how many warnings for "canopy compromised" on a ASP?

Just got my first "canopy compromised" message on my latest exploration trip. Last time this happened I headed straight back, but at the moment I am in a neutron field hoping to scan my way to elite. I have heard somewhere that the first warning is not too much to worry about and that there is about 4 warnings before canopy is breached totally. I just have a couple of cracks and still 81% hull and enough ammo for my AFMU to repair all module damage. Currently 12-13 kylies out from civilisation but carrying lots of data must be over 3000 systems.

Questions are -
How "low" a hull is "safe to go" before I head back?

And - How many "canopy compromised" messages do you get before you head back?

I think with some careful piloting I can get down to about 60% hull before heading back or I can take 1 more "canopy compromised" message - but would that be considered too risky?

At the moment I am in a bit of a quandry, not sure to head back with this data and then head back out farming - or should I "gamble" and stay out get a few more high value neutron systems as it took so long to get to this field?

Thanks in advance for any help from more experienced explorers.

Canopy and Hull are not necessarily connected. If you get component heat damage, it may damage the canopy, but not the hull. You may need someone less careful to confirm, as I have only had canopy cracks from a bump, not from heat alone.

Well Im 18kylies out from Sol
86% Hull
Canopy has cracks from a run in with a neutron star and me spending too long in the map screen
1 AMFU emptied and the 2nd at halfway through the ammo.
I feel fine in staying out here a while longer yet.
Im only considering coming home soon as I want to be back before 1.3 goes live.
Dont want to come back and have issues like there were for explorers when 1.2 went live.
Plus I want to see what powerplay is all about.
I think though 1 more canopy cracking situation would see me turning round straight away, to be safe.

What issues when 1.2 went live? I wont be back for another month or so, I don't have a choice

The data selling issues, wasnt that after 1.2?
Constant crashes when selling data etc.
Also didnt some people have issues being able log in due to systems they were in being altered by the patch.
I just have this fear that Im going to log in out in deep space when 1.3 has gone live and find Ive lost all my data etc

seems like me and you are in similar positions Bacon Sarnie - think i will do the same one more crack and i'm heading back....

Glad I found this thread. I can relax a little now.

I got bored traveling to a water world last night and had the bright idea to pass the time with a couple of repairs.
Repairing the FSD while travelling in FS wasn’t the smartest thing I have done on the trip. Instantly dropped out of FS with the sound of the canopy cracking.
Just over 15k ly till I get home. But it seems it’s not the death sentence I thought I was going to be.

Better safe than sorry. Love the TSR2, by the way. I take it you have seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o53u0X0Ik0w I have seen TSR2 XR220as RAF Cosford.

Born 70, so desperate to be a pilot.
Poor colour perception and asthma, shot down in flames.
Horrible when you've spent so much time wanting something to be told you wouldnt even be allowed to be aircrew let alone a pilot :(

Hah, I did almost the same thing last night - I turned off thrusters while in FS, at least I was lucky enough not to crack the canopy. Then I nearly died by repairing my Life Support and forgetting to turn it back on afterwards (first time using the AFMU).

Of all the ways to die in space..

I think most of us explorers have done this move :) - makes you feel such a noob!

So anyone have any tales of endurance where they got back from 35 kylies away with cracks all over the canopy and 3% hull?

damn - looks like the "gamble" is over - :(
