How to dump data

Seriously - how can I get rid of the stuff? I used to be able to just dump whatever number of them I wanted to but I'm blowed if I can see how to do it now. Apparently I have 150 out of 150 aberrant shield thingies but there doesn't seem to be a way to dump some. Not a big deal I giess but I am getting a little tired of all the "full" messages.

There is now a separate storage for each kind of data and material, so you don't have to dump something to make room for something else. So devs probably didn't think it would be necessary to discard them.
You will have to learn to live with the messages, or visit a broker and change the thing you're full of for some other stuff you need.

Hopefully they will patch this in the future, I don't think it was properly thought through. It is mainly the data stuff that causes problems, simply locking onto a ship can cause your ships computer to automatically download data, with materials you can filter them from being collected.

I think all they would need to do is to simply ditch the "inventory full" messages. They have no use, in the new system.

You gotta wonder why they would remove useful functionality don't you? Seriously - why make the extra effort to remove that little bit of code? It doesn't make a lot of sense. It's true that now we have individual storage buckets for each item, but all this does effectively is increase the capacity overall - it does nothing else so why change perfectly good logic? Oh well, just another example of poor design choices. I'm so disappointed in them these days. I'm finding myself frequently in disagreement with the design choices being made - but, that's life I guess. I'm still a fan but really, some things just make you go "huh? what? why on earth?" Anyway, at least now I don't feel quite such a dummy since it appears there is no way provided to dump data. Thanks for the replies folks.

:S

All you need to do is go to a Trader and UP convert your excess whatever to something higher grade. No point dumping anything into space when all of it has value as a conversion to another material or data item.

Even if a capacity of G1 something only gets you a handful of something higher grade, that is more of that other stuff than you had before. :)

I think the new system works just fine, and the capacity alert (s) definitely serve a purpose for those who are using the new system properly.

I like knowing when I have capped out something, because I can go turn it into something else. The Limpets will also ignore any materials or data you have maxed, so there is also that new feature where while collecting stuff from a debris field they avoid/ignore collecting anything you have maxed out.

Nothing "Poor" about the design at all! You just aren't using it properly. If you are tired of seeing the alerts, then go do something about it!

The alert should just happen the first time you reach max, not every time you collecvt some after having reached max.

Then it'd be fine.

You will only get that warning if you are "Manually" attempting to put more of that whatever into your hold. The Limpets should be ignoring it, so its up to you to stop collecting stuff you don't need. ;)
