How many of you don't play anymore?

Frontier need to do something quick as the competition is coming. It has been 3 months since release, no major content has been forthcoming yet. We have had some updates to mechanics and some are invoming i.e wings but we are crying out for content.

I predict within 3 to Six months we are going to see either SC squadron 42 or No Mans Sky. Either of these games could steal not only a large part of elites customer base but also its potential customers. NMS is certainly tempting me to get PS4.

But NMS seems to become a similar empty sandbox without content like ED, as I wrote the latest articles today...
Good graphics but lack of content. If they have put their effort and money instead of creating an excellent graphics demo into something like studying game design, their effort would be better recognized and no waste of our money. The best recognized indie games made it upside down: they lack of good graphics but have sometimes amazing game content and captures the gamer's attention for a long time.

I also hope the next update focuses on single player content. I've spent very little time in game as of late. I'm happy that grouping is finally being added in a meaningful way for all the multiplayer people but now it's time to refocus on all of the half-baked mechanics in the game. Mining needs an overhaul , exploration needs to be MUCH more then pointing your nose at a planet or cluster. Missions need to have some sort of meaning and we need to feel the universe is alive. Stations being built with NPC activity going on and the REAL feeling that there is conflict out there. The universe is just too sterile. Flesh it out and make it feel real. There have been so many threads with great ideas on how to flesh out the gameplay but I rarely ever see comments from devs saying "great ideas".

This post is not unique. There are posts like this on here every day since release and the management choose not to answer in any of them. I personally dont care if they answer within these threads their silence is so ubiquitous. If they do take the time to read them theres a common trend in all of these threads so instead of them sulking about people complaining or suggesting or whining or whatever they should put their money where their silence is and come out talking about where this game is going with specifics (dates not necessary but a rough time frame would be nice).

I haven't been on the forums long enough to gauge whether or not they respond so cannot remark either way, I am certain that I will learn in good time the truth of that statement if it is as dire as explained however.

So lets see..... this thread was started on friday afternoon...... since then devs have been at work for a total of hmmmm ....4 hours tops. Then they went home for the weekend.

Just when should they have stopped everything to read through this thread and post a reassuring comment ?

With all due respect, threads what touches or directly points out the general/core problems withing the ED has been around since the release, and most likely will continue to. But the devs hasn't responded or acknowledged the most fundamental issues in any way of shape or form. (At least to my knowledge) To be fair , Sarah Jane ( Big kudos to her! ) has been in direct contact with the community in regards of improving AI program and she listens the feedback and adopt good suggestions. So all in all, i would hazard to guess that releasing road map will put many minds at ease. Sorry, my english bit is rusty.

Been playing since beta 2 and I'm still enjoying it.[...snip...] I have a stack of games on my steam list waiting to be played and yet I still get the 'I'll just have a hour in Elite' and head back. I've spent a lot more money on games I have played a lot less than this, and to be fair, this is just the start, the game has a solid foundation so I look forward to future updates.

Same here, and I'm afraid to even think how many hours I've already invested into the game :) I too believe that the game will continue evolving for a long time to come. There are beautiful things ahead for space game fans!

Of course I can relate with people leaving the game especially when they have been playing crazy hours per day for weeks - too much repetition is too much repetition no matter what form it comes in. Elite needs more content, yes, but there has been a steady flow of that coming in since day one. Patience is key here. While waiting, I just enjoy the ride...currently planning a loooong exploration trip with a nice glass of cognac in hand :D

It doesn't really matter how long you have played the game - it is no less so repetitive than after the first time it becomes repetitive, which means after you have experienced it the first time. Peoples endurance for repetitiveness does not factor into that repetitiveness exists and is a concern for the longevity of the game.

It's not 'burning through all the content' that is a problem for these people, it is a 'lack of depth' in the gameplay outside of combat that worries them.

Missions, mining, trading, exploration - very shallow experiences - the rest - I cannot personally complain about.

A dev builds what the project demands, and usually a dev knows more about how crappy things are than anyone else on this board knows. To expect a dev to come up here to acknowledge anything is pretty absurd. Why would he? He just builds what he is asked to build.

Having read through the preceding pages, it seems that the general feeling around here is - by all the camps- that Elite Dangerous is lacking but it has a great potential.

I fear the epitaph of the game will be: " It had great potential. "

-Most unsafe way of conducting traffic through a spacestation that i can think of. ...

Your post made some excellent points, but this one stands out for me as being particularly spot on; I mean seriously,
in a far future world, 1300 years hence, with the technology, engineering skill & physics knowledge available to build
huge orbiting space stations, many positioned a long way from central habited worlds, and yet nobody designing the
enclosed stations thought to have separate entrance & exit ports? Having separate entrance/exits (either entirely
or controlled via lanes/pathways) is standard in vast areas of existing daily real life: train stations, bus depots,
supermarkets, DIY centres, car parks, petrol (gas) stations, and every drive-thru burger joint imagineable. :D But
apparently in the year 3300 they've forgotten about this rather obvious way of avoiding preventable accidents. Sooo
glad I came across someone's suggestion last week to always keep one's Landing Gear active when inside or near a
station, thus preventing accidental boosts.

3. The ability to communicate with AI on a very basic response level of course, i.e. a positive
response elicits a positive reply and vice versa for a negative response which may initiate a negative outcome such as
turning from friendly to enemy.

