I cancelled my CV1 pre-order

I think it's managing expectations- maybe that comes with age. ;)

And with age I think considering what I came from as a youngster in terms of graphical quality, what an amazing experience VR truly is, irrespective of what consumer (or development editions according to Raptoid) units are currently on the market. At least we now have reasonable stability in software terms, and some hardware standards to begin to create a foundation of stability that earlier development VR headsets weren't prone to.

Oh, and whilst I'm hear as I'm 41 rather than 51, luckily I only suffer from a stiff neck from prelonged use, but yeah different people are going to have different attitudes to bodily tolerances. But with BigDuke6ixx responses to me earlier let alone you, I've stopped interacting frankly.

Ya I hear you. Don't let the fact that some people will irk you with their lack of tolerance stop you from being involved. Such is the way of the world. Those of us who try to engage in social intercourse as opposed to verbal masturbation are better for it. Even the nay sayers and fanboys can offer constructive advice. A little civility would afford their opinions more value however.

I cancelled my pre-order today after reading all the comments about God rays. I have upgraded my video card to a GTX980ti, improved my power supply to 850w, and added a 4*usb3 pcie card, in preparation to CV1.
I only play ED, So I've decided to wait until the issues with God rays are corrected.
I have no idea how long it will take. Maybe ED will give us contrast control, or Oculus will change the lenses in CV2.

I do not own a DK2.

I may be wrong but I think fixes to the VIVE support may come before godrays are removed........ right now vive has its issues too but that will hopefully be sorted soon.

that being said you should try and find somoene to let you try a rift (once my VR cover arrives i will let people who live near haverhill (uk not Massachusetts**) on this forum come and try it out if they like. god rays are worse in ED than in any other game i have tried.... and it still does not stop ED being the best VR experience i have had in 2 years of VR ownership.

**and yes I have fallen foul on this, turns out the landscape gardener didnt want to fly to the UK to give me a quote ;)

I think your assumption is correct. ED has confirmed they are working to resolve Vive issues regarding clarity. The godray thing being a product of the current Fresnel lenses is not likely to be fully resolved in this generation of either HMD but we may get some minor relief through software tweaks and slider controls. I hated the lense flare JJ Abrams used the first time I saw Star Trek. I forgot it was there the next 3 times, however. Like many here I am hoping for the same with ED. Most seem willing to forget them due to the immersion and sheer scale of things in VR. Given that the majority of fellow sim pilots in DCS are also smitten with the VR bug as we say in the military "confidence is high"

Nice of you to offer demos to the locals

Due to nicking my eye taking out my contacts, I had to go back to using my monitor last night. It was terrible! I kept looking to the left to see my navigation panel, and it wasn't there. Should be healed by tomorrow, though. ED is no longer a game I play, but a place I can go, thanks to the Rift.

Excellent description. ED and Oculus should both pay you royalties to quote you.

I haven't tried the CV1 yet but I've got one on order. I've tried the Vive though as a friend of mine has got one, and yes VR is just amazing, better than I was hoping. I think you could see the "Godray effect" in action but to be honest you were so overwhelmed with the whole "Just being there man!" effect that you really did not notice it. I certainly would not cancel a pre-order of one of the current HMD's just because of the odd few negatives on here. Trust me, screw comments about the resol;ution, blur, light bleed, god rays etc, none of it is a game killer by any stretch and that's just nit picking because the overall effect is just astounding.

No no, everyone should cancel their CV1 pre-order its just horrible, horrible I say! Even 1080p is better! trust me, I am an expert. Plus it would put my order higher up in the queue, but that is secondary, honest.

So true. Also far from a distraction the nose light bleed can come in useful sometimes and I will miss it when my vr cover arrives and fills it in.

Once you go vr playing in a screen is just .......... flat.

That being said godrays is one area where the vive has an advantage on the rift. Right now vr is all bout compromise and oculus have made different compromises to HTC.

Do your homework if you can try both in the games you want to play and make your choice. Both blow a monitor out of the water

Hold on a minute. Your saying the cover blocks the nose gap? That's it I am cancelling my order. If I can't sweat and peek out the gap I don't want the dam thing.
Oh the humanity!

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. I've seen Anacondas roar into the station above my head. I've watched a ringed purple gas giant zip past at just over lightspeed. All these moments, and many more to come are mine thanks to my Rift."

Yeah but, someone on the interweb got a bit sweaty in their CV1, so better cancel my order!

So... finally i have a CV1, somebody was selling it in my city for a reasonable price and i got it...

I have to say that when i put it on for first time, i noticed the improvement in the image quality, resolution and sdf, even if there is still some sdf, it's forgettable and finally i can understand and enjoy what i'm seeing after usinf for a couple pf weeks a dk2.

BUT... the god rays,,, o god and his rays, sorry but this is a REAL issue, i still don't understand what kind of quality control Oculus made here, for me is enough reason for cancelling the order, those of you that don't see them in elite... i can't understand it, i have to take out several times the device and see if my lenses are mosty or whatever, because that's exactly the effect, like if i have my normal glasses (and by the way , forguet using this thing with glasses) with a lot of moisture and see everything with halos around, vey uncomfortable. And i really hate it because in almost everything else oculus made 5 steps foward, but with the god rays, they went back another ten.

Of course if you play more clear and lighty games like war thunder, o project cars is not a problem, but with ED, is enough for me to feel dissapointed, i have to see now if adapt to this or finally i sell my device, will give me one week or ten days as a period test.

Oh boy here comes the early adopter speech for you hold on to your nut sack. The answer you will get on here is to actually throw more money at the problem, good luck.
