I love E:D But really?

Ultimately arx is trading one form of time (work/ income) for another form of time (in game). This will always create a split between purists and realists.

Wasn't an insult,
Even if it was, it was mild enough to either
  • Not felt to be worth reporting
  • Reported and discounted as harmless
  • Be held in stock for a reporting flurry...
If you didn't get a Mod communication over it, it wasn't a good insult, so worry not. (I'm certain that there is at least 1 forum member that awaits reading my posts with their cursor ovcer the report button quite often 🤣 )

It’s a slippery slope for sure or it can be. But personally i’ve been enjoying the hell out of the game. More than anything in years.

In the couple of months i’ve played so far i have had so much fun that i decided to sell some ships i’ve had in SC and funneled them into the ARX store instead.
The T9 jump starter allowed me to earn a ton of credits and i got my fleet carrier around 2 weeks in.

But i still had to haul over 150k t of commodities for those credits. I’m now 350 hours in and it’s only now i have enough engineers unlocked to be able to build viable pvp loadouts.
The fleet carrier was a massive qol for me, but nothing I couldn’t live without.
The real game is still locked behind engineers, reputation and materials.
The games overall balance is still intact.

However if they do start to sell unlockable engineers and material packs or even worse permanent exclusive arx ships. We can really talk about p2w. I don’t think hauling more commodities to influence the BGS is that relevant. It means little to other players and the system is so complicated a newbie would never be able to be efficient in a pre bought T9 or Panther when that arrives.

And on a side note CIG never discounts ships beyond the starter packages and 12000 ARX is still cheaper than any ship you can get in that game, cheapest ship is 20$ and if you’re in a country with 25% VAT it’s suddenly 25$ aka Aurora or Mustang Alpha, those ships are trash in game in comparison to the Cobra Mk V, that thing was a good deal.

I always call that P2NP - "Pay to not play". A lot of games seem to go in for it but I can't see the point. :)

The rest isn't nearly as important to me as the health of the game's development. And, for that, they need money. And for that, we need reason to part with it.
Exactly. The only thing I "won" was to help keep the development going on not only the game I love to play, but the only one I'm actively playing.

But don't worry, I don't resent the fact that others who refuse to buy but are actively playing (and can afford to part with some spare cash) are playing off my money. It's all good.

Well Panther Clipper launching for Arx would be a giant finger to anyone who grinded the imperial rep for their Gutamaya for the cargo space. It's very good for much else.

You really cannot say mission board flipping/courier mission spam is good gameplay you're missing out on by paying Arx lol.

I grinded rep for the Cutter and believe me, I will be just fine if they release the Panther Clipper for ARX. It's not a giant finger to me or anyone else. The Cutter due to it's massive shields, boost speed, and sexiness will still have a place in our fleets.

Your argument doesn't hold water because It's going to happen if you add a larger ship whether you charge Arx or not. Any larger ship will negate the imperial and federal progression and limit it to simply a grind for system permits.

By the same token, it can be said that each update to engineering negated the previous gameplay associated with gathering mats. Did you get upset about that?

Having grinded for both, I really don't care.

But I do think it would be a good idea for FDev to revisit the imperial and federal progression to make it more meaningful, but that is a topic deserves its own thread.

Getting both Cutter & Corvette took me around 4 years...
I don't think I could claim grind on them 🤣
The Corvette took me a few months running hauling missions in an Anaconda... But the "grind" started from when I got the FAS, after that it was a steady diet of hauling. Probably could have done it quicker if I had understood the rules better. I don't remember working tk get the FAS but she was my first real love in the game who gave as much as she took. I disliked the Anaconda, but she was useful.
(Isn't "grind" just actually playing any game, these days? It seems to be a very popular activity on various games fora)
I actually enjoy the grind as it gives me purpose, just have to be careful that you don't let it consume you.

When it comes to whether I purchase a ship or not, it doesn't affect my play because you don't short change the gameplay by purchasing it.

The potential PC will actually change that because of the very real probability that it require less trips to get a given work load done. But if I was worried about that I wouldn't use a T-9 for colonisation but stick to a T-6... I mean, why short change my joy! 🤣🤣🤣

To be fair if you no life the grind the cutter is doable in 8 hours of playing and the corvette around 12 hours. That’s what it took for me from no rank > r12

I did them back to back post colonization, so no easy data courier missions for me 😅
I finished up my imp rank to get the Cutter post colonisation running courier missions... Had no trouble finding them. Bounce around a half dozen systems for a couple of sessions, no issues at all with the mandy.

I was just bimballing around the systems doing stuff and made most of mine without realising, and when I started for real I had 4-5 ranks already but just needed the rank up missions . But that was waaaay back ...
That basically sums up my ranking progress. I kept getting offered "Navy combat" etc. missions, so ignored them, not knowing what they were.
When a Courier job came up to a system I was hauling to, I took it, then discovered, in fairly short order, I had a heap of ranks already stacked up and waiting.

Yup i did the same, had to build up a chain in the nearby systems, Ngalinn still works.

I did my corvette grind in sol with donations and source and return, that was a much worse grind of a grind personally.
