Huge decline in console player numbers, Hull Seals consider disclaimer & drop support.

Well, there’s definitely less playing on PS4 around Colonia.

In 2020, every single session I would see at least 1-2 commanders in each of the more popular systems such as Colonia, Coeus, Luchtaine, Asura etc.
Last night (I know it’s just one night... & needs more testing and a check at the weekend) I was at Jaques in Colonia for a long while, no one, I was at Mel’s in Luchtaine for a while, no one, I was at Petra’s in Asura for a while, no one.

The last CMDR I saw in Open in this nebular region was back on the 26th of May.

I’m on and play ELITE roughly 1-2 nights a week on PS now, down from my usual 4-5 nights a week from 2020 and before.

All I get from that graph with regard to console players and their calls to the Fuel Rats is that it's a very low number and has remained consistantly low for the last twelve months. For PC players however, it really jumped up for a time when the game was given away free last year and then again, to an understandably lesser degree, when Odyysey was released for purchase. Also, presumably a large proportion of those Odyssey players then headed to populated systems to gather guns and suits, and so aren't out in distant parts of the galaxy running out of fuel.

Honestly though, I'm of the opinion now that if it's a choice between a badly ported version of Odyssey on console with a whole heap of issues I'd rather they didn't bother. The attraction of Elite is flying ships and whilst I can see that Odyssey will be worth playing after some more work is done, it's not like I'm going to be short of FPS games to play on PS5.

It would be a shame if it turns out that way, but if it can't be done without turning more of the player base away from the game while stuff is fixed, is it worth it? Sure, not being able to bring major DLC to console would make me never touch a Frontier Developments game again in case the same thing happened, but I'm just one person so they're hardly losing sleep over that.

Some acknowledgement on this PS5 crashing would go a long way for me. It's frustrating.

I've also found as I posted in the PlayStation forum after playing on PC a few weeks something is amiss with the PlayStation network code. I know Elite isn't great generally when it comes to instancing but, I've had a much better experience in Open on PC than on PS4/PS5.

As is referenced here: https://hullseals.space/knowledge/books/important-information/page/on-the-future-of-the-seals

PlayStation is hit largest. I believe this is largely due the fact that there is no clear indication of when Odyssey will be available, coupled with Frontier not implementing 4K support for ED on the PS5 (now the only platform without a 4K option).

Frontier need to do something to revive the console player-base, and fast.

FDEV will do nothing because they have no clue how to develop the game further. I assume their code is a total mess and their best devs left the sinking boat. Better move on.

Nobody ever got happy attending statistics classes, my friend. Ask me how I know.

I hear you, statistics hours were the worst. Couldn't even concentrate on my crosswords, that teacher was so annoyingly loud!

(You might think that's cheap irony, but the irony is that it isn't irony at all. Ask me how I never took a degree. 🤭 )

You first. Door's over there.

But it's a sinking boat, door opens up on nothing and the water is so cold!
