"Hull Breach Attack" and dead in 5 seconds or less....

Although I've been playing Elite for a number of years, I'm more of a casual player and don't consider myself much of a combat pilot. I'll play around with PvE and do fine, but I'm sure I'd get rocked playing PvP. I do a little engineering, but probably don't put the best builds together.

That being said, currently working on the CG outside of Onyx Bastion (solo / private group play). This is now the fourth time in about 30 minutes of play time that I've received the "hull breach attack" warning and had my ship from 100% shield to rebuy screen in about 5 seconds. I've never had that happen so quickly and I'm not sure how to prevent it. Running with a Corvette, military grade composites w/ thermal resistance and deep plating, armoured power plant, 7A shield generator with reinforced shields, a bunch of hull / module reinforcements, a bunch of shield boosters, and a 7A shield cell bank that I don't even have an opportunity to use because of how quickly I blow up...

Maybe I'm just in a situation where I'm out of my league with the build I have, but it's so frustrating to feel like I don't even stand a chance. Any suggestions or explanations would be appreciated!

You can if you fit a ship with things like smart shell canons so that you cannot accidentally the station. Downside is reduced damage upside is weapons free.

Welp.... Excuse my ignorance - I think it was a matter of letting stray shots hit the megaship, and they weren't too happy with it. I've been extra careful to avoid hitting the ship in the background, and haven't had it happen again
Happened to me as well a couple of times, in a fully engineered Python Mk2 until i figured this out.
It doesn't help if the NPC's sometimes dash for the megaship, then you just have to wait for them to turn and come back.
One would think they do it on purpose to make you shoot the megaship/station.

Certainly it does feel like that with the NPCs breaking off periodically to make attack runs on the megaship before returning to the general fray, but it's not to lure you per se.

Fire at will…..with turreted weapons, may also not be 100% safe. Run away if you hear shield generator attack.
Fire at will is never safe, best case it splits your fire over multiple targets so not doing enough damage to any of them. Target Only not only concentrates fire but provides you with more ways to stop them shooting.

Well the runs at 50-60% hull remaining might be a lure but the ones around 10% and or with drives destroyed don't involve any sort of return to the fray unless you get in front of them in which case they open fire again.

Funny thing is that don't they shoot the station on their "attack run"...

Easy come easy go. No shortage of targets.
