How to tell if system is discovered without all the hassle

Again with the newbie questions.

Is there a way to tell if a system is completely undiscovered without having to throttle down and start the FSS? Any way one can tell simply by honking (I'm assuming that means using the discovery scanner) - or by any other methods? As every other newbie I desperately want to get my name on a system. It's slightly annoying to have to throttle down and open FSS and all that in every system.

Hints?

In the Galaxy map when the system is selected, the system icon on the right will tell you if someone has been before and cashed in the discovery, because there is a map of the system.

Your holo display on your ships control panel will show planets if its been scanned before.

If nothing is there immediately on system entry its unexplored

PS: You do not have to throttle down to "HONK" a system, just bind the "discovery scan" control to a fire group. Mine is my secondary trigger, usually fires guns but not in exploration HUD mode. o7

Cheers! That helped a bit. So basically - if there is no system data, the system has not (yet) been cashed in to universal cartographer-thing? But I've still come across countless systems where that holds true (no system map available or some such), and still, upon entering, every single body is "first discovered by ...."?

When it comes to the honking part - if my sole goal were to be mapping a completely new system, there would not even be a need for honking if i spot planets in the holo display upon entering the system? This would only be useful for scanning bodies and selling data?
