The release date shouldn't be announced untill the servers go down for the actual update..

Reason?

The new crime system means everyone will have all their bounties/crimes wiped when 3.0 goes live. If the date is announced then the day before is gonna be like 'the purge' - complete mayhem ANYTHING GOES!! Madness & chaos. Murder Death Kill with no consequence's!!

In Open possibly, but a lot of people play in Mobius/Fleetcomm or other non combat group or in Private Groups / Solo.

It's only a small percentage of the ED community that would engage in such mayhem, even in Open. So I think you are catastrophising the event beyond what is reasonable.

It's not that big of a deal in the current game anyway. All bounties are over in a week. No matter what you do now there is never any incentive to pay them off. In other words it's a free for all right now.

On the other hand, it would be kind of fun to see the outcry which would happen if all the commanders were required to pay all their legacy fines from years ago after this update.

Play in Solo or PG. No problem. Let those who wish to make the end of 2.4 an extinction event play with themselves.

Er, that didn't come out quite right, but you know what I mean.

The go back to Open if that is your play style after 3 drops.

Well no. The people who would go on murder sprees are already going on murder sprees regardless. The punitive aspects of the current C&P are neither a limiting factor nor a deterrent, so the prospect of having your 7-days bounties wiped wont cause a surge in crime or murderhoboing.

What you seem to ignore is that if the date will be announced in advance, then both sides will know about it.
