Huge decline in console player numbers, Hull Seals consider disclaimer & drop support.

Now that that is sorted can we concentrate on statistics:

No you are right, I am going to leave it alone now anyway :)

To be fair, I think @Bottom Hat was trying to explain something to me with some of that ;-).

You seem to be pressing all sorts of buttons, for all sorts of people (people who don't usually get so riled up). It might be advantageous to reflect upon why.

Regardless, I might be careful not to push the mod's patience too far.

Yup, you are spot on mate, but picking whatever suits seems to be an MO that is trendy! To be honest you do a lot better than me at dealing with this chap, but I'm going off previous experience with the fellow as well ;)

In any case, I'm going to leave him to his crusade now as he won't even answer my legitimate questions (plus I'm a bit bored of it really). Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not really an evil swine for pointing out flaws in the conclusions, appreciate it mate.

Statistical and anecdotal evidence from larger player groups such as The Hull Seals and The Fuel Rats (Source: links in OP) appear to show a steady drop in console CMDR numbers.
No, our statistics do NOT show a steady drop in console CMDR numbers. C.f this post earlier in the thread, on number of rescues in July.

Ruled Out/Irrelevant

- No clear pattern associated with the month or season. (Source: Colonia collated data from the wonderful web site of @Ian Doncaster )
I'll bite on this one... That is a truly limited dataset that only encompasses the players who have made it there and or decide to play there, which is quite a commitment in itself no? I personally have not been to Colonia, although it is on my list of things to do, but hanging out there, isn't.

While I don't have specifics, charts, etc... , just from the anecdotal data of playing MMO's for over 20 years, I can say with confidence that the number of players online during summer months, barring some huge game event to drag them back in, is generally much lower than most other times of the year. Nov/Dec are also fairly low, because of the holidays and all. That said, I am not fully aware of the age groups, income brackets, etc of the average ED player, which may in fact vary considerably from most other games, which generally attract a diverse range of player types. If ED is most played by middle-older aged folks, then yes, they do tend to be considerably more stable players than say school age or those starting families.

I can also say that Covid had a huge impact in my other game. We jumped from an average of 10% of our guild members online, to 20%... or even more on many occasions during the pandemic. My guild I base this off of is generally between 425-500 members.

Colonia is a thriving community. I don't agree that the meticulously collated BGS and traffic data from there is limited to any great extent, and therefore cannot be used to attempt to draw conclusions about player behaviour within the context of the wider player community. If you've not already done so I'd heartily recommend a read about the Colonia census: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...raphy-resource-for-the-colonia-region.398547/

Are you saying the graph linked in the OP, attributed to The Fuel Rats, showing a decline in the number of successful rescues on PlayStation since the start of the year, is wrong?
Curious, how do those charts indicate in any way shape or form... how many people are actually playing the game? The only thing it indicates, is there are simply less people with LTP issues playing the game during those downturns.

I think it'd be naive at best to suggest that's the only thing it indicates.
The only thing the graph illustrates is that a relatively constant number of rescues have been undertaken since the starting point of the graph, bar some outliers that should probably be filtered out to better tell any greater trends. Also, the graph shows that the Rats have been active more on all platforms lately. That's cool, they are doing well.

Well, if the average numbers of PS Players in Colonia is still about normal.
Either they’re all playing PG, Solo, they’ve left Colonia or they’ve put the game aside.

I used to see 2-3 different CMDRS pretty much every session in Open.

I have not seen a single CMDR in Open since May 26th.

I know this is not a statistic, and I know Colonia is not really the hive of scum and villainy we’re all used to.

It’s no Deciat/Shin Dez on PS, pretty much guaranteed to see a CMDR at those.

Not contesting that they're doing a good job. Look at the PlayStation numbers closely. There's a clear decline. Maybe as someone else said though, PS CMDRs are just that much more fuel conscious since the Odyssey delay was announced in January?!

I have a similar experience in and around Shin Des and the CG systems.

All doom and gloom aside... I am actually curious about what happened last October?

Also, since there seems to be a fairly steady increase in player numbers... I suspect like me, many of those are new, play solo for now, may not be using the 3rd party tools, and are not participating in activities (like PVP and making it to Colonia), that only players who have been around for quite a while (but may have moved on) do. Also, since game numbers seem to be climbing overall, not sinking, maybe my previous conjecture that console players are moving over to PC is valid?
