Bump due to people still ask how to fix the vr resolution problem on the Rift and the Vive.
The newest non-beta version of SteamVR is doing the same thing that the beta versions did, and wasn't fixed...for people who manually change their SuperSampling by editing the config file and putting in the following example line:
"renderTargetMultiplier" : 1.5,
if you then go into SteamVR options and change ANYTHING your value will often automatically be rounded up...from 1.5 to 2.0 in the config file in this example. I think merely playing some games will also round up the number. This will cause lower framerates and stuttering if your graphics card can't handle the higher SuperSampling value...I was hoping it would be fixed in beta before it went live but it looks like it wasn't.
Not sure if this will affect anything

FYI I've fixed the super sampling setting on the latest version of the EDProfiler tool.
Also, I have no idea why you'd turn SS down with a 1080! Just leave it at 1.0 and set the pixel density to 1.7 or whatever you feel most comfortable with.
I'm kind of lost pls help, so this "1.0 in game" when I have the HMD on I just look in settings while in ED and I should see it? Same goes for this "1.5 in SteamVR" where do I go to change this value? My question is really where do I find these values and how do I change them?

UPDATE 8/12/16: I have found the BEST software for recording VR gameplay to be Mirillis Action! I'm now able to record 1080p 60FPS footage, stream to Twitch and play in VR at the same time without any issues.![]()
Can you share your setup for these recordings?
And thank you for your time and this great guide.
I must say I cannot.I can vouch for 1.0 in game and 1.5x in SteamVR is far better than 0.65 in game and 2.0x in SteamVR. Anyone who doubts it, set them and screenshot the monitor preview and compare the 2... I settled on 1.0 in game and 1.7x in SteamVR.
