Never had a problem with a good rant post, most of the time they are not only entertaining to read but also about the only thing worth reading, unless of course you have a strong stomach and are immune to some of the over zealous butt licking that takes place here.
I will confess I do skip the ones that are just "lets bash FD for no other reason but to bash FD" as per "FD can do no wrong".

Lets consider my post a first draft, and since I haven't written many rant posts I could only go off what I have read. I do agree with the your suggestion regarding the Guides, might I be so humble to add a few more to your excellent list:
- Game Comparison: Proving another game is superior through conjecture and mis-information
- Decease Equine Torture: Never giving up on that one minor aspect that annoys you
- Going Solo: How to create your own thread about a topic that is mentioned in every other post
