How to get Elite in VR looking CRYSTAL CLEAR.:D

Oh right, well those settings get overridden every time you start Elite so it doesn't matter what they are set to :)

Yes, it gets reset to 'windowed' every single time, which is annoying because it ruins my vids if I don't change it to 'full screen'. I was just wondering what 'borderless' had to offer. But this is turning into a de-rail, sorry!

Nothing, I just didn't even look at those settings when I created my VR profile

People are talking about running SS at .5 and HMD Quality at 2 (0.5 x 2=1).

Isn't this the same as running SS at 1 and HMD Q at 1 (1 x 1=1)?

Running the game at SSx1 and HMD x1 lead to less artifacts, if any, for me

Yeah I agree. Would love to run it super sampled, but the artifacts, specially in menus got to me in a wired way. At the end to night i was playing it on SS 1 and HMD Q at 1. Dont know if there will be less artifacts ifi fully double the SS (uo to 2x). Maybe the wired resulutions that happen when using 1.25 etc cause the artifacts? No science behind this btw.

Anyway, i got my first vulture to night! Those windows look amazing in vr. o7

Edit: just learned that it probaly is ASW that is causing the graphical issues. I will have to look into turning that off.

Does the ED profiler improve results with the Vive, or is it just for the Rift?

ED profiler doesn't improve performance. It's a mean to allow the user to have presets graphics profiles for ED. (for example to start the game on monitor instead of the HMD).

It will work because it is not related to the VR HMD but with the game graphics settings.

It allows also to easily change the hud colors and to increase the drawing distance above the ingame settings too.

Give it a try, it's a nice tool

This goes back to before we had HMD Quality settings in Elite, and Supersampling was done via SteamVR.

New Vive user here, trying to unblur elite a bit, and got a couple of questions/doubts:

1. I'm reading through the thread, and if I understood correctly: OP info is outdated, and using DrKaii's profiler with settings as his screenshot is a good place to start the tweaking. Is this right?

2. I found this post on reddit about tweaking some stuff in the nVidia control panel. It's a year old post, but, it left me wondering if is this necessary, or are there any tweaks that make the game look better.

3. How the hell do you navigate galaxy map in VR??!?!?! [wacky][wacky][wacky]

Thanks in advance :)

I'm in the same position (though coming back to ED with Vive after a year) and have exactly the same queries.

Also, am I better off running ED through Steam, or booting it up via the desktop ED starter?

The only thing outdated there is Chaperone tool. You're far better off using OpenVR advanced settings and setting Application supersampling there.

Basically the crucial settings are: Application Supersampling to at least 1.2 in OVR Adv.Sett. and HMD Quality to at least 1.25 in Elite's settings. The rest is up to tweaks.

Also the Reprojection options are now in normal steamvr, so you don't have to use the beta, though it is encouraged anyway by nearly everyone including steam/htc...
Make sure Interleaved reprojection is set to OFF, and enable "always on" and asynchronous reprojection.

That's about it.

PS: regarding the galmap in VR TL; DR is: use a HOTAS or gamepad, not a mouse. Also galaxy map is currently broken after 2.3 release so you might want to check the 2.3 known issues page on the forum.

Thanks for your answer! But, aren't openvr's application supersampling and elite's supersampling the same thing? If they're not, which elite supersampling should I use with this config?

For now, with the testing I've done, the most confortable setting I've found is SS 0.75 and HMD 2.0, both of them changed inside elite. I haven't tried openvr advanced settings. But I'll try!

1. Elite SS is inefficient, you're advised to keep it at 1 or lower.
2. Elite SS is different than OVR one, the later is applied to ALL VR titles.
3. I prefer Elite SS @1, OVR @ 1.2 and HMD @ 1.25. That's what keeps the framerate manageable (it WILL drop in stations), and looks good IMHO. Your mileage may vary. There are also diminishing returns after certain point.

PS: Get OVR, it's great and has many uses. It can also be used with Revive Dashboard.
