How many times have you been destroyed?

Let's make this a fun thread (or at least try). How long have you been playing and how many times have you "died" in that time? I'll start:

Playing since: June 2015
Number of deaths ("insurance claims"): 17
Total cost of deaths: ~100 million CR

In case you're wondering, you can find this data in the Codex / Commander / Statistics section.

Additionally, you can add the most memorable destruction if there's one. Mine was in a CZ where I went with my then-brand-new Corvette, all confident that it's essentially indestructible. Turned out it wasn't... the memorable part was that I saw it coming, the moment my shields were gone. I had too much trust in my armor only and by the time I decided to bail out I knew it was too late. It was the most painful "death" due to the sheer cost of the ship. Since then I engineered the s*** out of it just to be sure. :)

Main Xbox CMDR
Playing since: June 2015 (via GPP, couldn't get it earlier)
Number of deaths ("insurance claims"): 0
Total cost of deaths: 0 CR

PC Beta hoe Acct
This CMDR is still in the M67 cluster after distant stars 3303, although the "playing since" time might be impressive on this one, time in game is very minimal, but also 0 deaths as what happens in beta stays in beta !

^^ i havent logged into that one for 2 years i reckon?

Playing since: February 2018
Number of deaths ("insurance claims"): 71
Total cost of deaths: ~500 million CR

Smashed two days ago exiting station in paper thin long leg aspx with tens millions bounty credits onboard. After switching the ships, gone too fast, was distracted thinking about routes, missed mail slot, exploded in a second after hit.

I'd like two see some statistics in the game about lost bounty bonds. I lost a lot of them in the begining because 5% of hull in not engineered cobra but "yet another anaconda and will fly to repair after that".

Playing since: Premium Beta
Number of deaths: 17
Total cost of deaths: 39 million

Most of my deaths were in the first few months, with the rest over the next couple of years or so. I honestly can't remember the last time I died.

47 insurance claims for a total of 111,636,092cr over 1760 hours (or, as the Codex puts it: 10 weeks, 3 days, 7 hours and 48 minutes)
Been playing since May 2016

I don't remember all of them. Some notable deaths include:

  • Falling sideways into EAFOTS GL-Y E2 6 (Formidine Rift) in my paper thin Asp X
  • Being destroyed in my Anaconda for having a wanted passenger and being scanned (the only time I've been killed transporting a wanted passenger)
  • First time I fought a Cyclops in a Gunship
  • Defending a starport entry slot from a station ganker

And my first death...
- Running out of fuel in a Brown Dwarf system 3 jumps from the starting point in my Sidewinder within the first couple of days of playing, because my friend couldn't get to me in time. He told me about the Fuel Rats after that.

I’d say I’m nearly at 500 lol.

Average rebuy cost is relatively low, because a good number of those are from splattering myself against canyon walls in a souped up iEagle.

Lotta PvP deaths, and other silly things.

Doesn’t matter when you’re loaded lol.

Since 2018 January I have 45 insurance claims in worth 245 million credits. The best is still my new Conda's almost first undock, but have few more that I remember. One is happened for a achievement. We poked few security service vessels 'till ATRs arrived then of course killed us. Another one is a kiss with a White dwarf with passengers in my ship. Few ganking, few canyon wall hit and many in combat (I'm still horrible in pew-pew). Fortunately the rebuy cost isn't hurt at the moment. I'm only careful when one of my crew member is on board.

33 claims worth 192M so far, with 2 months 6 days 17 hours and 48 minutes game time (approx). I had gone so so so long without a claim, and then a couple of turds decided to make me their content on my return to Shinrata yesterday. Still, empty hold and billions in the bank, and my respawn point was where I was headed anyway... silver linings and all that jazz

Insurance claims 61
Total claim costs 190,607,611 Cr
Playing time approximately 28 weeks (from just after the Engineers update was released).

28 claims at a cost of roughly 75.3 million credits. I've been playing since just before Horizons launch.

