Discussion ICARUS Terminal (Pre-Release)

I can't answer that question but for me I'm now solidly using EDCopilot and there's another app that builds on it called EDCopter which allows access to most EDCopilot features froma browser. Search on Discord for EDCopilot if you want have a go with the beta. The web front end is easier to choose which buttons you want, some choices on styles, size, colour and location etc. There's still some enhancements I'm hopeful of in how EDCopter works with EDCopilot, but it's a great combination and works really well from my iPad

Has development on this now stopped?

I've not stopped work on it but for the last couple of years I've been focused more on Ardent Insight (ardent-insight.com) because I wanted to add features to ICARUS that I wasn't able to because there wasn't a public API that supported them, so I had to go and build something to collect the data from EDDN (Ardent Collector) and then an API on top of that (Ardent API) and add the ability to sign in to it to support some of the features I want to be able to add (Ardent Auth).

I've actually copied a few of the features across from ICARUS into Ardent, for example the system list view has been ported across - and, while doing that, improved the logic for working out what stations are orbiting what bodies (because that data is missing from the journal) and would like to surface that same improved functionality back into ICARUS.

I'm not sure what I will do next exactly... (1) I could port more features into Ardent, things like engineering and system map views, route plotting, cargo management, etc (which, because the Ardent tools supports sign in can also now support Fleet Carrier and Construction activity) as well as things like UI customization - and expand into features like Power Play or (2) go back and port features into ICARUS and address some of the known issues and gaps in functionality.

I suspect the future will look more like porting ICARUS features into Ardent; mostly because it's MUCH quicker to do feature development in Ardent than ICARUS because there is a bunch of work to do on ICARUS if I want to go back to it; but I do still really like the idea of something that is fully local and only optionally uses 3rd party APIs to enrich the experience.

I was thinking... if it hasn't been mentioned already, it'd be nice to an Icarus Terminal for on-foot activities. But, then again, that's probably a ton of work! :D

EDIT:

You could have things like shields or/off/level, health level, night vision on/off, weapon/tool name and stowed status, heading and/or coordinates, planetary temperature, exobiological and/or geological proximity... probably other stuff I haven't thought of.

Another observation: when you use the "pin" option (top right in the window), you can't alt-tab to anther app or select another app from the Windows taskbar. I like the full-size immersion but it would be nice to have those options still available.

ICARUS Terminal broke last week after a change to the EDSM API - that seems to have been a measure put in place to manage bot traffic.

Because ICARUS Terminal depends heavily on it, it effectively broke the entire app.

Bohdan Tkachenko figured out the cause and very helpfully raised a patch!

A update with this fix in it has now been released and it's working again.

This same fix was deployed to Ardent Insight to resolve the issue there too.

After an extended hiatus - in part to go build Ardent Insight for a while - hopefully this is the first of many other updates to come!

IN OTHER NEWS... someone has apparently hacked in working touch screen controls into ICARUS Terminal o.O

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/1sem8i1/i_am_noob_so_i_added_keybinding_touch_controls_to/

I tried to do this previously and had it reading from the game key bind file and working out of the box for basic alphanumeric keys, but had problems getting it working well for special keys (HOME, DEL, F1 etc) and keys used with modifiers (SHIFT, CRTL, etc).

If the OP is willing to share this code and a PR it should be able to make it into a future release of ICARUS Terminal.

If they want to do it as a separate app I'm also happy to help there, should they need or want any help with that.
