General / Off-Topic I am sick of this community

You, yeah... you.

Uninformed complaints, entitlement and strange flat earth arguments is the new world order. NMS is cherished as some sort of mesiah just because they finally started to deliver some the game they promised, marketed and charged for 2-3 years ago.

If you dont hate the game you are a "white night" apparently.

Whats wrong with you? Seriously.

Its perfectly fine to think that ED is missing things or have bugs. But its not fine to use your own wishfull thinking as some sort of fact or argument.
And its sickening to breathe the same air as those who think they are owed something from a released game with at least 10 free updates to its name, just because they payed 40 euros in 2013 thinking that spacelegs or any other pet wishfull feature was mandatory in release 1.0.

There is no air on the internet so ye cant share the same air as them quite literally...just sayin...have a nice day btw ^

Have you ever been to the world of tanks forums???

The ED community is generally one of the best on the internet. If you want to avoid all the moaning then just go to the exploration forum or Xbox forum lol

If you stay out of Dangerous Discussion it can a helpful forum. But Reddit is so much bigger, more useful.

Dangerous Discussion is just the same topics ad nauseum with the same 20 - 30 people at most. It's being like this for years.

Drop in after a Patch and get out quick [smile]

@OP Don't let the negativity get you down. Seriously. Every game out there has "has been" armchair developers who think they can do a better job yet fail to do so.

The key issues with Elite Dangerous have mainly to do with the sheer divisiveness of the community due to relative expectations that were put forth since before its release- lots of people expected "EVE in Cockpits" and what they got was player choice instead, as a small example. Then we have the absolute simulation versus the arcade game debates, realism and detail versus casual exploding pixels, etc. I could go on and on with examples- but the point is once you really investigate the complaints you'll find most of them to be purely situational or subjective.

There's just a lot of perceived "slight" going on with a lot of people who seem to think the world revolves around them- instead of coming to terms with you don't always get what you want. What really astounds me, however- is those who hang around for years complaining about the same things, not realizing that if it hasn't been changed for them- it likely never will.

It's not so difficult to find constructive debates and critique on the forums as opposed to conjecture and speculation. :) Just takes a bit of wading through all the crap-posting.

It's more setting a standard. If you refuse you look to the real best in class (no referring to daydream abstract star citizen, just real downloaded patches) it can only be an excuse for an actual substandard result. This is made worse by frontiers general attitude and company image they portray. They are not the indie dev who will jump at and build every good idea, the great majority of game features frontier dismisses the community to their judgement. This mode of operation in turn requires best in class performance on their part to hold that respect... and when it's seen to fall people are probably easy to criticise in turn.

Also bigger better faster more is a young person thing, remember? :)

Negativity is justified. Once you play the game long enough you will see all the flaws, placeholders and repitition.

Perhaps if Frontier released anything of substance this year coming with an appropriate price tag, instead of diverting attention to a dinosaur game, the situation would be different.

@OP: Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and others are all by far WORSE than these forums - at least IME.

Try to ignore the haters when they are on a roll and your life in these forums becomes in general more pleasant. Occassionally the more vocal complainers raise a valid point worth discussing so it would be unfortunate if you choose to block them.

I find it very educational.
All of it.
I particularly like it when someone really manages to trigger me.
Free entertainment! \o/

(And those 'crowbar' posts, superb!:D)

Is it not like this for every game ever? Certainly every game where I have bothered with it's official forum has always been littered with people complaining, posting 'steam stats', foretelling of the games doom and generally doing what people do. It's the same in everything. People shout about what they don't like more then they do about the things they do like.

I would not read too much into it. I doubt developers do. Or at least they probably learn to pick out the genuine useful stuff from the usual noise of crap-posters who badmouth the game as often as they can.

^ I'd be placing my bets here. ;)

There's a broad line between providing constructive critique- and straight crap-posting about not only the game, but the development staff and moderators themselves.

The "I want a refund" crowd is pretty sad, granted.

But this is not a latter of being "owed" something. I am very happy to have time to play many other games I wanted to play, but I am still saddened by the lack of development.

To use an analogy, is like buying a beautiful car only to discover that the manufacturer made is so that you can't get past the second gear. Some people will happily keep driving around at 50km/h with the engine in overdrive, because the car looks good anyway. Some people will enjoy the car at first, and then start to (justifiably) moan about removing these restrictions to reach the car's potential. Others will simply stop driving it, and look from a distance, waiting for the day when the manufacturer will finally unlock all gears.

I do sort of get where the OP is coming from.

I work closely with a software development team supporting the software they make, so I'm a middleman between the country specialists and the developers. Sometimes we get customers complaining about software features they'd like to see implemented, so we go back and say it'll take 3 weeks solid work at a cost of £18,000 to implement that feature and ask them for a good business case to do so. They then come back and say it was for one single persons benefit.

Bugs however we fix immediately.

Indicative.

Most of the community takes a short sighted view of the game imo as - if the game is restricted or shows priority bug fixing - design choice is different thing from being smack bang in the middle of the broader development.

So don't get sick about the community OP .. pity them. [up]

The thing that I despise the most about official forums, are the groups of people that are a liability for anyone looking for clear and accurate information.

A big part of the reason I'm on the forums is to read up on stuff I don't know about / might have missed — but having to dig through the piles of hyperbole and vague blanket statements ends up wasting my time.

It gets really absurd when I see someone ask a direct question and half the replies are people's own hyperbolic personal bias, (white knight or armchair critic), without actually answering the very simple question.

Strawman

Lots of substance coming this year, but because its not to your liking (or whatever) its being twisted to look like nothing of substance is coming out.
You are a whiner.

I think we'll only be able to judge that after Q4 and premium content comes out. So far it has been a good Q1 "fixes" update followed by appetizers. I'm waiting for the main course and desert before judging the overall meal.

Seems to me FD is gambling big on the Q4/premium, and I sure hope it'll pay out.

ED forums are quite nice and civil overall. Only bested by stuff like stellaris forums or ksp's.

As for wot forums : some swamps are better left alone.
