Newcomer / Intro How to Detailed Surface Scan a ring for hotspots?

How do you fire a probe into the third ring out from a gas giant (one that has shepherd moons in between the second and third rings, and the third is quite far out)?

When I get close to the ring I am "too far for probe deployment" from the gas giant. If I go close to a shepherd moon I can't target the ring, but even if I can get close enough to one of the moons the ring seems too far away anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen a planet with 3 rings.

Some are simply out of range and can't be scanned. If you can't find an angle that works, then there's nothing you can do.

Fair enough. There's no way to artificially force it, say by jumping a Fleet Carrier in? (Probably not.)

That sounds like an oversight in programming that prevents you from launching probes at rings just because you may be too far away from the planet. That doesn't make sense.
Albeit a seemingly rare occurrence, might be worth reporting.
