I was breaking the #1 rule while blowing up asteroids and almost lost my ship

So last night like an idiot I was flying without a rebuy because I’m an idiot but I wanted to apparently get a PHD in idiocy by testing the “damage buffer” of the deep core explosion. I didn’t do anything silly like actually document distances I just eye balled it but I got closer and closer to the blasts and i did manage to get one piece of data and that is that there is definitely a “zone” because I went from full hull to 8% Hull. I almost lost my ship but at least I know that there is in fact a zone where you take damage and don’t die immediately.

I’m not sure if anyone else has tested any actual ranges and has gathered enough intel to determine a no closer than X range but in order to successfully gather than data would require actually losing a ship. So for all you billionaires out there with a taste for the scientific method, please let me know about your findings! Jebidiah Kermin wants to know. Fly safe Kerbins!

Only done a handful of seismic charge detonations so far, but seems the damage zone is > 1km, so I have been retreating back 1.5km from the blast to be sure and not seeing any noticeable shield damage from that range.

YouTubers aren't helping. They fly within touching distance with there max engineered ships, then are surprised when they take damage.

You are blowing up an asteroid! Of course it's going to be a big explosion! Then average Joe tries it in a lightly or none engineered ship, and gets blown to pieces...

Just, think, ok, that's all I'm asking. We were given these things called brains, use them!