..

5. Being able to hire AI wingman to fly missions with you and therefore also able to assign said wingmen to certain
whilst you are engaged with your main target. This would be especially helpful in Combat Zones.

See the 'PS' at the end of my post here, the part beginning with '(#)'; ignore the main body of the post,
not relevant (just a suggestion for improving the insurance mechanism). The '#' PS are some thoughts I had
about NPCs and where I hope FD could take the game in the future. Comments welcome!

I've said it before, and again prior to that, as well as multiple times previously, but i'd fire up ED more often if only it was pausable. I only play solo, don't care for MP, and only trade, hence the grind is, quite literally, unstoppable. ...

Depressingly I've found this to be a problem since I first started playing. Work & daily life mean I often I can't find
a large enough empty block of time to dedicate to playing without interuption (I too am only using Solo mode atm).
It would make a huge difference to how I can decide when to play and for how long if I was able to pause. Fully
understand why pausing makes no sense in Open Play mode, but really it ought to be possible in Solo mode.

... but I actually really loved the way the ship went entirely dark during the process. I so want a button to do that for myself, the view with all the lights out in the cockpit was spectacular.

That sounds like a really good idea! Should be easy to implement too. Come to think of it, why doesn't the Silent
Running mode turn off most of the lights, or at least dim them significantly?

Ian.

@OP, I've been playing the beta builds, I gave Wings a couple of hours this last week. I'll probably give it a shot when it gets integrated next week. The game is getting better, but still has a ways to go. Until they can sort out some sort of trading computer or system to track trade data, I'll probably continue to stay away. Having to use 3rd party tools or pen and paper for arguably one of the biggest roles in the game is just silly. Also the background simulation still needs a lot of work IMO. I have faith that FD will eventually fix these problems, I just don't want to sour on the game before they do. So I am content to log in every few weeks and see whats new.

Sorry if all of this was already covered in other posts. But letting a thread get 38 pages deep is just a testament to how rarely I swing by here anymore.

I haven't touched ED since the 2nd weekend in FEB. Like most people, I got very bored with it. yeah flying in space is cool and all but, after doing a few runs trading I get bored. I got into my viper and go and shoot npc's and after 1 hour, I'm bored again. Doing those missions to get good with a station and you do a mission, 2 missions later the same mission is back up again. the black market isn't worth it, as you loose money. And the last time i played the gal-market had a bug and it didn't matter how much you brought in or took out of a station nothing changed in the demand area.

The DDF says that depending on what you do. things like system boom, will increase population and also change the demand of products. nothing changed. Also I'm still waiting on the transporting people missions. we have the luxury transport ships and no missions for them.

Yes I get that indepth missions and selling goods to factions won't come in till the walking around and meeting NPC's but at least have something in the menu as something would be better then, doing boring trade runs, specific community goals with not a lot profit, which makes it not worth the time. FD you have the writers that have written books and plot for ED, get the to write some decent missions for us. how hard would it be, then all you would have to do is add them. you wouldn't need to work out if it will change the plot of the story because the mission are the story.

If 1 faction is getting too high due to the mission being completed, change the amount and give another faction more to make the power struggle to what the story is following. then the system is still under your control. Also doing something like this may even cause more conflict between the major powers and give the military players more combat. plus keep the CMDR's entertained and want to play more. instead of getting bored and waiting for the latest major update for game play stimulation.

I'd be interested to know just how many people are logging in per week these days. The game's severe shortage of meaningful content is bound to be causing something of a minor exodus.

I play less nowadays than I did in 2014, but that's due to good changes in my personal & working life that leaves me with less gaming time. Total time played is probably around 180hr since the start of Beta, and can currently play about 4-6hr a week.

On the flipside I can see how the CMDRs that can fit in 25+ hours per week in ED can become bored if they're not 'into' astrology or space-science, as the gameplay mechanics and persistent-content could be considered bland when compared to the long-term MMO heavyweights like WoW and EVE. This situation will only improve in time :)

Last time I played was for around 2 mins after 1.1 came out.
Installed the patch. Found myself in a station with the choice to either use my T6 for trading or take the 15 min trip to my Cobra.
Both choices felt like a gigantic waste of time so I quit.

It's funny considering that I loved the game during beta.

Astrology and astronomy are two entirely different things. There's not much "science" to speak of in the game beyond roughly proportionally correct astronomical bodies. As far as whether or not things are going to improve, Elite: Dangerous is facing difficult competition in the near future, and suffers from a relatively small development team. It's too early to speculate, but I'm tempted to assume that it, like so many Indie titles, will wither away after shuffling its feet with relatively sporadic and generally unimpressive content updates here and there. The fact that ED's content is currently as shallow as it is doesn't help things, since a game's early playerbase has a significant influence on the size and health of its long-term community.

But, anyway. Time will tell.

I hear ya. Beta was great. Not sure what happened since gamma/release other than everything that was fun (for me) is gone or has been removed / diminished. I remember loving gamma 1.0 then the nerf next day (?) to rares and the constant "server side tweaks" to crank up the mindless grind. Played maybe 2hrs this past week total. Used to play 4+ hrs each night. Game is dead for me . No, it's not "burned out". It's tired of trying every single thing to it's end and realizing this game is nothing but dead ends. Those that like the endless repetition probably like Frappy Birds too.
