(I find) PvP is boring...

With the greatest respect, how is your CMDR name in game, and statistics releating to said CMDR, personally Identifiable Information encompassed by the GDPR? Unless you are careless enough to use your real-life name in game and make a point of telling everyone you meet that you are in Macclesfield there is no issue.

i could be argued that player data and activity is personal data in itself, no need to relate it to your bedroom, and the more our daily lives have to do with avatars and virtual environments then with even more reason.

after all, we equated intellectual property to physical property and that's way more far fetched. i think we'll get there.

Not sure about why you're concerned about my social media use when I'm asking about the GDPR compliance of a third party app for a computer game but okay.
Well, you are extremely concerned about the propogation of your 'personally identifiable data' so naturally the assumption is made that you'd not be so careless as to provide further data collection, with or without your consent, to any organisation.

Well at least an honest answer I guess.

I am actually asking you to explain your position on that very question. So what? What's it mean? What should we do?

You seem unable or unwilling to answer me. If that's the case, congratulations: you're the greatest lawyer ever and have done absolutely zilch.

I don't have an answer, I'm not a lawyer. Would you like to help me fund one to look into it? Do you think it's okay if an organisation is using an application which collects and stores data is in breach of GDPR? Why do you think it's my fault for asking questions about it without having the organisational clout or resources to have an appropriate legal response?

That's just you and a mate roleplaying something. That's cool and all, and if you get enjoyment out of it please have as much fun as you can. But no actual griefer cares if you 'escort' a trader in your vulture.
No actual PRO griefer, but for every pro there's a dozen non-pros. Believe me, I've run into them over and over again. These are guys are are fooled by silent running, "Where did you go?" as I sit behind them. We were lucky that the griefers attacking us were apparently not pros, nor were they in wings of four, which allowed two noobs in a Vulture and a Conda repel these griefers in actual combat.

As I said elsewhere in this thread, I warned the trader I was escorting that I make no guarantees that I can protect them. I'm well aware if a wing G5 godships show up, I'm toast (I don't high wake if I'm protecting someone, I'm there till the rebuy). But thankfully you pros are a subset of the overall player base.

And even if we had died, I would have had fun. I don't know if the trader would have, but she was willing to play in open to begin with and flew a combat-capable ship, so I have to assume so.

No, I don't have the time or energy for that.

It's hard to get worked up over it when there doesn't appear to be any actual risk of harm.

Why do you think it's my fault for asking questions about it without having the organisational clout or resources to have an appropriate legal response?

Who said anything about fault? You're the one making hay of GDPR compliance and so should expect skepticism.

I guess you don't use 'Social Media' either, then :)
Not as "me". All my social media presence is through a proxy / pen name. This is one of the reasons I don't use Discord, as I don't want to be identified by my real voice.

Did I mention that I'm in witness protection? Ooops, I probably shouldn't share that.... :p

Why should I expect scepticism for asking about legal compliance for an app is collecting personal data that doesn't have a process for individuals to even be aware of being collected, let alone consent to it? This is just a game, so I don't know why it would be necessary to create, use and encourage the use of something which - from the very best I've heard - sits heavily in a legal grey area?

I should probably say I've used EDR in the past and found it very underwhelming. Uninstalled it ages ago.

THIS WANTED GUY IS AN OUTLAW? NO WAY. Hell, I show up on there as lawful.

Far as I'm concerned a thing can be legally gray all it wants if it's ultimately meaningless. 🤷‍♂️

Yeh, that's a perfectly valid statement, it's not infallible and no major decision by any lawful group would be based solely upon it. In fact in the case you describe it would definitely get you the benefit of the doubt, if we EDR a commander and see that he's wanted, but not a consistent outlaw (EDR karma=ambiguous or lawful), then we (As in we specifically,GARD) usually won't bother intercepting them until they're more 'notorious', we don't want to gank new outlaws after all, we want them to comem and be future content. :devilish: Phisto however would be instantly recognised so no issue there. ;)

Christ, it's all automated? I find it a bit scary. Does it record IP addresses, too?
lol, you think FD gives away IP addresses on it's third party API? I bloody hope not!! :D Seriously, it's safe as houses. The discord bot carries some risks, as it can scrape any channel it can read, but that is 100% made clear in the instructions and by the developer when he allows a discord manager to use it, which as I say is very few discords right now. If a discord manager gives ANY bot he didn't design or at least understand fundamentally, free run over his discord, he's an idiot. :D
