Hyperspace Lore Document back online

Good observations! I'm afraid you'll have to wait for my articles on the Federation, Empire, Alliance and Galcop as the answer is political, not technological. Galcop definitely did exist however. I hope to cover in-system drive technology at a future point. :)

Cheers,

Drew.
Looking forward to all of these articles! :)

My own hyperspace lore doc is back online after a hiatus. Enjoy, CMDRs!

Hi Drew,
Good stuff. I hope though that FD enhance the PvE aspects of ED by bringing back more details and options to jump drives/FSD like they have done with White Dwarfs. Military drives and fuel and mis-jumps, Thargoid interdictions etc. from past games would also be welcome.

It just seems way, way too easy to travel to the other side of the galaxy right now (apart from the time it takes to jump and scoop and thus, boredom).

One thing that disappoints though, is a lack of really firm statement on how the FSD works. My understanding was Hyperspace was gone and FSD was an analogue of 'Alcubierre' drives that simply compress space-time, like folding up a rug or sheet of paper to make two distant points just a step away. In this way both local travel at super-luminal speeds as well as more massive inter-stellar jumps were accomplished by the same drive, but just at two distinct levels/settings.

That approach seems at least plausible, even if impossible.

Maybe you can influence and/or clarify with FD what the official cannon is and get it really clear. The water seems a bit muddy to me at the moment.

I find the idea of "hyperspace tunnels" to be too vague to hang my hat on. They could be the "compressed space-time" of Alcubierre, just writ large. Or they could be magic fairy dust. Since FD have spent a lot of time trying to make the game science match or give a verisimilitude of realism, it is a bit disappointing they may result to pure magic for the formal lore on FSD operation.

And if FD is going to invoke some manner of the truly ridiculous Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, string theory or other religions of the new physicists that have abandoned reality, Newton and Maxwell, then I will be sad and incredibly disappointed (though it is just a game, so there's that).
