HTC Vive resolution and  focus

"Some loss in resolution, quality/focus on the HTC Vive?" Understatement of the century. How about "sorry our product is completely unwatchable and unplayable at the moment" until it's fixed TBD even running on of the line hardware and the latest drivers, etc.
Funny, I'm playing on a Vive, Ultra settings with excellent results. The only issue is fuzzy text and a color change on my HUD fixed that for the most part.

You do have 2x 980TI card which I assume is in SLI mode and probably the cause of your jitter and stability issues. That isn't a Frontier issue, take it up with your graphics card manufacturer. The easy solution is to remove one card and try it without the SLI.

Oops, sorry. I just realized I may have to shout as you are way up on that high horse.

Wow, i'm having to work, so i'm unable to check the new Beta5 at the moment, but i'm quite surprised nobody here has been able to test and give feedback on the new build and the newUI scale feature, whatever that may entail.. c'mon, let us know if we're looking any better...

Unfortunately, I work for a living, which means I won't get home for another four hours. An hour to download and do some cleaning, and another hour to cook and eat supper, then I'll be able to play... for an hour. Gotta be at work for 5am to prepare fir a VIP visit. :(

OK, yet another report from the VR newbie at the dock. ;)
(snip)
Steam VR is the engine that runs the Vive. Turn it off and there is no HMD. Source: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=236794&page=5

See the last part of the post about how to report the issues, then report them.

The more data they get the faster a fix will be made.

As for your specific issues, you can reset the HMD with F12 to position it better, brightness and HUD brightness can be controlled through graphics settings (or try different colors), the AA is being worked on.

For me right now, the only issue is fuzzy text and I can mitigate that almost completely with a color change to my HUD. See this thread here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=251324

Cheers and good luck finding solutions.

Looks like they've moved the left and right UI panels, which makes them a little easier to read. They may have done something to the text to improve it, too as I think it's more readable. Shimmering is still there.

Elite: Dangerous can run without actually starting Steam VR, which is what I've been doing. If you do this, two of the four services that Steam VR runs are loaded, while the other two are not. In my experience, with only those two services running, issues like scaling, God rays, and many anti-aliasing artifacts are not present, or greatly reduced. With all four services running, these complaints arise. Not sure why this is the case, but the effect is noticeable.

- Provide a graphics option to adjust UI scale in VR with a maximum and default of 0.7 for Vive and 1.0 for Oculus

I was unable to find this option in beta 5. Seems I'm to stupid to find it - anyone?

So I tried Beta 5 out now and the text and line aliasing artifacts are MUCH better for me. I first tried it with a fresh boot without starting steamvr and was surprised about the new clarity. Then I rebooted and started steamvr before running the game - still looking good, no visible difference.

There still is some aliasing but it's manageable and to be expected. But the screens are MUCH more readable now. Target indicators, all looking great now.

Beta 5 fixed the game for me.

I am still seeing the shimmer and that for me is the major issue. It makes the game very hard on my eyes where I could play the DK2 for hours. I also can not find the new UI option.

I have the same where to find this options ???

but I'm testing on 1.6 mission beta 5, don't have beta access to Horizons.

well, I will not say "MUCH" rather slighty better..

Framerate in Vive in many places is about 1/20th (or worst) of what I get in regular 1080p. I know it's rendered on a higher resolution but still, there's too much difference in performance.
Text is barely readable, and only if I move my face really close to it.
Graphics are horrendous, with low resolution and lots of aliasing.
And I'm running an i7 4790k@4.5Ghz, 32GB@2.6Ghz, single ASUS Strix 980, all with a good motherboard and power supply. So it's not an SLI problem obviously, and the devs agreed there is a problem (look at the OP) so please don't tell us it's "working fine" because it obviously isn't. Maybe you have less expectations than most of us; I'd respect that... but it's not "working fine", not even close.
And this doesn't mean I don't appreciate the efforts of Frontier to develop a fix. I'm happy if we get a text readibility fix in 2.1, knowing they're still working on the rest of the issues.

Not sure what more you want me to say. I have a less powerful cpu and a less powerful gpu than you do. My frame rate is perfectly fine, even on ultra. Only time I have to drop the settings a bit is if I land on a planet. The only time I see any slowdown in the main game is if SLI is enabled. Then it turns into a judder fest (as do most VR games).

Text is blurry and I am looking forward to that being fixed. But not to the extent you are reporting. You are lucky you didn't try the DK2.

text slightly improved, I think. Less fuzziness but still the shimmer. I can't find the UI scale slider either

VR Low: Green Hud.

Where the hell is this setting?! The audio one is in a config file, so i'm guessing this is somewhere in a config file too?! ....DEVS????

Well, the good news is they fixed Elite: Dangerous with SteamVR running. It looks just as good as it does when I don't load SteamVR first. Scaling issues gone, god rays and anti-aliasing artifacts are reduced, and the text is much clearer. An overall improvement.

The bad news is that IMO Elite: Dangerous without SteamVR loaded looked better in the last patch. Text was slightly sharper, god rays were almost non-existent, and there were less anti-aliasing artifacts than there are now. I now find myself leaning towards the panels (where's this new setting?) sometimes to make some of the text out.

There's still room for improvement, Frontier! I know you can do it!

Great news! Did you notice any improvement in performance? Particulary inside stations or when driving on a planet?

Gotta say, I'm totally confused with all this. I mean beta5, if it made any improvement then they are such that they weren't noticeable for me. But people are talking about the issues being "fixed"?

I've always loaded with SteamVR running, but using the ED Launcher directly.

I use green HUD. I have a `GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml` but it has nothing in it except the green colour matrix setting. I am using an Nvidia GTX 980M.

I haven't noticed any issues, frame rate or tracking wise, yet, so it's hard to say.

If you're confused, imagine how Frontier must feel. Hundreds of different hardware combinations, all altering how the software works with the Vive.

It's only one guy opinion, meybe he changed IPD accidently , nothing really changed in beta 5 , they promise UI scale in change log but my guess is that DEVs do not implemented it yet! I'm really confused , no one can find this option in graphics settings...
