite fan, and currently i still play FFE (FFED3D version) for my life long 'Elite' fix. I'm still waiting to START Elite: Dangerous, as i have not felt it has reached the level of the previous games for me to spoil the game by trying it too soon. Real story!

'The Plan' is to resist until Planetary Expansions comes out, and hopefully by that time the game will pretty much be a feature complete expansion of the whole Elite series, and then i'll get stuck in.

I do play the training missions from time to time in the meantime :)

Reasons why I currently don't play: lack of depth, missing gameplay (standart gameplay!) elements like paying players, depth of trading, breathing market, high prices and oppotunities and not just poor run mission trading, this is delivering goods, but not trading at all.
Lack of weapons, missions, GOALS and stuff like that.

Yes ED has infinite freedom but that doesn't mean it can leave out other elemts. Why jumping into your ship if you have nothing to do? Why doing community goals? I am not interested in a new starport, we have enough of them.
Clans missing, alliances missing.
Mining missing (the current form is not worth to be called mining).
It lacks in everything. We have an empty game wit hcool graphics, a prototype of what ED can be in, let's say realisticaly, 2 years. But then I am not here anymore, I will play other games.

perfectly said and something really special will have to happen before I will pay for upgrades
Well said.

With the negative response to player outposts request, it seems we will never see any expansion of the hub systems into the unexplored regions except those community goals for each and every one. Having a billion credits, triple elite and the top rank with all factions means you've won the game. There is nothing more to achieve and no story lines to follow either. With that amount of cash, you can buy any ship in the game and pimp it to the top grade gear, for what purpose? Why not have something more to reach for? It's not empire building if you can't really profit from it, (no commodity market), but it is a way for players to create way stations for other weary and battle scarred travellers to get repairs. It's a place for you to store ships and materials for the next outpost and modules for your ships so you can refit them for specific jobs as well as mined ores to sell elsewhere for profit. It's expensive enough to make it a difficult goal and only the rich can afford it but it's a goal none the less, something more to work toward. Another would be capital ships that cost half a billion. Armed to the teeth with turrets but slow as hell out of SC, it would take a small fleet to bring it down. A big jump range, room for a Cobra or two, or even an Asp and enough resources to build a new outpost. These are the outpost builders, the ships that move from system to system, putting up new outposts.

This is what a game is all about, setting extreme goals for players to work toward which this game sadly has few of. What goals we do have are easily attainable which is typical of games of today, too many games allow you to reach the end-game fast and then sit around wondering what to do next before finally quitting the game completely. Is that really what FD want?
