Ships I need your help building an AX Ship and go for the goids

Hello All,

i´m new at the forum, but not new at the game. Due to the awesome console to PC transfer i found my motivation again to play ED. The graphics and loading times are something different on a pc compared to an old xbox one, it´s like playing a new game :). But now back to my main reason:

The story seems to get awesome and i want to join into fighting goids. Since i´ve only hunted some scouts back in the days with my FDL, i´m a beginner in this.

I have following ships:
  • An engineered Fer-De-Lance
  • An engineered Imperial Clipper
  • A fully engineered Corvette
  • A fully engineered Imperial Clipper with Guardian Tech

Right now i try to put the Vette and Clipper into coriolis to show it to you, but what is the best ship to use against goids? And what should i equip?

its not quite finished. youll notice that i go for modified shard cannons. you CANNOT fire them repeatedly on this build without heatsinks saying that they rip the crap out of cyclops, they can take down a scout in 2 -3 shots. biggest disadvantage is a fairly long reload time after five shots. there is a big splash effect so no need to be pinpoint accurate
heating wise it seems to run between 15-18 degrees. i did see 13 degrees when i turned off life support. the life support is engineered for 25 minutes.
powerwise its slightly over-budget. cargo scoop is off. afm is off too until i need it
speedwise its faster than my krait 2 but not as fast as my mamba, but 550 ish well fast enough to drive out of trouble.
fsd should kick in around 2.5 seconds but with only a jump range of around 8-9 neeed to make sure that you do have somewhere to jump to.
i've only just started hunting goids myself, anybody got any constructive advice i'll take that.
 
I don't see the shard cannons working out. Carry one of them with you for interceptor swarms, but that's about it.

If you're going after scouts, go with AX cannons. If you're going after scouts and interceptors then the Gauss Cannons are the way to go. You can take them out very quickly with those. I'm also not a fan of the Phantom for combat. You just give up too much in internal options vs the Mk II or the Chieftain or Challenger.

My two cents.

i certainly agree that if scouts is what you want, and lets be honest its a damn good way of doing the elite ranking grind then ax multi is the way but i find i'm not a great shot with the gauss cannons. if you can get your hits in, first class amount of damage but i do like the shards

Four shrapnel cannons due to the high impact force allow to destroy the Cyclops in 10-15 seconds, in one go. You don't even have to use premium ammo.

not really a good comparison with that mk10 and the phantom....i see laser weapons firing off, also the phantom wouldnt stand the lightning attack like the larger ship but as to the use of the shards. yep.
 
And his odds of firing fast enough to take on scouts are what? 5 to 1 against? Higher?

Well, then perhaps you'd read what the guy said:
Right now i go with 3 gauss cannons, 2 remote flaklaunchers and 2 beamlasers with thermal vent for the heat and scouts.
So he's clearly going to be fighting scouts, which those slow, inaccurate, 5 shot cannons will be useless against, hence my advice against carrying a ship full of them with no other weapons.
 
honestly, with some nice aiming i´m smashing the scouts also with the gauss cannon. 1-2 shoots and their gone. And no, the cutter is not a sitting duck. i earned 500mil last CG, so it cant be that bad
 
Just a quick update. I built a slightly modified version of the shielded Krait MK II. I went to Asterope and tried it out yesterday. It was my first time trying to kill Thargoid scouts and the ship exceeded my expectations. I was able to kill groups of 4 scouts without too much difficulty and have started collecting the mats the destroyed scouts drop. I want to thank all the CMDRs who offered advice and answered my questions.

I fly in the nearby hip1183 system. Look for my carrier haven. If you'd like to wing we can do that.
 
Only one way to find out I guess. And when it comes down to it once the heart is exposed damage is damage whether it be from ax multicannons or shard guns. At the moment I'm practicing using flak cannons against thargon swarm
 
Give me some time to build a Chieftain with gauss cannons and I'll get back to you. It may take me a few weeks. My wife is having surgery soon.
 
dont worry about building a new one.... fly the one you got for a bit , see what works what doesnt. hell i got 5 ax ships and i'm not overly happy with any of em lol

Should I swap out my 4 ax cannons for 4 gauss cannons and try my hand with an Interceptor?
 
I prefer modified shard cannons. I'm a terrible shot! Get yourself watching YouTube clips for training so you know what's coming. If you can fly with other cmdrs that's good. Expect visits to the rebuy screen. But then.... Each cyclops down thats 8 million. Knock over a basilisk that's 25 mill. If you want to raise combat rank knock over scouts too.
 
This thread allowed me to put a foot in scout hunting with a well enginereed MKII.

After some practicing, i will replace my AX-MC with Guardian Gauss and practice aiming on scouts.
Maybe give a try to a Alliance ship.
Alliance Chieftain. It is THE ship for killing Thargoids.
Could you please give a build sample or a link to inspiration ?
