I had fun. In Open. Again..

Now, what would have been the difference to Solo Mode?
Jay, nothing „bad“ happened in Open, but at the same time it was just like Solo from what you wrote.
The problem with Open Mode is not that „something bad“ could happen or that „something bad“ happens all the time. The problem is that there is nothing that makes Open Mode interesting beside „something bad“ could happen, maybe, there is a tiny chance…
In short it‘s pointless to the point that it hurts.

I actually enjoyed the potential dangers, made the game more ejoyable for me at that point, a little risk etc.

You say you've been in Open and you haven't been ganked to death all the time though you met other players?!? Quite the feat!
Sarcasm aside, rumours of Open Play being a massive gankfest are widely exaggerated. Happens sometimes, but that's really all. The number of friendly encounters overweights the hostile ones by far.
I have been blown up a few times, its part of thegame so exepted it and and moved on.

Sorry I'm playing the game wrong OP... :p

Maybe if there was more to it than the meta silliness and forum bravado I'd be convinced otherwise. To each their own, but I'm just looking and hoping for something a little different than that from this game.

Disclaimer: I played in Open excursively for the first year or so. The Engineers was the beginning of the end of my illusion that this game would be something beyond what it has turned out to be.

Clearly, you are mistaken, cmdr, because everyone knows that Open is terrible and full of gankers, griefers, murder hobos, and seal clubbers.

I'm not sure I'd use the word 'full' given the size of the ED map :) But Open is where they are, yes. Open has everything.

tbh I assume if the usual suspects aren't around they are on their way to Beagle Point.

Hey all,

I tried mining last night, Void Opals or something. Forgot I was in open, then remembered, I had loads of fun. I didnt get ganked or experience the dreaded Drag Munintions.I saw a couple of Cmdrs, not an 07 at all. Carried on didnt earn much, but was learning the mining things. Much fun was had, especially when trying to find the best price for the 25 opals i had eventually got. Nice explosions tho. :)

Fly safe in the black you crazy kids :D

Had very similar experience in a couple of different private groups. Elite is fun no matter what mode you play in as long as you can play the way you wish to play. It is my precious leisure time. Never feel like I am missing out if not playing in open. Bit of a troll post to be honest.

I'm on my way to Beagle Point. Six of one, a half dozen of the other... ;)

Cheers.

One of the reasons I play in open is that most of the friends I've made in the game play in open (duh, it's where I met most of them :D) and we can see where each other is on the galaxy map. A lot of my friends are explorers (like yourself WR3ND) and I explore in Open too.

Sadly one of the consequences of DG2 is that most of my explorer friends are now (or at least are currently) playing in private groups (I assume Fleetcomm, I'm not a member) so that benefit of Open is lost.

However with the new Social section in the game menu I can now see where friends who are currently in-game are even if they are playing in solo or a group, so swings & roundabouts.