Most memorable death was during dangerous games, when a member of SDC destroyed my ASP whilst I was transporting gems

I really have no idea or can't even be bothered to look, but I can say that I've hit the rebuy screen 3 times today. Loosing a ship is nothing to worry about.

I've died twice, both under suspicious circumstances.

The first time was ages ago, prior to engineers and planetary landings. I can't recall what ship I was in, but it was something like a Viper or maybe an iEagle- certainly a small ship. I'd just killed my enemy and I saw his ship explode in front of me and vanish - no wreckage chunks and no materials, they weren't part of the game yet. I flew through where he was, doing a bit of a victory roll, and suddenly the dead ship sequence was playing. Seems I hit something invisible and it insta-killed me. Wasn't going particularly fast, 100ms or so, hull was good (100%) and shields were up, still don't know what actually occurred. I assume the ship was gone for me but still there from the server's perspective, it's the only guess I have.

The second time, again very early-game, was when I got stuck in an interdiction loop but didn't realise it was a bug. I was flying my very expensive cargo to a station - literally a large percentage of my capital tied up in it, when I got interdicted. I was in a Type 6 at the time IIRC, and no weapons to speak of. I'd been unable to win the interdiction mini-game - apparently there was another bug affecting that at the time* - so I'd do the usual submit and boost. I'd take a couple of hits to my shield but I'd be able to engage my FSD again. I was low-waking - it didn't occur to me to high-wake, but then I doubt I had the fuel to spare - then speeding up, but every time I did this I was insta-interdicted again by the same NPC. This cycle continued until my shields were down - no recharge in SC, I wasn't in it long enough - and my hull started taking damage. My attacker was just fast enough to get a few hits on me before I boosted out of range and the insta-interdiction(unwinable) the moment I was in SC was the end really. So my ship was eventually destroyed. I didn't realise what was going on at the time, I just had the 4-3-2-1 count-down, entered SC then I was being interdicted again before I could do anything. I could have tried a high-wake, but that likely would have left me stranded lol.

* There are two Interdiction mini-game bugs I recall. The first you got no escape vector marker. It didn't show up and vanish, it was never displayed right from the start. You could try to just follow the tunnel, but it didn't seem to work. The second mini-game bug I recall was where you could win the game - i.e. your bar would top up to max - yet you'd still lose when it reached 100% I don't recall which bug I was trying to avoid at the time.

I'd had a few close calls of course, getting back with seconds to spare on low O2 with a cracked canopy - no O2 Synthesis back then - when I was flying certain ships, Vulture IIRC was quite bad for this. Generally though I play it pretty safe, pretending there are more consequences than just a rebuy. As a result, I'm quite cautious. Of course, since then I've gotten better ships and Engineering is a thing so my survivability is a lot better. I don't PvP, not my thing I prefer PwP - player with player teamed up, so I generally build reasonably shield-tanky loadouts so I have options. I did tinker with a "Combat Asp Explorer" a couple of months back just for fun, while playing with that I likely got closer to ship destruction than any other time - I was testing how long it could last after the shields had gone down as I'd done some light Hull engineering and supporting reinforcements. It was great fun fighting in that ship as I had to dodge, drop chaff and manage pips much more carefully. I guess I earned more in bounties than I paid for in repairs, so it all worked out :)

So, yeah, two deaths in total and a few close calls.

Scoob.

Around 35, but most of those were either way back in the day when I just got the game (and my xbox, to make things harder), or just me getting a little boost-happy.

I can easily recall losing a clipper because I thought that flying without flight assist in an asteroid belt was a good idea. I look away for .05 microseconds and suddenly I'm looking at a rebuy screen. Or this other time I was flying a dropship and may have tried to enter glide a little too fast. I thought "Eh, I'll just let gravity do the gliding for me". Oh, it did all right. Again, I go to briefly check on something, and come back to yet another rebuy screen.
Might want to keep that story in the back of your mind when approaching a planet in normal space...
