I look forward to the first of these...

Dear FD,

I recently just purchased your game and, looking to get a head-start into (mining? AX? whatever?), I purchased one of your pre-built ships from the store. I'd googled around and found a popular location to go use the ship... only to be ganked by some other (player/interceptor/whatever). As a new player, I didn't have many credits to my name and couldn't afford the rebuy, so I've now lost the ship!

Is there any way to get my ship back, or get a refund on this purchase? It's pretty sucky to buy one of these ships only to lose it straight away!

Regards,
CMDR Flew-without-rebuy

I like things to be fair. Things not being fair upsets me.

Let's say this is World Of Warcraft (stay with me here).
You have Player A and Player B.
Player A has developed their character up many levels and has some decent gear.
Player B got their gear from the store.
Player A and Player B engage in a PvP fight, and if Player A loses, it's going to cost them X amount of gold to get their gear back.
If Player B loses, they get their gear back for free because they got it from the store.

Now, instead of it being World Of Warcraft, it's Elite.
Please do tell me how that is fair.

PvP is optional in ED, you know this...
If one doesn't want to assume the risk of losing something due to player action, there are 2 modes where it is entirely negated.

Does this rank as a straw man? A term beloved by some forum members...

PvP is even more optional in WoW.
In Elite if you are in Open people can attack you with no opt-in option. To avoid it you have to play in Solo mode.
In WoW, you have to agree to a PvP battle.

But it being optional is not my point. The rebuy not being fair is my point.

The only time it is fair, is if two players fight to the death in ships they bought off of the store, and both have free rebuy.
One having free rebuy and the other not having free rebuy IS NOT FAIR.

Are Frontier going to put all the ships bought from the store in their own little instance where they only come across other ships also bought from the store?

Why am I the only one that has an issue with this? How can you all think this ok and acceptable?

Yeah, some forum members are upset that they won't be able to ruin other player's days because of this, which amuses me a lot.
Once a player is established rebuy cost is a minor inconvenience, but for a beginner it isn't...

Well, if it bothers someone that much, they just spend their Arx and buy one too, surely?

I'm not trying to ruin other player's fun. If I was I'd buy a ship from the store, have 0cr rebuy and gank newbies.

And two wrongs don't make a right, as the saying goes. Selling ships on the store for ARX is wrong, and having to buy one just to make things fair, is also wrong.

Have you seen the 2 ships listed, there not capable of PVP, there not even that capable of what there being sold as.
Some of the best players are gankers. Yes really. They know the mechanics of the game, how to do things the average player can't and they are very very good at it.

I don't doubt for one moment a ganker could take a stock ship from the store and do a lot more than a brand new player who's never played Elite before.

Here is wisdom!

The only way one of the pre-built ships is going to beat another PvP player is if that player is utterly incompetent, something that some people are finding hard to grasp.
So why do you seem to be assuming that all PvP'ers are legendary experienced pilots flying meta ships? What about people learning and first getting into PvP? It's also clear that these two are just the first of a series of ships focused on the various play options available in the game, one of those play options is ship based combat so surely there will be purchasable combat focused ships too soon.

We were given a Courier and a Vulture as Christmas presents a couple of years back, they have zero rebuy....
So, if my Vulture kills another player's ship, that must be unfair also?
I didn't get a courier and a vulture. This is the first I'm hearing of this.
And if they have 0cr rebuy, no that is also NOT FAIR.

FCOL, am I talking to the wall?
