I accepted a hunt mission, the target field was blank so i figured I could just kill anything in the system. That doesn't seem to be the case, is the target field being blank a bug or am I missing something?

That sounds like a bug. How much did they offer you for the mission?

OK, well the person asking you to abandon the mission is from another system, so your target is likely to be one of these three: pirates, traders or bounty-hunters.
Drop in to the nav beacon at LHS 3447 and kill a few pirates (or bundle in with the sysauth ships killing wanteds). If the bugged target is pirates, killing two of them might complete the mission. Once yo have a ship in your sights and it starts scanning it, look at the ship allegiance in the display on the left of the scanner - Union of LTT18486 Confederacy ships are the target. Make sure they're wanted before you engage, or the sysauth ships will turn on you sharpish.
You have the requisite two posts now, so you can post images. Use the links on the right of the image in Imgur (or at the bottom, where it says "get image links") and find the BBCode links.

i have some issues with hunter missions aswell, after mission updates that give "kill x on behalf of y" i cant seems to find neither of the targets in the designated systems, flying for over an hour intercepting every single USS finding only friendly ships and random encounter funerals, tech aquisition etc... i thought doing that missions now that i got some skills against condas will be fun and profitable, but in the end its even more boring and time wasting that hauling..
