How to implement ship interiors without breaking the game.

I have said this before, what a complete waste for (what I assume is huge) Dev time for some minor eye candy. After walking round inside a ship once, why on earth will you want to keep walking round it? (All available controls are in the one pilots HUD in any case, I don't want to walk to Sensors console, Nav Console, Comms console, AT ALL)

Give us NPC fighter pilot in spare seats in the cabin though, that is a different issue, just by using cabin cameras to see my companion (it already works for wing mates isn't it?)
(I would also keep the cabin at a very warm 26C, to ensure we all don't need thermal/padded space suits!)
Why arent you mad about carrier interiors then. We can do the same thing from the management screen. Why would we ever want to go command the jump from the bridge. If you are mad about ship interiors carrier interiors must also be "a waste of dev time"

No matter what comes from this, at least we have another thread asking for ship interiors! With another few more, it might even warrant creating a dedicated sub-forum. Make it rain boys and girls!

"Option to teleport remains for "quick access"."

Teleport time would have to equal the minimum amount of time required to enter/exit each model of ship.

"Why arent you mad about carrier interiors then. We can do the same thing from the management screen. Why would we ever want to go command the jump from the bridge"

Fleet Carriers are jumpable stations, They are also entirely optional.

don´t get me wrong, i would love to get ship interiors.
but lets be true here, there are bigger fish to fry.
like someone mentioned, ship exteriors for example.
the anaconda is the only ship with a damage model.
i´d rather have them working on unfinished features than introduce new ones that will inevitable end the same way like the previous ones

Well thats crazy. They are a better investment than most things. Its truly insane how people can walk everywhere EXCEPT ships they spend 80%+ of their time in. It would make exploration much more fun (having a in ship social space, manually boarding an SRV, a seamless transition from in ship to on foot not a half baked unimaginative mediocre teleport).
I object to the inference that not wanting interiors is insane.

To me, this is the implementation of a "useless transition". That means that, once you have experienced it to the point of ignoring it, it becomes a time sink. Any game where you Must transition territory even though that territory has no value just to play becomes inherently more frustrating.

Ship interiors as proposed here have no long term value. They are a short term benefit that becomes a detriment.

I agree with this but insides can have game play meaning especially when it comes to exploration. Like new optional internals for exobiology. (Science lab to do things with your plants and increase their data value) fixing your power plant ( the module that can 1 shot you, unable to be repaired without starport or carrier) a drop bay for on foot CZs, ship tuning (interact with a panel and get a bit more performance from your ship for a short time) walking out of your ship (we have legs why cant we use them?)
Hmm, sound like Mass Effect, ME2 and ME3.
With a ship full of crew, you had a scientist doing research in Lab, the armoury was doing research into improving guns and a doctor in Med Bay doing research (all to unlock side missions/power ups/better weapons/engines/etc.) AND selectable crew for away missions. Its been done before, and probably way better than any new DLC for ED could.

AND ALL ME games were on ALL platforms.
IIRC you had to WALK around on different decks and a lift even to get to the galaxy map to navigate the ship !.

This would be a whole new game, but ED is 7 years old already (OK, 5 on PS4), and is in its autumn years to me (fall for US players).
So unless there is major investment in ED by FDev, I can only see small DLC's/updates.

EDIT: And by the way 'Gordon Freeman', I played Half Life (so know GMAN), and also the brilliant Homeworld on a base PC but with a v good GPU, but I don't have a great gaming PC at the moment and totally love my PS4, so I want EDO on consoles not super duper PC only.
Other publishers do it no problem, why cant FDev????????????????????????????????????????????

These modules i suggest would act more as "workbenches" than anything negating the need for a crew. Solo piloted ships are a major lore thing in elite (ourside of capital ships) so it would be a station you can go to and do your task. Nav would be from pilot seat still, and yes you would have to spend the extra 3 seconds getting to the bridge on foot.

Elite Dangerous, Elite Dangerous Horizons - games about ships.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey - game not about ships.
Huge resources invested in a dead branch (EDO) that was not about ships.

For FDEV to engage in a huge expense to develop interiors and related gameplay mechanics with this iteration of the game seems unlikely.

One has to wonder, with the current state of FDEV stock, the communications blackout, the projects in the pipeline (and the scope of their broad appeal/profitability), if we are looking at some sort of reorganization / reprioritization in the near future.

Given that this is just around the corner,

I think we will enter into a phase of turd polishing with EDO, some story arc CG engagement - and essentially a maintenance phase.

My hopes are for Elite Deadly several years from now.

I think FDEV learned a bunch from this project, can't really fix it given the engine/PC min spec/and console hamstringing (not to mention the GPU / HOTAS shortages making upgraded PCs currently out of reach).

Ship interiors and related mechanics would be great, but we won't be seeing them this time around.

Don't give up DB! We can wait for a fully integrated package - including ship interiors.

Yeah thats my guess. Elite deadly in a couple years will be made with earth likes and ship interiors as a design feature. The current engine would just stop existing if they attempted it. Tbh i say stop major dev on Elite dangerous (outside of critical fixes) and work on the next game armed with what you learned from this one imagine if they really got proc gen to a great level (its got the potential they were experimenting with full proc gen cities) and had ELWs Gas giants for fuel scooping, water worlds, ship, station and carrier interiors cities, on foot AX, multiple new vehicles suitable for new planets (ship deployable boats, submarines, land vehicles, aircraft) actual animals and trees, forests. Weather on planets. ON A GALAXY SCALE with all the current systems fleshed our this would need a fundamental change in engine design. A new game is required for this.

I 100% disagree. You are content with the teleport? Thats the insane thing

I like the teleport from a time management perspective. It gives me more time between flight and foot to pull back out my HOTAS and get the keyboard out of the way.

Other than that, I would much rather walk through my ship (or take a lift on large ships like the Corvette, Type-9/10, and Conda).

Ok compromise. U can go to the blue ring to TP or go to your entry/exit point to walk to your seat. I use only mouse and keyboard but a compromise like this would be ok.
