Now why would you want to do that I hear you ask. The simple answer is not available, but here's two that I need it for.
Hosting a multicrew session so your mates can use SLFs, and still be able to fly in your own.
Doing wing run & fetch missions when your mates are in bed to multiply profits.
Anything else you can think of.
So how do you set up your PC to run two commanders from two accounts at he same tme (Sorry console guys but sadly this is likely only possible on PCs.)?
First you need to make sure of where your files are.
You will likely have three folders to look for and some are in a hidden system folder under your accout name. Especially those of you that have mutiple users on your machines.
Mine are located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments
This should work for Windows 7 and higher but you may need to replace the C: drive for your system drive letter.
So first off you need to locate your "Products" folder. Mine was in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Products
Once you have this make sure you move it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products by dragging and dropping it into C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch
Next you can run the Elite Dangerous setup file again make sure to download a new one from your new account.
When the downloader begins make sure that you select a different folder to load the new commander into. I chose
C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch2
After the program has finished downloading run the launcher from the new folder and set up your new commander.
It should be somewhere like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch2\EDLaunch.exe"
Exit the program and follow the same instructions as before to ensure that the Products folder is also in the new
C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch2 folder or whatever you named it to.
You will probably find it has been re-instated to the same place you found it before.
Now copy the shortcut to the first instance or open the properties for the shortcut of the new instance and make sure that the locations in there reflect the new folders you installed comander No 2 into.
Finally: If you have any controller customisations you will need to copy these to the relevent locations in the new account. Any HUD custom colours should be ok
If you don't have custom controller bindings files and have edited your controller in "Options" go to my tutorial on How to preserve your precious custom controller bindings and follow the intructions in there.
And Voila.
First you open the launcher window for commander No 1 and hit "Play"
Then you close launcher window 1 and open the launcher window for commander No 2 and hit play
Now you have two commanders open at the same time. From here you can Alt-Tab to switch or use "Options" ->> "Graphics" to move one to a secondary monitor for this session.
Note that if you moved one of the commanders to a secondary display, before you exit both screens you will need to reset the "Options" ->> "Graphics" for that commander to the Primary Display or when you start up next time both commanders will start in the Secondary Display.
Fly safe Commanders.
