I am desperate, please help - DK2 and Portrait mode - Nvidia

I just received my DK2, I have looked online and gone through some of the forums for "extra's" setup. Everywhere says to set the DK2 in the nvidia control panel to portrait mode. I select the DK2 and change it to portrait mode. When I launch Elite dangerous and try to change the display to secondary monitor (dk2) and hit apply, elite dangerous shows in the DK2 sideways completely. When it times out and reverts back, I can alt-tab out and my nvidia settings are set back to Landscape mode for the DK2.

I have the Oculus set in extended desktop mode, I completed the config utility, I have set the vsync on and changed some of the other settings listed in the threads. I cannot for the life of me figure out why "Portrait" mode will not stick for the DK2.

Is there something I am missing?

When I left the nvidia settings for the Rift as landscape, and instead went into the windows 7 pro x64 screen resolution window, I set the Oculus to portrait mode there. When I try to set the graphics over to the Rift (Oculus speakers, or Oculus headphones in the 3D settings) I see nothing on the oculus, but then I can see a little window on my main monitor that reflects what I SHOULD be seeing on the DK2. If at that point I try to click the Win+Shift+left, it sends the display to the oculus, but then its sideways again.

Any help at all will be appreciated.

My specs:
Win 7 x64
Raid 0 SSDs
Titan X GPU
i7 Intel cpu

Do your screens look like this, from what i remember it's important which side you have the Rift positioned compared to your main monitor

Then apply settings, hope it helps

Yeah, I didnt have the Rift on the left, and when I put it there, I could see the extended desktop in the rift headset, but the same issue with Elite :( - I just cant get it to work in the DK2 properly...Anyone else with a Titan X GPU that uses the rift that could help?

Oh, and I was using the .6 SDK but downgraded to the previos .5x version if that makes a difference. Still the same issue.

Might want to try using the EDDS Elite launcher tool. Set the Oculus and secondary launch in there before launching the game. IF that does not fix it, try uninstalling evberything OCulus related form the system and starting again.

Don't put it in portrait mode. That was what you had to do AGES ago, they've long since fixed that. Mine's in landscape - always has been

my dk2 is set to portrait mode in WINDOWS not nvcp.. it was the only way i could get it to work, but work it does. go to the set res by right clicking on yer desktop and set it there. set rift to extended mode and you should be good to go.

It might not be the issue, but I often get strange behavior with respect to multi-monitor function and the DK2 depending on which HDMI/DVI outputs I'm using on the video card. Since it seems like your settings are OK in the Nvidia tool, it might be worth swapping where your PC monitor and the DK2 are plugged into the card. I haven't looked into it, but I believe the top row is somewhat more 'primary' than the second row on my gtx970 card. I have the PC monitor and DK2 plugged into the top row outputs and an HDTV into the bottom connector, but typically unplug the HDTV when running games b/c having it connected and turned off seems to cause odd behavior.

No, I have tried all of that. When I look at the windows screen resolution, the default stance of the rift monitor shows a picture of the monitor vertical - but thats in landscape mode. When I change the rift to Portrait mode, the little monitor icon will switch to show like its landscape. But the overall issue is that I can get the settings to stay as portrait mode in both windows and nvidia, but when I load Elite up and try to switch to secondary monitor, It shows the game sideways in the headset.

I uninstalled the .6 sdk and just reinstalled the .51x sdk. No effect, but it did keep my config settings. I Downloaded that EDDS tool, Ill play around with it tonight, see what I can figure out

I had the always-sideways problem when I was using HDMI, this was solved by using the DVI adapter. According to my card manufacturer, it's an incompatible bug in BIOS on the card, no plans to fix.

Hmm...well If it makes any difference, I have the DK2 in the hdmi slot and my monitor hooked up via display port. Could that make a difference? I tried switching to a different display port for the monitor already, but cant move the rift to any other ports. Should I try switching something else or some other config? Anyone else with a titan x?

Thanks, as soon as I get home I will test this if I can

Edit: I just realized...Could this be because its HDMI 2.0 port? Could that be the issue? I have a DVI port so I will try that next

^this

Switch ports and enjoy the sweetness :)

Nope it still didnt work :( - I changed my main monitor off the display port and onto the hdmi slot, and i plugged my rift dk2 into the dvi port with the converter.

HOWEVER, I did get it to work a different way. I found the Desktop size and position Resize tool. When clicking resize, you have the ability to lock your screen settings, I was able to set my rift to portrait mode, And peaking through one of the lenses at an angle, I hit resize. I was able to actually lock it in place, LOW AND BEHOLD my resolution is now locked in the proper mode. Kind of stupid if you ask me, but hey, IT WORKS!!! lol now, hopefully this doesnt limit my resolution as i would like to try and dsr it. We shall see
