I think I should start my own Squadron.

Now all i can think of is "Police Academy".

I do hope you have not got a goldfish, or a lectern.......

XD

Neither. :)

Name is still undergoing revision, but you get the idea. I'm making this Squadron specifically for new players.

I'll be moving all my assets to a starter system, and I'm hoping that a Cobra won't be seen as too imidating in supercruise, so I can interact quite peacefully with the new guys, and get them started on their space trading careers.

With the removal of board flipping, I feel it's now even more important for novitiates to learn how to make money with their own credits.

I started a squadron in game just to see if it works. I created a public statement on it so players would feel invited and geared it towards older players. So far so good. My goal is to see if I can recruit and operate this totally in game. Communication, recruiting and organizing without using external assets such as inara or discord.

So far nothing. The Squadron search to totally broke, you can not select tags as they are randomly selected except for the newest squadron, that seem to be be static. To change search tags you need to exit and reenter squads until you get the tags you want. Search squadrons only work for the squad tag you selected when you made the name. If you know them then you can search for that but that is only useful if you already know the squad you want to join.

Squadrons still need a lot of work and while I originally thought the ability to join more than 1 squad was bad I now think it would be very useful. Maybe a Primary squad and several secondary squads so you could still join others for special events.

My 2 cents and YMMV. Good luck Un1corn and if you need anything, message me and I will help in whatever way I can short of joining your squad.

I see this as a noble thing to help newcomers. I wish you all the good fortune for doing this. If the Cobra does end up being too intimidating then maybe pick up an Adder for training purposes. It's a cute ugly puppy ship that nobody should have cause to fear.

Aye. I care about the longevity of the game, and I also enjoy Open mode.

Now in a galaxy filled with highly skilled killers, the prospect of logging into Open in a Sidewinder or Hauler... Or even the Lakon Types. It's understandable for anyone to have doubts.

Now I'm not good at much in this game, but what I do know I can do, is running an effective cargo/passenger/mining ship that needs no offensive weapons.

I've never deployed weapons on a CMDR pirate, but I've also never been destroyed by one whilst flying a trade-spec' vessel. I have died in combat-spec' PvP. There is a good reason my rank is Novice.

For me, PvP, an inherent part of Open, is all about survival, not glory. I'm no Top Gun, and don't claim it either. What I would like to share is the skill of evasion. To be the fox, not the hound.

If I can turn out a few space traders who can starve pirates of cargo, mission accomplished.

So this is by no means meant to be negative, and it clearly shows my ignorance on the matter, but...are all of you willing to help new players? Or would that potentially become an issue?

Time will tell, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The most important thing is not who leads it, the most important thing is who is following you.

You can be the best leader ever, have the most knowledge about how to build up and maintain a squad, ultimately, it's your pilots that make the squad. if you find people who you can trust and who trust you, you can do whatever you want.

Not so long ago I build up the 44th with a friend, it was really hard at first since getting people to join was everything but easy...

But now, after a bit more than 6 months, we are around 30 pilots, some are considered the core of the squad, some are logging from time to time, but ultimately, we are all having a great time, and we are growing :D

I wish you good luck and that you find the right people for your squad. If you need help or advice, hit me up in game o7

Well it's done.

Gonna' start editing everything properly tomorrow. I forgot my pills this morning and I can't be bothered to do heavy writing.

Wouldn't be able to do anything with it tonight anyway as Open keeps crashing on me.

But the Alioth Space Trading Academy [ASTA], has been founded.

It's a hybrid roleplay/mentor group, mixing Alliance with trade tips. Alliance chosen because Asellus Primus is deep in Alliance space.

That and I like the Alliance. lol

Excellent and if you need a proof reader for your writings I'm available. I promise I won't Americanize it... hahaha

Because I'm so radical, the faction my Squadron is signed up with is NOT a player faction. How KEWL is that?

Officially the Academy flies the flag of the Alioth Independants, but my recruitment operations are going to see me operating around Asellus Primus.

Good Luck mate.

I've been part of many various player urn organisiations over the decades of gaming and I will say one simply thing that will make life so much easier.... Less rules for your group the more people will have fun and the less 'work' you have to do running the show. :)

And don't be afraid to kick people if they play up!

I started my own squadron... another one of those "squadrons of one". Just me and my boats and I'm working on my Discord channel. So far it's just in Inara but I'll eventually make it official and set it up it in game. Wouldn't mind it being just big enough to make it a private playing group but that's wayyyy in the future. I think the hardest part is coming up with a comfortable name for it.

LOL! No. Coming up with the name for the guild/squadron is zillion lightyears faaaaaaaaar away from it being the hardest part buddy! :p

Three pages, and no-one has suggested yet that everyone should start their own squadron?

At the very least, it would be an interesting test of Frontier's determination to stick to the decision that no-one should be a member of more than one squadron.
